Yes i remember Jeff Farmer on "Demon Radio" telling us all he really wanted to be a 10 year player at Melbourne-Within weeks he had left.

Talk can be cheap. I wait for a signature.

Good example.

to be honest, if he doesnt want to take a one year contract at the club, for the price we offer, we dont want him anyway, i would rather have a player who wants to be there, than a player who wants money

I didn't realise you were serious.

If Bruce gets to play on in 2012 then he will be played - and not to reach some milestone. We should be pushing the top 4-6 in 2012 and you think there is worth in promoting a rookie in place of Bruce?!

There will be 5-10 players on our primary list who won't get a look in before we start to think about playing rookies.

Yeah I was, but now on reflection, I don't know if the theory stands up anyway. Because Bruce would hypothetically, be on the vet's list, so that idea may not at all be feasible.

My thinking was that by 2012, Bruce Could be, around about our 21st player, in the side, & as such would be at the tipping point. So, it could have been a way of getting him to the games + then using the retirement to elevate a rookie to the senior list, not necessarily to the senior team.

Come 2012, IMO we will still be fairly green with young players. And undeveloped bodies.

Maybe no more than wishful thinking, but I thought I'd put it out there.

Mind you, I am not the biggest Bruce fan, but we do need some experience.

Ffor crying out .. Someone shut the door on this Prima Donna and self ticket writing manager . Bruce just isn't that good. Again .. Toughen up Princess , suck it in , sign and get on with it. Or............., !!!

I just wish he would sign. Yeah ok I understand no one would want to take a pay cut in any job but Cam you are a footy player earning thousands. You have earnt enough in your career. Shane Crawford signed 1 year contracts when he was coming near the end.

The thing is cam had a really good season last season and we do need him for the experience. I would be shattered if he left. Also the other problem is he has Ricky Nixon as his manager and you know what he is like. He would be saying to Cam you can probably get more money elsewhere and play finals if we could get you to a club. Loyalty Cam remember where you came from and who gave you the chance. I know loyalty works both ways and clubs can move you on but I reckon you will regret moving on.

I will also be very annoyed if he goes, not at him or the club per se, because each has a perfectly valid srgument for stance they are taking, just that it has happened. He is very much required at this stage

Was on SEN that he'll take the one year but wants more money.

More money? What was it that Davey was for wanting more money?

It's also funny how many people will argue to the death how important Bruce is.

The footy department don't seem to think so, he could easily walk, no club wants to lose anyone important for nothing. Yet we're not even throwing the plug from the kitchen sink at him.

I love it.

Walk Cameron, please.

Posted

I'll pack his bags for him and carry them to the car.

If he wants more money let him have it. We can start rattling the tin and aslo put out a chook raffle.

Posted

Seriously though, I'm starting to think he might have been badly advised by his "Snake Oil" manager or there is a substantially more attractive offer lurking somewhere. His standing has taken a drop amongst supporters at least on this forum.

Posted

If Cam Bruce wants more Money on a one year deal, Fair enough...But, as a compromise he had better improve his disposal from the backline.

Simple really. We cannot afford to carry anyone if we want to win flags.

totally different scenario.. Davey was entering the prime of his career as our best player, and he knew we had to pay whatever, and for FOUR years no less

and who said 'he has the right to demand whatever he can get blah blah blah'

besides: i said the player is required, that has nothing to do with wether or not he is doing the right thing by the club etc, different argument

frankly you are an idiot if you reckon he is not important to the club right now, that's all i care about

The time for Cameron Bruce to do that was six years ago, and he did. In six years time, when Aaron Davey is reduced to one year contracts, it will be because his time has passed also.

You care about me being an idiot? Your concern is touching.

I've enjoyed reading your stuff over the years, but geez you can bend arguments to suite your needs, it doesn't look good.

Davey was our best player and wanted more money and security but he was a "dog". Cameron wants more money when he just scrapes into our 22 and will have no say in a premiership and that gets swept under the carpet by you?

You have your priorities mixed up mate.

We'd miss Bruce as much as we missed Yze and Robbo.

