Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What more could WM say..?

@Jaded, to say not any one of us would turn that money down...

It is not a choice between all that money and nothing.

It's a choice between a hell of a lot of money, and an absolute truckload of money.

Both will keep him very comfortable for the rest of his days.

Who of us is to say that if we already had $600K that we'd jump at the chance to get $1mil?

I'm sure some of us would be that greedy, but some of us would see other things as the priority once we're already at the $600K stage.

The Syndrome is like a any stereotype, it exists for a reason! Poeple dont just make stereotypes up out of thin air. Maybe because over the last 40 years we havent had a lot of things go right and when they do go right things tend to conspire to prevent it from continuing. There are many example and this Scully saga threatens to be another. In the flip side to the syndrome, how can some people be so sure that things will be ok this time?

This should be someone's signature.

Wow.

For those that just pass by the references to MFCSS and don't pay them any heed - look up.

A justification for MFCSS was attempted.

Wow.

Wolfmother. I know your watching. We need a comment!

Wolfmother has gone to bed but he thinks it's time for everyone to lay off Scully!

He might have something more inspired to say tomorrow...

I don't think anyone read the end of what I wrote, which was to say that this is all based on the assumption that the money being thrown around in the rumour mill is true.

We can't, and won't, get anywhere near $1mil per year offer. But as I said, if we can get close and try to match the offer of GWS with some clever financial incentives (think Judd and Visy), then I can't see why he wouldn't stay.

This is the club's time to shine. We missed out on Judd and several other big names over the years. Lets hope that all that experience comes in handy.

And you know something else, the more successful we are this year, the harder the decision to leave becomes. So lets concentrate on playing and winning games, and Scully is very much going to be a part of that. The hunger that drives him now will only get stronger if he gets to play in finals this year. that should be our greater focus. He may be a star in the making, but he is afterall just one player.

I'm glad Velocity Sports came out with that statement. There's nowhere really to go now as far as speculation until later in the season. I for one will take Tom, his management and the club at their word.

Just a final point I'd like to make though. There seems to be a number of posters who feel that losing Scully won't overly affect us in the long run. That somehow we've got enough young guns coming through to cover him. I couldn't disagree with more with these sentiments. This kid is going to be something special. A Judd/Hird/Voss level generational champion the likes of which our club has not had since probably Robbie Flower and maybe even the great man who's number he dons on his back - R.D.Barassi. If we're going to get over the line in grand finals against talent-laden sides like Collingwood and the Gold Coast we're going to need Tom Scully. Period.

And I'll repeat what I said earlier, if we do lose him nothing short of a priority no.1 draft pick will suffice as compensation.

Would you have said the same thing if it was Trengove? they had comparable first years.

I read that.

I just considered it irrelevant.

GWS will still offer him a truckload of cash, which we won't be able to match.

It will also be an amount you or I wouldn't be able to pass up.

I just think it's important to keep in perspective that the amount we will be able to offer Scully, will still be enough to mean he can live very comfortably.

That assumes that he is their real target. I think that he is one of there targets but not the big one and they might not have the room if they land the really big fish they want. Remember that all of this hit the fan when Eddie offered an opinion and he is hardly impartial.

No, he is not.

Like I said a few days ago, Gubby Allan worked for Eddie as list manager, so it is highly likely his old mate is doing his GWS mate a favour.

Or just reporting the whispers passed on by his old mate.

Gubby admitted doing exactly this when he was trying to convince Buckley to move to the pies from Brisbane.

agree one million percent. Even a number 1 won't be fair, I think he will be a better than average number 1, better than most of the last 10 number ones. Massive call but I believe it.

"If Eddie McGuire wants to talk about Scully, he ought to watch his own backyard," Sheedy said.

"Pendlebury, Thomas and Swan are all superstars. I would be very surprised if Gubby Allan (football operations manager) could not get one of them. They are the type of player we are after."

Connors, who manages Thomas, and Pickering, who manages Swan and Pendlebury, refused to comment.

compare that to the response from camp Scully who have said they have NOT talked to GWS, as opposed to refused to comment

cop that Eddie

I think we're all going to have to resign ourselves to a frustrating year when it comes to Scully and his contract. There's going to be a truckload of speculation, people will constantly be telling us he's going, and they may be right, but there is nothing we can do about it until the season's over or he randomly agrees to terms.

One thing we can do is give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the speculation and make sure that he feels like the MFC is his home. Hopefully if he is offered the insane amounts he will cinsider melbourne as his best chance of success, and to leave a legacy worthy of the history books.

I never understand when the management say 'we will hold contract talks at the end of the season so he can concentrate on his football'..Surely signing with the dees now would do exactly that. If he wanted to be a dee, he would come and out and say 'I want to be a dee, but im just waiting for the right offer to come to me from them'.

They're all guessing.

This from Wilson:

"There are several points worth making here. The first – and most significant – is that, in the view of this columnist, Scully will remain at Melbourne. Despite the strangely worded, unconvincing and reactionary statement released yesterday by his management, which in reality told us nothing, the fact is, he just doesn't seem the type to make such a radical move."

And this from Sheahan:

"Tom Scully, the young man entrusted with Barassi's No. 31 jumper 12 months ago, will create an impact of similar proportions if he leaves at the end of this year for Greater Western Sydney, as is probable, if not already done."

Who would you back in - Wilson or Sheahan?

I guess coz saying "We want to wait until the end of the year because we want to be able to screw every last dollar out of the club" sounds a bit rude.

Fair dinkum ....

We demand mental strength from the players but how about we show abit ourselves .

A little jab from Maguire and many are staggering around waiting for the coup de grace , mission accomplished on his part .

It's gonna be a long year so how about we man up and let the list managers deal with it .

if tom scullys managment think that putting off his contract negotiations till end of the year because they want him to focus on his footy is a good idea then they are morons, the speculation about tom going to gws is going to intensify by the week and its going to put more pressure on tom, there is no way this will last till mid year if nothing is said i would expect that his team mates will start to ask the question before then loyalty is still a big part of a football club

I think most people have lost sight of the ball. From day dot Scully's management has said that they won't be looking at any deals until the conclusion of this year. The reason isn't GWS, or maximising his potential under the current Bargaining Agreement/Salary Cap - but rather to wait for the new TV rights deal and the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. No manager worth his socks would agree to terms in the early part of this year without the knowledge of what these 2 things will do to the Salary Cap and therefore the maximum that they can get for their client (& therefor themselves!!) The new proposed Billion dollar TV rights deal will significantly change the landscape for player contracts - the Players association know this and are jostling for an increased Salary Cap... hence bigger pay packets. Why would anyone let alone our own Tom Scully sign anything until this is known.

Calm down people, move on, footy is back Friday night, lets revisit this once the Collective Bargaining Agreement is reached

Best post of the thread so far.

It is in a lot of people's best interest to de-stabilise the MFC.

Well so far it appears that the rumour has been given legs by North Melbourne and Collingwood sources............. fancy that.

In the war of football remember that truth can be an elusive beast.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
