No. It's a sign of weakness.

You have to celebrate the small wins.

Even if they are par for the course for strong clubs who always keep the players they want to keep.

I coined the MFCSS term for a similar reason (low bar of expectation, celebrating mediocrity, fearing the worst, etc), but there is nothing wrong with celebrating the re-signing of a 19 year old gun.

They are rather desired, and difficult to re-sign...

The unbridled joy is a little embarrassing. Sure it's good news, but why would you all expect anything less ?

It's time for our supporters to get a little bit of steely resolve and start expecting that players want to remain at this club.

I know what you're getting at, but for a player who has been consistent this year and leading by example. One that is in his 2nd year of his 3 year contract, who then signs for another 3 years on top until the end of 2015....has to be good news...and just a little unexpected with still a year to run of his current contract.

Yes, we expect players to remain. But not many would have envisaged this "statement".

I don't think there is anything wrong with this. I reckon a stronger sign of weakness is becoming hysterical in the tough times

Great news especially the 4-year extension of Trengove who is one of the most impressive all-round young players I've seen come into the club. No doubt he could have held off talks and bumped his price up through external offers and improvements on the field, but committing now is testament to the guy's character!

Perfect timing for the announcements too.

Not all doom and gloom at MFC.

Great news and JT is quality for re-signing a year out and saving us all from further GWS speculation next year... Be interesting to hear him and TS discuss their various decisions...

If I celebrate with a glass of nails, is that OK?

It's great news, especially since we are now certainly going to avoid a "Trengove to GWS" thread next season. Phew!

Glass of nails? Have to be Liquid Nails, mixed with turps, that should do it Jaded.

Tend to agree.

I'm guessing that you & I are the only 2 that voted no.

It didn't make my week because I flat out expected it.

Although, I flat out expect Scully to re-sign once the season concludes.

We shall see.

You expected Trengove to sign for another four years when he still had a full season to run on his old contract? Wow e, that's impressive. How about this week's lotto numbers?

This is a massive vote of confidence from two kids who are obviously very happy being here. I don't expect that to warm the hearts of those whose hearts are long cold and dead (and to be truthful it's worth a smirk for me and not much more), but it'd be nice if those people didn't feel the need to whizz on the parade of the people who enjoyed this news.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