At least Davey and Green signed up when they were in demand.

This clown ain't setting a great example.

unlike some other dills on here you are 100% right he is old and is coming to the end so deal with it.

l would rather see a young player wanting to play AFL wear his jumper then him in it just for the money.

l no some where it will come back to money but to tell the truth he has said it all already

I don't want to pump Brucey's tyres DA, but you do exaggerate a little

Bruce was still top 10 B&F, and not as gorn as Ooz and Robbo who were realy gorn, gorn, gorn when they left

He should have at least a reasonable year in him (helicopters and all) and at worst provides good depth or off the bench. He still offers something for MFC if not for long

Bruce apparently has made a mint the last 3 years but he should accept 1 year and a pay drop

I expect he will (despite his pit-bull manager)

He should realise, or his manager should, that he was favoured by circumstances with his last contract and he was paid way above market.

He should take a year on market or less than market and hope to snag a flag in his last year - 2012.

Otherwise, I am in full favour of doing a Junior backflip, if it is within the rules.

If he doesn't sign I'd agree, do a Junior backflip

Rules or not though I just can't see the club would do it, but I would

Edit: and play him off the backline

That is the problem. It is hard for someone to accept that they will get less than before even if they are in sport and getting older.

Cam is entitled to play hard ball, as is the club.

I think players have to be careful when pushing for more money. If you don't provide value it can shorten your career. Cam is playing a dangerous game if he wants to play beyond this year.

Agree with america de cali. No apology needed. Bailey said the "offer is on the table"...which would indicate it is not signed. Verbal agreement or not.

May need WJ - to comment- but as contracts go- and I've completed many and Ill bet you what ever you like a verbal agreement sticks. However, it does seem he has agreed with basic terms but has not signed over money. He has however agreed to a one year contract I'm told. He'll be there Monday- do you want to put your house on it- as I will put mt tin shed on it. Therefore put your money where your mouth is. If not get of my case.

Don't forget Cam did not have a good pre season last year- he basically did not train after Xmas- therefore to see him Monday- will be great- nearly worth the extra I think and even a two year contract if needed. He will be great for at least another year with the kids.

Agree. But I dont believe he is playing a dangerous game for 2012. Its what he does on the field this year that counts.

Have you ever tried to enforce the terms of a verbal contract in the Courts??

At the moment you dont know what has been agreed to and that either or both parties have committed to contractual arrangements.

The issue is not whether he will turn up Monday but what the state of his contract discussion is.

And HT lives in a burrow in the ground so you are losing out big time offering a tin shed. B)

You care about me being an idiot? Your concern is touching.

no, what I care about is whatever is best for the club, and I feel having Bruce for the upcoming season is an important priority. The 'moral' (for lack of a better word) issues surrounding whatever he gets paid is one thing, I think in this instance they should give him the pay packet he wants to keep him, I think he has earnt it and will be worth it.

you can bend arguments to suite your needs, it doesn't look good.

yeah but the alternative (being wrong) is not acceptable :D

Davey was our best player and wanted more money and security but he was a "dog". Cameron wants more money when he just scrapes into our 22 and will have no say in a premiership and that gets swept under the carpet by you?

He just wants a bit of a kicker on what may be the last year of a valuable, consistent career. Totally different to the Davey scenario, who you must admit, looked like he was going to do a Judd/ablett and walk, as our best player, to the highest bidder. If that had happened it would have shattered the club just as we were trying to get back on our feet. I didn't appreciate that. Comparing it with the Bruce situation doesn't make much sense to me

Posted (edited)

I think many need to ask a simple question . Are we perfectly capable of playing decent footy without Bruce ?

For mine it's a Yes. He's no Ablett, he not a Goodes, probably better than handy but as much a liability with the ball as he is an asset man on man so that's a leveler.

We can certainly use him but we don't NEED him. He got away with murder last contract and seems to be using that as a yardstick. Good on him for wanting a buck, fair enough but stop thinking you're worth what you were, you're worth what the club is prepared to pay. Wake up to yourself Cam, we are !

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
