Just have a listen to you guys.....

Indeed, it'd be nice to go a whole thread without rpfc and E25 flirting and playing footsies under the table.

Green doesn't look good on you Nasher, nor you HT.

Plenty of room for everyone!

Can you please keep Land out of the gutter thankyou.

We are hosting some Ology refugees and I wouldn't want them to think anything other than rpfc as a good and proper poster.

GG and TGR can go to Christmas Island, but.

Interestingly deegirl on O'logy who has been proven right a number of times with her mail, has recently posted that it was learnt that Bruce's contract made him the 16th highest paid player within the AFL.

This makes sense.

Ah ... The first of the WikiLeak disclosures concerning the Melbourne Football Club and if one day an historian were to write a biography about Cam Bruce (I think an unlikely event), then this information might be very pertinent when considering his motives in leaving. I don't really believe it had anything to do with going elsewhere to win a flag but rather that his altruistic stance was related to how he as an individual accepted life after the big contract. In his case I think it was mainly to escape elsewhere. I wouldn't have done things that way in his position (and I believe many others wouldn't either - note Dean Bailey's incredulous reaction) but he was quite entitled and I'm not going to criticise either him or the club for the decision.

The long and the short of it is that it's over. To me it's a sad end to the career of a player who, despite some failings in the latter part of his career served us well.

Time for us to concentrate on the 46 young men who now make up our playing lists.

Bruce didn't leave to win a flag, he left because he wasn't confident of his position in the side in the medium term. Players rarely want to leave their mates. They are more loyal to their mates than their footy club. For Bruce to leave his mates he must have really been concerned that his career would end in 12 months time. And he admitted as much stating that his chat with Bailey was pivotal in his decision making. To think that he thought I'm going to leave my mates and I'm going to forego the opportunity to be a one club player in the off chance Hawthorn win a flag is naive (seems to be a topical word in this thread).

He was a good player that was never the same after the Guerra tackle. As BB stated, he was great one on one and great at extricating himself from tight situations, which made up for his lack of pace. A very versatile player that wasn't as hard at the contest as I would have liked. Imo, you don't win flags when the Cameron Bruce's of this world are in your top 5 players.

Also, Bruce was very political around the club. He didn't want the players going to China as it cut into their off season. I don't believe that Bruce was pushed, but I also don't believe that the club is overly disappointed to see him gone.

The most interesting thing for me in this thread is can we drag it out to 20 pages and well into next year. I am over it.

I am off to read the training threads because they are about Melbourne players.

That's news to me.

I wondered why he didn't attend the china trip & whether the club knew then that he was leaving.

I guess he'd have looked like a bit of a dick, having campaigned against the trip when all the players who did go seem to have enjoyed it so much.

We certainly can drag it out to 20 pages and don't be surprised if it really starts rocking about round 2 next year when we play the Dorks.

I am off to read the training threads because they are about Melbourne players.

While you're at it why not take a squizz at the Dorks training threads and let us know how Cam, Fetta and PJ are traveling?

Whether or not he campaigned against the trip, his absence from the team at a time when it was struggling to make up numbers surely would have been noticed around the club. It sounds very much as if he had already made up his mind and was waiting for another club to make him an offer.

Agree - now Hawthorn scum.

Cam has been ruthless in looking after himself. Pity he never displayed the same ruthlesness on the ground. He wronged the club and not the other way around. I am dismayed why his apologists still continue to defend him on the basis that he is looking after himself and quite happy to weigh his self interest ahead of the club. This logic accepts that they also wouldn't mind for our best future players to leave and play for the likes of GWC, GC or Collingwood because they can offer a better deal. Like saying they deserve the best they can so we as a club don't have any right to them.

the dees play melbourne round 2...who's bruce going to line up on?

my tip is green or pettard.

love or hate bruce...i just hope he gets 5 goals kicked on him.

Bit early for you disco?

Hawks v Dees

I'd like to put Sylvia on Bruce to just punish him all day, but Sylv is more valuable and needed elsewhere.

Doesn't really matter, does it?

He's not particularly damaging.

Reminds me of West Coast's leaked tactics from a few years ago.

Don't remember that, but I reckon I can guess.

Something along the lines of "don't worry about Bruce too much, he's never damaging when he gets the footy anyway"..?

edit: ok, I've just repeated myself.

poo and wee guernsey I guess?

less money than he was on in 2010 or what MFC offered for 2011?

A very good point regarding the money..Bruce may have been offered $150k to play in 2011 whilst Hawthorn may have offered $300k. We do not know- so let's drop it and get on with ourteam, our players and what we will achieve in 2011.

From reports we offered more, which makes sense considering half of his money can be outside our cap.

I'll drop it when supporters realise Cam Bruce left the club and that we didn't force him out in a show of 'disrespect.'

Yeah, and in other news, I think it's unfair the way Norm Smith was sacked.

But then again he may have deserved it. We'll never know.

Let's just drop it and move on...

The difference being Norm Smith left due to bad management whereas Bruce left due to good management.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
