GWS recruiter Steven Silvagni might have been red faced at the AA Awards when he incorrectly read out the names of Robert Harvey instead of Robert Murphy and Sam Reid instead of his brother Ben but there was a sense of shock at Giants HQ yesterday when someone found one of SOS' recruiting dossiers floating in the Paramatta River. The confidential file marked "Tom Scully' contained photos of Jack Trengove giving credence to the belief that the recruiting staff had confused the two young Demons and offered the wrong player the big bucks. The mystery of why a grinning Kevin Sheedy has been been greeting the youngster with the words "g'day Jack" at training seems to have also been solved.

There's really not all that much to gloat about when it comes to Scully. It is a sad state of affairs that is a result of the AFL's crap policy. But no one can honestly believe that in A world without cap money constraints etc that we're better off without Scully. Let's boo him and hurl abuse when we play them but gloat about losing him (this is no McLean or TJ. Scenario)? Seems like a defense mechanism, you'd probably be announcing how great and loyal the future gun is if he stayed. A sad sad situation for the MFC and the football world. Now let's get over it, lots of positives to focus on moving to 2012.

not a sad situation for MFC but a sad situation for the AFL who could let this stuff happen. I was [censored] off at first but further away it is I've don't care that much, I think he is overrated and we get two picks for him.

GWS got the right man, because very Victorian newspaper has been giving them press over the past month. Herald Sun may as well be called the "GWS Sun" and the age "The GWS"

In terms of playing ability we will never know who will be better out of Sculls V Trenners until the end of their days. Make no mistake, they are neck and neck right now but both have much to improve on. In terms of Captaincy potential at our club I think Trenners is better suited.

Jack, I keep telling you, sarcasm isn't understood here by most.

I am not for Tom leaving, however I am glad he did not pay overs for him. A player like Tom is arguably unreplaceable but it also had the ability to completely ruin everything we'd planned for.

I will miss Tom, and god darn it I hope he never lives up to his potential at GWS, but with the money it was suggested we offered him, my personal and only my view is I'm glad he took it.

I don't think so Jack!

For a start, Scully's a left-footer, and Jack kicks with his right. I think they would have spotted that.

Sheesh!!!!!

Time to move on. Those trapped in teh past are condemened to relive it over and over again.

Sorry W J ..the rest of the Club are making the efffor tot move on... maybe we all do

Yes, the world moves on. I would rather have lost Scully than paid way overs for him, which is the position we were in due to the system.

Now, call it defensive, evil, fatalistic or whatever, but I hope his knee is good enough to have a happy life, but not good enough to ever become half the footballer the 2 draft picks we get will be.

I was wondering the same myself Jack.

But i think it was a bigger stuff up than that...

Knowing they had 6 million to offer, Silvagni got Tom Scully and Chris Judd mixed up. They congratulated Tom on the birth of young Oscar when the contract was signed and it was only at that moment when everything was set in stone that they realised the stuff up.

Confusion reins.................

Absolutely!

For what he contributed to the rich history of the MFC, it's as though he was never even there!

But Sheeds was facing him, so to him, it looked like the right.

Nah, Sheedy has got eyes in the back of his head, so right is right and left is left..............

I liken the Tom Scully situation to being on Deal or No Deal and having the $200,000 and 50c case left. You can take the easy option and walk away with about $100,000, even though you really wanted to nab the $200k. The alternative is going for the $200,000 but being left with the monkey (50c), which is just painful.

In the end, no deal was the best option.

Yep- And when we gain the recruits from the exchange for Scully- well, we can say--up you...

Did GWS get the wrong man - absolutely - for $2M in the first year I would have gone for two weeks @$77K and called the whole thing square.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
