I was wondering what was missing from Demonland post-match...

I'd consider going unchanged. Petterd must start next week, and Maric could be the sub.

If anyone's going to be dropped it's Maric, but there has to be someone to come in, and I don't think Gysberts, Bate or Wonaeamirri did enough for Casey to warrant pushing him out.

When Morton, McKenzie, Frawley and Scully get fit and return, that's when we can release players like Maric. But for now, provided we didn't get any injuries, I can't see a need to drop anyone.

Frawley Twitted to say he should be right next week. Therefore.

In: FRAWLEY

I was disappointed in Maric. His pre-season earns him more than one senior game, but he did a couple of pretty soft things today which are inexcusable. Either way he should be the sub next week and Ricky should start. He was on fire when he came on in the last.

McDonald does so many ordinary things that sort of cancel out some of the good things he does, so perhaps he makes way for Frawley. Either way, BRING BACK CHIP!

If Frawley were fit, then I'd say Macdonald would be the omission.

Otherwise, no change.

There must be a reasonable chance that Frawley might be fast tracked in - I think they would like to have him available considering our backs will have to deal with two big power forwards. Also, Jones seemed to suffer some sort of shoulder injury, so even if it's not too serious, they may be tempted to give him a week off.

Would be the wrong thing to drop Maric. for gods sake give the bloke a few games at it. He wasn't terrible today, could have been better. He played a decent game against the swans last year and it ended up being his only one as he was dropped. Let him go for a few games, he deserves the chance.

Likely ins are Gysberts and Frawley so take out a defender and on baller type.

Surely Frawley needs a run at Casey he has not played a game in 8 weeks.

Perhaps the Sub at best!

Subject to fitness:

Out: Macdonald

In: Frawley

Joel wasn't terrible but I think the team was nicely balanced. If Frawley is fit then Macdonald misses out. He doesn't have the height to take on Hale/Roughy/Buddy and after that Hawthorn are mainly small forwards.

As for the sub:

Ricky should play a whole game if fit. I still think Maric was clean enough with the footy to be worth preserving with. So in that case I'd go with Watts. I know Watts needs whole games but I think we're better off with Petterd as an undersized. Watts should bring in some run in the second half.

The New boys need some games on the trot to find some momentum. From what I saw, I wouldn't make any changes unless the obvious happens, and Frawley ready, or there's an injury to someone.

Please keep it settled until the senior players are ready to return from injury.

I wish I had spell check!

What's this based on Bay? Who would Gysberts replace? My idea of making a change is to replace a player with someone better (especially if there are no injuries), and I'm bugger if I could see anyone out there today that should be replaced by Gysberts based on my opinion.

If Frawley is 100%, he plays, possibly at the expense of MacDonald, but I do like Joel's toughness against sides like Hawthorn.

Keep the smalls in. We'll need speed and dash to trouble the hawks. If we can get more speed then good.

I've a feelinf that Frawley won't be ready yet. A Hunch. Don't know why.

Won't happen, but on today's performance

IN: Frawley

Out: Rivers

i totally agree with this.

Macdonald could get in trouble with the MRP panel for his attempted trip too.

Good point - will make life a lot easier if it were to happen! Flash got reported too, which I think may earn him a week (depending on if he has carry-over points).

Stuff Maric. He can be the sub at best, Petterd comes in full time. if Frawley comes back, probably Macdonald out.

It was the hard in & under kind of game that Jones should have excelled in today... but he is on thin ice I think. Not sure who could come in for him just yet though.

Anyone.

Seen enough a long time ago.

Gysberts.

I'm with you, too.

Rivers is a mark, go back, assess options, old style footballer. Too slow in both mind and body.

If it is the incident I am thinking off, nothing in, not even a free kick - very ordinary umpiring today.

Late last year and over this pre-season I really went off Joel Mac. Too many ill-discplined acts, and goes off his opponent too much without offering much as a couter-attack.

Strikes me as a slower Cameron Bruce. Maybe there's some kind of deep inner turmoil I'm expressing there... maybe not.

Certainly, I think having both Rivers and Mac in at the same time doesn't make sense, and I prefer Rivers because he is taller and smarter, even if he does get the cranky-pants sometimes.

So, the ideal change for me would be Frawley in, MacDonald out.

Petterd has to be in all game next week. Damn I love that man.

It would be terrible for Addam Maric to be dropped right away just because his 'new attitude' didn't quite deliver in his first senior game 'back'.

Exactly what happens will depend on who pulls up sore, such as Jones and the knock to the arm. I think one of the tatts may need retouching... 1-2 weeks?

Posted

Why does Maric deserve another week? He was timid and offered little pressure. He was sh1te and should be dropped accordingly. Anyone who doesn't say Frawley for Rivers has rocks in their head.

Ins Frawley, Gysberts (play as sub)

Outs Rivers (but wont happen), Maric

Won't happen, but on todays performance i'd be dropping Jones. His decision making is just deplorable. Love his endeavour, love his physicality and courage. Just not sure he's got any other weapons in his armoury. Slow, can't kick, not great awareness.

Petterd must start the game. Pointless to speculate, but I reckon if he'd played the first three quarters today we would have come away with the 4 points. He's just so dangerous in the air and such a tough matchup.

Not sure that a player like Maric is ideal as a sub, think subs need to be able to cover a few more bases.

For me, possible subs and changes to the side (suspensions or injuries?) would be

(i) Newton - based on reports from Casey, etc., and he wasn't promoted from Rookie for nothing

(ii) Frawley - though might not be match fit for a whole game, so sub?

(iii) Gysberts - perhaps not match fit enough for a whole game either, but good reports from Casey

(iv) Morton - see Frawley

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
