  1. I'm glad Tom's fronting up to the media has helped to allay the concerns of Melbourne supporters... I think it's time for everyone to stop being so negative and getting caught up in the media hype. Just get behind Scully and show him how much we appreciate him being a demon!
  2. Wolfmother has gone to bed but he thinks it's time for everyone to lay off Scully! He might have something more inspired to say tomorrow...
  3. I couldn't agree with you more, Mousey! Tom is committed to the club for 2011... and what a great year it's going to be! It's time to focus on the positives and stop worrying about the what ifs and other bs.
  4. Man Old55 - you pipped me to the post literally! I was so proud of myself for figuring out who was missing... Anyone have any ideas why McKenzie is out?
  5. Jones kicking is quite good when he is in space, he regularly hits targets in the fwd line when breaking the lines through the middle. If he gets the ball in the contest he has to through the ball on the boot its not that easy to hit someone on the [censored] with the pressure on the ball carrier... I think jones is fighting for a spot with McKenzie, once JMac retires, maybe even Gysbert. They are all similar age bracket so there is no need to play the kids only who is the better player... At the start of the year Jones was playing fwd mainly as a defensive high half fwd(always in the forward group during the breaks) which also means he maybe competing for Bennells and Dunns position.
  6. Talk about stirring the pot for no reason... I spoke to scully a couple of weeks ago and even though the club want him to resign now he doesn't plan too. He and his manager want to wait until the end of the next season.... nothing about going to GWS just wants to play footy and get some games under his belt.... Does this mean you will come up with the same stupid thread next year... one of the guys above mentioned speaking to Jack about it and said won't happen Contracts are done on players/the club terms so give it a rest
  7. Maybe Dunn.... saw him leave the rooms on crutches... not sure why though
  8. Scully will finish higher than trengove... especially if they start playing him the middle in the last few weeks of the season. They have protected him until now and he only played the last qtr against the bombers in the guts. Of interest was that at rd 11 or 12 the sen crew had it between scully and hanneberry amazing how a couple of weeks can change the views of people
  9. I was actually going to write the same thing... You can get pigeon holed early in your career and I think alot think bartram is no good just holding a spot until another comes up.... I think he is only 22??? and is playing the lock down backpocket job very well. He is never going to be the best disposal of the ball but neither was whelan... (Cheney is 20 vs Bartram is 22) I think a great example of an early myth is Brad Greens kicking for goal... All the commentators crap on about how good a shot at goal he is etc etc but besides his first two years when he rarely missed he nothing better than average and not what he was original like when he started his career. I think as he continues his career in the fwd line his accuracy may increase but it has only been okay over the last five years.
  10. Had a chat to Jonesy last year about his kicking and the long bombs etc etc. He is a fairly open and honest guy and he was starting to notice the extra time he was getting on the ball to allow him to lower his eyes. He mentioned that over the part two years that the midfield had been under so much pressure that they had to just kick rather than assess options. Maybe it is an experience thing as I think we forget he is only 22 but when he gets time on the ball he can use it well. I think he setup three forward marks by kicking to advantage yesterday. I think both Jones and Maloney are good footballers that will fit into our squad/team over the next few years and players like scully will make them look even better. Its not hard to have your colours lowered when playing Geelong they are in a different league to most of the AFL.
  11. I was sitting next to the Russian at a pre season dinner and had a chat about him being a lone hand in then ruck this year as all the others are injuried. He stated he could ruck the whole game but at about 80% because he couldn't get to all the contests... Interesting to note he nominated PJ as returning from injury and the back up role. Also a player being on the ground the whole game won't create injuries as mention above. Before rotations became so popular players barely rested and the injuries weren't higher. The issue is how many contests he can get to in a game
  12. I love brent moloney's football style and his on field actions but he won't be the captain of the club... Speaking to Don McCardy the other day he rates Grimes so highly and suggests there is no reason why he can't be the Captain after 30 games for the club. He rates his leadership and off field/behind the scene attributes.
  13. Why would I, who do you bring in for Cale (mind you this was posted before Scully's unbelievable match). Everyone wants to drop a Batram or a Dunn but both are playing different positions in the team..... one being back pocket the other a lead up fwd. Unless you play Cale as a fwd (which is possible) his best position is the wing... So if Davey has one wing and Cale the other where do Trengove and Scully fit??? The bench on Friday was Bennell, Hughes, Johnson and Scully... Bennell plays the small defensive fwd so unless you put him to back pocket and drop batram then he stays as thats not cales role. Hughes plays a med marking fwd this is not Cales role in the side (maybe in the future) Johnson plays as the second ruck (again not cales role) Scully plays on the wing and thats Cales role... of course you could drop Hughes and go one less fwd or not play a second ruck but looking position for position McKenzie and Scully are last (I think) for their positions at this stage... I don't want either dropped and think they should stay in all year but people need to look at postion for position and team balance rather than just look at someone like a Dunn or Batram because they are easy pickings...
  14. It's not like Lake didn't try the exact same thing at the other end when he started celebrating the goal when he kicked a point... he was trying to fool the umpire
  15. I couldn't agree more! We've got such a talented group of players and they are playing a very exciting brand of footy. They don't always get it right and we can't expect them to - they are still developing. But, when they put in the hard yards, why can't we just give them credit where credit is due??? Melbourne supporters can sometimes be the team's own worst enemy...
  16. I couldn't agree more... Scully played an inspired game last night! He was so exciting to watch! I can't help but ♥ him! So glad my husband saved me from being a Collingwood supporter!
  17. Sorry - that wasn't me who posted. It was actually my husband, thinking he was signed in, but thanks for the warning.

  18. Scully and Trengove are collectively known as the Pirates! Scully is obviously SKULLS... And Trengove is NO-R (say it with a pirate's accent and you'll get it)! ♥ THE PIRATES
