• Petterd cleared:

• Scully offered $900 fine for ump contact: and

• Jake King offered 1 week for the Tigers

No Jake king would be a bonus...he has been ok this year.

Just because Trenners got rubbed out doesn't mean these tackle suspensions sit well with me.

It's a contact sport, tackling as hard as you can used to be a highlight. Brisbane won 3 flags doing it ffs, and it was a joy to watch.

I'm so sick of this stupid Umpire contact bull. Really if its all unintentional then who cares. It should only be in place for matters of hostillity

Usually I think that. But when you have 100kg AFL players running full tilt and 60kg guys backing back in a 360 degree you have to make sure to minimise accidents. The AFL do that by using the fines as a deterrent. Otherwise the umps would probably cop some injuries, and as bad as they are, I've come to a realisation that we can't afford some of the good ones getting hurt because there aren't many off them.

It's like how most of us drive somewhere around the speed limit to avoid getting a fine, which therefore minimises the number of accidents.

No, they seem to be very selective about who they suspend and who they let off. Corey is very lucky, though it seems to depend on the consequences rather than the care taken by the tackler. And it confirms my suspicion that the main reason JT got 3 weeks was the overcooked report from Adelaide's doctor.

Though Kosi's suspension did clear up one thing. Some journos were of the opinion that one reason Trengrove's penalty was so harsh was because Dangermouse didn't have the ball when he hit the ground. Well, Duncan certainly had the ball.

Corey got off.

Actually he didn't. Negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points) got him 125 points and a one-match sanction, reduced to 93.75 points and a reprimand for an early plea.

Clearly there is a vendetta against Melbourne draftees from 2009. When i saw Tom avoiding an umpire before handing it off for a goal in the first (was that when they claimed the contact took place?) i thought good thing it wasn't Trengove, the umpire would have ran into him.... but they got him anyway

Surely the maggots also have some duty of care to avoid putting themselves in the line of fire - some sort of mutual obligation.

I am sure if for example Chri$ Judd made contact it would be deemed to be caused by the umpire and he would be offered an apology, and 3 bonus Charlie votes!

I would pay 900$ to make negligible contact with an umpire

HA Ha Ha.....i nearly broke my teacup....

I was sick of it the moment it was introduced. Now, as then, I ask the same question. "How can they officiate the game effectively if they are not aware of what is going on around them?" They say that it is too much to expect the umpires to know that there are players behind them, but if that is the case they obviously can't adjudicate the game to an acceptable standard. Furthermore, I can recall at least one incident which proves that Umpires can be aware of players behind them. Anyone else remember the Ump falling flat just as Tony Lockett ran through where he was standing? One of the classic moments of AFL, and sadly never to be seen again with this idiotic rule.

No it is 100% the responsibility of the players. Impresa have ti run into the best position to view the play, and players have to be aware. Especially at bounces when three umpire gives an indication of where they'll be running.

My thoughts precisely. Stepping onto the AFL ground puts yourself at potential risk. If you have the ball then you have to expect contact and if it comes and you get injured bad luck. Trengove getting rubbed out makes me want to see others go too so that we are not the only ones copping it but for the good of the game you don't want to see these suspensions. It's like when we get a soft free for hands in the back, deliberate or 50m penalty against us. You cry ot for every contest after that wanting a free but deep down you never want to see these paid for the good of the game.

On a slightly alternate yet related topic; did Hurley not get cited for his forearm to the back of the head of some North loser? Would've thought it would be looked at at the very least and was probably worth a week or two. Didn't see a replay though so the North player could very well have down a Rawlings and played dead.

The week given to Kyle Hardingham is potentially the worst decision I have seen.

AGreed. The MRP probably confused the guernsey with Melbourne.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
