changes for next week

Martin should come in, as I think that Jamar could use the support of a bigger backup ruckman and one of them will be resting in the forward line. One of Bate and Dunn will need to make way for him. Dunn was marginally better all round including helping out in the ruck, but about the same as Bate up forward, so I could see either of them being dropped for Martin. I'd like to see Bate given more than one game to see where he is at, so Dunn gets dropped after a few average games.

Bate is more physical than Dunn, using his body to shift opponents around the ball. IMO this helps the likes of young jack, and petterd to perform thier roles better. Dunn is not physical enough. Doesn't play Big enough. More like a flanker, where as Bate plays more like a small key position leadup player.

I think Bater suits our style better forward, than Dunn. Dunn's better around the Mid zone, occaisionally pushing forward.

Bates bulk was important today.

Warnock was good but on another day could have easily given away another 4-5 frees. So if Rivers is fit i think he should come in for warnock. Bate stays for one more, presented well enough and will take a decent defender, plus he tackled really well which our forward line has been lacking in. Also give Jamar one more week by himself, with help from Dunn, and then bring back support for the saints game.

Tippet got goals from free kicks, not his own but the pass to him was a free kick kicking into the 50, i thought warnock did his job

I thought Warnock was embarrassing at times today. He did his job, but was certainly the weak link in our defence. He just holds on every week. Something I've noted others do when they're out of form. Perhaps if he can string some consistent games together, he'll begin to position himself better in contests and use his big body. In short, I think his game today has been overrated. He should play next week though.

Bate was poor. I'd like to bring in someone as a second ruck and would consider Newton, who was our emergency today.

Joel MacDonald is a like-for-like replacement for Grimes if we want to replace Grimes the defender, but we might want to rejig our side and bring in a different type of player.

Weird logic, this, leading to a preposterous conclusion. The better player to be dropped, just so the worse may 'prove himself'? Is this team trying to win football matches? May I humbly suggest that if Dunn has not had a great year, Bate has had an even less great year, and continued in this fashion today?

May I humbly suggest that we got spanked at Etihad last year because we couldn't generate any drive from our backline, moving the ball far too slowly when we tried to switch play? (It's a rhetorical question, but feel free to comment on the substance).

IN: Fitzpatrick, MacDonald, Rivers (if fit)

OUT: Grimes (inj), Bate (unlucky), Warnock (if Rivers fit)

Jamar certainly needs more form of support other then Dunn and I think it's the perfect time to bring in Fitzpatrick for this role. Fitzpartick's a forward who is more then big enough to help out in the ruck and can even play back if needed, he's also extremely mobile for a big man. Fitzpatrick can play Dunn's role from sunday while Dunn plays Bate's role.

MacDonald's a like for like replacement for Grimes and I'd also like to see Bennell get named in Casey's best for another week before coming back in.

Warnock would be unlucky but River's really does lead our back line well IMO. And he also doesn't turn it over quite as much as Warnock does.

One change for Grimy if he's unable to play.

Jamar needs more relief in the ruck, whether it is from Dunn or a player like Martin, Newton or Spencer I am not sure.

Macdonald will come in for Grimes if he is still injured.

Clint I think you are on the money.

Why change a team that has just won by 90+ points.

If Grimes is out you need a replacement.

For mine it is Mcdonald.

What did Warnock do wrong today?

As usual he played hard and tough at the ball, his oponent kicked a couple so what

show me a backman who does not conceed a couple of goals and it was not always his fault.

Poor Warnock. Jones obviously played well so people need someone else to whinge about with absolutely no justification.

I laugh how you wrote he holds on every week, and it's something others do when they are out of form. So you know, this was Warnock's first game for the year, and he was picked due to excellent form at Casey.

Anyway, as someone else said; No Change unless Grimes is injured. Bate needs to improve this week, he played pretty woeful in a team that won by 96 points. He did enough one-percenters though to give him a 2nd chance.

Yesterday proved one thing to me we need two Clint Bartrams. Who would of thought 2 years ago we would be seeing that comment. Yesterday he reminded us that he is our best stopping midfielder. This week agianst North I would love two of him, one to play on Brent Harvey and the other the play the back pocket role. Yesterday it suited with the weather conditions to play 1 ruckman, going against North at the Dome we need two rucks and assuming Grimes isn't fit changes are

Out Grimes, Bate

In Martin, Bennell

Bennell goes back to the role we drafted him for a speedy defender, this will allow Bartram to smash Harvey. We stop Harvey we will beat North, this bloke has carved us up over the past few seasons.

And in defense to Matt Warnock, so he bloody should.

Read my post DC - I questioned the logic of his opinion of Warnock.

Well we call it how we see it. His language might have been a bit strong but I agreed with his sentiments.

Warnock is very vulnerable when it is one-on-one with the incoming ball. He tends to over manhandle, takes his eye off the ball and plays the man. For a big(gish) guy he is too easily pushed off the ball. I would prefer he keeps his eyes more on the ball and goes for it. He can be quite a good mark when he wants to. In defense of Warnock yesterday he came up against a giant of a man in Tippett who looked a whole head higher.

Not exactly like for like. Why should Martin come in? Jamar put in far more draining performances last year and came up fine the next week. Dunn rucked most of the last quarter, and Jamar can handle himself.

In: MacDonald

Out: Grimes (inj)

Agree. Can't run risk of brining too many talls in so martin/rivers not answer to replace grimes. I liked our structure with lots of runners on the weekend. Also I think warnock deserves to stay for mine...

Bate deserves another week. The early part of the game I thought it was handy to have a bit of a stronger body around the forward line together with Rick P. He needs to do a lot more to hold his place though but deserves another week at least.

Dunn does bugger all in most games after the first 20 minutes, not going to get swept up and say he adds to the ruck stocks because he doesn't.

OUT - Grimes, Dunn

IN - Bennell, Martin

Having Bate, Dunn, Petterd, Jurrah and Watts in the same side is a huge advantage for us, if they play well it's incredibly potent (or should I say if the midfield plays well). Five mobile 190cm+ guys all capable of kicking bags.

I can't understand the impression given by some in this thread that Warnock is no good, but Bate 'deserves' another chance. Warnock did well enough for his first match, Bate did not. Dunn, despite limitations and inconsistency and a big mouth under that mo, is a more menacing player than Bate who has only one gear and can't hold the ball when it falls into his hands. I think that's why Green wouldn't handball it to him in the goal square after having shaped up to do so. I don't mind giving Bate another week to show something, anything at all, but would prefer to see a fleeter player in the side.

My changes would be Martin and Bennell for Grimes and Bate. And Martin only to give Jamar some rest and because NM have some heavy talls. Martin's a better defender than attacker.

Bate is mobile in the same way that the Ford Edsel was mobile. He played his best football early on, when he could run in a straight line through the midfield. Since turning his body into a muscle-ball he's lost whatever skills and finesse he might have had. I wish I were wrong about him.

He applied great defensive pressure yesterday, particularly in the third quarter. I am not a fan of Bate's at all, but he deserves another week.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
