Bleeding about Martin getting dropped and Newton ending up as the second ruckman. If he's been in form at Casey kicking goals (allegedly) pick him as a forward and play him there instead of dragging him all over the place (yes, I am aware we don't believe in having a forward line).

Having said that, if we turn up and Dunn is the second ruckman Bailey can slurp my plums.

Since when does Martin and Davey play the same role? There was no way Davey was going to be dropped but send him back to a pocke t o get back to what he does best. Stefan has been much improved in the ruck but does not look capable of kicking a goal which is where he would be for most of the game. Newts deserves his chance. expect a bench of newts bail gysberts with wonna as the sub if we play Dunn as the sub again I will be physically Ill.

It was a general comment.

But you'll excuse me if after last week's epic disaster the words "Michael Newton" don't fill me with joy and happiness.

IMO, with the exception of Morton, the changes this week are soft. Rivers is 'injured', and no other senior player has been made accountable for their performance. Let's hope the same players who have given us little this season repay Bailey's faith.

Martin is stiff to get dropped, and I hope we go with one ruck and Newton remains at Casey where he excels.

Edit: HOW IS DUNN STILL GETTING A GAME THIS WEEK?!?!?!

Martins intensity to me has tapered Off, over the past couple of games, with the rest of the Team. As a player of mature age, he doesn't have that luxury.

So with players inform at Casey, we Must respect good form from our Casey boys when our senior players are stuffin' about.

Martin will sharpen up, and Newton deserves a chance to show something. if he's in?

Granted, finger injury would have limited his ability to add size this year, the PCL he got in 2010 should not have impacted on his weights.

I noted in the BP thread that he HAS added 10kgs since being drafted with injuries and reduced pre-seasons, only weighs 5kgs less than Goddard at this stage.... and is barely 22... think he will put on the required KG's soon

then hopefully uses it to some affect

I've seen kiddie pools with more depth than our list. Scary stuff.

Nothing wrong with the depth of our list. This comment shows little foresight.

What I would love to know is what has Martin done wrong that he gets dropped ahead of guys like Davey who were shizen last week and since round 1.

Lots of shuffling of deck chairs on board a sinking ship really. Very ordinary ins but I suppose the only two good players we have left are injured.

Well we know Martin has played back up ruckman for Jamar. With another tall Warnock coming into the side and playing down back, They must be focusing on swapping Jamar in the forward line with another tall capable of kicking mutiple goals thus swapping with Newton or Dunn.

I think its worth a try. We need to have another option to the lead up forward in Jurrah. We know Newton and Jamar are capable of taking big marks in packs or bring it down to the ground for Maric and Wona.

Martin has definitely improved which is good, but Id say Warnock is more capable down back.

They are looking for a tall to come in ruck and kick goals, thus picking Newton.

So out of Newton or Dunn, only one will play.

How will we stop tippet and co.

Stop there midfield !!!

Hoping Warnock to McKernan. Frawley to Tippet. Garland takes Walker. Tippet has ripped Warnock a new one on more than one occasion. Don't really want to see that matchup.

More marking targets up forward this week. Hopefully a couple of them stay in our forward half of the ground.

Agree that Martin is a bit stiff but also concur with the view that his intensity has declined in the last couple of outings. Needs to run hard & seek contests.

You were the cause that resulted in spraying coffee over my screen with that comment....

I'm sure Bails will be looking forward to it.

Disappointed to see Martin dropped. He has been one of the main performers this year, and unfortunately has copped it after just one bad match. I'm not a fan of that move, and I'm even less of a fan of seeing Newton replace him. He will fail, I can't see anything else happening.

Martin has been good without being brilliant.

Hopefully Newton gets a run, he might provide another target up forward.

With Bate in i hope to see Watts played deeper, he took some good marks last week.

Not sure why Bennell got the boot, but good to see Pettard back in.

Would be good if Davey played off a HBF, with him and tapscott there we would be able to get the ball past the centre / HF.

If Adelaide win and smash us in the ruck. Questions will be asked about dropping Martin. Big call to dump him for mine. Especially as he has been one of the few good things to come out of the early games.

Agreed. Jamar needs decent back up. Newton too slight for hevy body ruckwork required and has shown he doesn't like the hard stuff that much so far.

Dunn up forward any day if he's in form and ball actually makes it there enough times. He's shown he can be a multiple goal kicker at least on a good day. No way should he be rucking or out of the team at this point given our limited forward options.

Martin is just beginning to find his feet with his newly improved man bod (more work needed though) and able to take on a bigger work load to assist Jamar and pffffft....he's out. Typical of our poor selection methods IMO....over many decades. Happy to be proven wrong though. lets see how they go Sunday. B)

I'm really happy with these changes. Am also hoping for a bench of Gys, Newton, Joel Mac and Bail.

I don't think the effect of so many changes will be too bad. All have been in at least decent form at Casey and should add a bit of desperation to the side which has been sorely lacking. And most are reasonably proven at AFL level anyway.

Martin has been great this year. He would have been good insurance in defence this week as back up against Tippet and co. I mean Warnock is only 191 or 192 cm.

Add an inch to your estimates and you've got Warnocks actual height. He's listed as 194cm on the club site. Given the height of the crows forward line, we'll need his height and bulk against the likes of tippet, walker and mckernan.

Melbourne v Adelaide

Sunday 2.10pm, MCG

Melbourne had their most disappointing loss in some time last week against the West Coast in Perth. Many were looking at this game as evidence the Demons had really improved on previous years and they failed dismally.

Adelaide, however, sprung back into form with a 19 point win over St Kilda at AAMI Stadium. It has been an up and down year for Adelaide, but it was an important win for the Crows confidence against a St Kilda team desperate to find form.

Melbourne devastated its fans with its performance last week. Pressure has been heaped on coach Dean Bailey, and it will take a massive turn around in fortunes for his contract to be renewed. No multiple goal scorers for the Demons last week who struggled right around the ground. Jack Grimes had 27 disposals, however he was apart of a defence which leaked goals with frightening ease.

The Crows lead for the entire game against the Saints, but it certainly was no easy feat. Kurt Tippet and Chris Knights impressed up forward with four and three goals respectively, and Scott Thompson was played well for his 27 touches.

Melbourne coach Dean Bailey has threatened to make a string of changes with Matthew Bate, Michael Newton, Matthew Warnock, Ricky Petterd, Addam Maric, Neville Jetta and Joel Macdonald all listed in the squad. Jared Rivers will miss with an ankle injury, while Cale Morton, Jamie Bennell and Stefan Martin are all omitted.

Ivan Maric, James Sellar, Jared Petrenko, Rory Sloan, Christopher Schmidt and Jack Gunston are all in with a chance to come in to the Crows team, while Phil Davis (shoulder) and Richard Tambling (suspension) are enforced changes, and Brodie Martin is omitted.

A massive game for both teams. Adelaide would love to continue their return to form with a win away from home, while nothing short of a victory will appease Demon fans after last weeks debacle. Expect the Demons to come out with ferocity – because if they don’t, all hell will break out. Melbourne have the benefit of being at the MCG – this is the Crows only game at the home of football for the season – and that may just get them over the line.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
