My comment was not a massively racist remark like some are suggesting - merely pointing out what I have seen with the indigenous players during and after games etc (of course, we don't get to see what happens behind closed doors!).

So saying that I don't want an indigenous player as captain because they stick too much to their own kind/race is being highly racist, is it? Some people are so precious...

Mate I cannot begin to explain to you the hardships some of these young boys face before being thrown into an alien world that is a white dominated football club and you are telling me you think they hang around each other to much and this is your reason behind not wanting Davey as our captain?!

I'm not sure about Green as captain. I've noticed an unhealthy desire on his behalf to be overly friendly to players like Jack Riewoldt and Matthew Richardson after Richmond games. I've also caught him embracing Russell Robertson more than once. He's way too insular for my liking.

My 4 yo son wants Liam Jurrah as the next captain; and I am not sure that he is that crazy. Liam has a way of going about his football that just brings in other player into the game, a bit like Robert Flower.

Yes, I agree that Aaron shouldn't be captain. I don't like the way he can be easily unsettled under a tight tag or how he can drift in and out of games at times although rarely.

I'd like my leader to be a tough bodied, goal kicking, brave lead by example type ala Neita.

I admire Aaron and have said that he would make a good captain but I agree that he's a little light in the body. I admired Neitz but thought that a player who spent around 80% of game where the ball wasn't as not ideal captain material for that reason alone. McDonald seemed too much of an all round nice guy. I now believe that a tough nut type midfielder like Moloney may be the guy for the job.

I think the vast majority of Demonlanders embrace indigenous people and what they bring to the club in terms of their personality, talent and culture. A couple of posts don't reflect this and the authors themselves have expressed a change of heart.

I agree. i don't want to be told "what I am thinking", because "I" wasn't thinking anything like that. Aaron Davey is a marvellous player. He is consistently the most skillful and classy player in our side. He is the player that I trust most with the ball in his hands. He is the best and most creative playmaker in the team. He doesn't go missing. He is the player that others give the ball to. If he is made captain, I will be very happy. Over the last five years he has kept me going to the footy. Racial stereotypes are misleading and damaging. Have a good think about what you have stirred up Deezman. I hope none of our indigenous players have stumbled on to this crap because it may well make them feel very uncomfortable.

I don't condone or agree with DM's first post. It was poorly written and lets hope I'm right here, didn't properly convey his message which was less about slurring a group of people as commenting on a group of people.

This is where the PC hissss starts to annoy me a little. We censor ourselves far too much these days. Just as much segregation and damage to becoming one people world wide is done by the supposed "good deed doers" who attack any form of commentary or debate. Why is it so wrong to express an honest opinion about any group of people so long as it is not hate fuelled? To say that there are not common attributes within most groups of society is naive and to be honest it can be one of the best parts of living in a truly multi cultural society like Australia has. But having a specific set of societal dos and don'ts that are fanatically enforced only exacerbates the problem by widening the divide.

Ask a good friend of mine. A Pakistani ex Muslim living in Germany. He pisses off almost every extremist group world wide with his lifestyle. But as he chews on a pork roll and washes it down with beer, he would no more tell you how to live your life than you would his.

To qualify why I am passionate about it, I am an Ambassador for a wonderful organisation CouchSurfing which is actively reducing bigotry worldwide through regular grassroots cultural exchange every day of the year.
