Miller to be delisted

You don't "announce" the delisting of a player in the leadership group via the Development/VFL Coach chatting with reporters after a game against Werribee.

This is a really bad look and I hope the playing group don't react as badly as they would be justified in doing. They were already stinging from their captain being pushed, they didn't need to see this days later.

Totally agree. He's been a loyal servant of the club and should be treated with respect. I really hope Miller gets a lifeline from the GC because he seems a fundamentally decent bloke.

And wouldnt you think Miller embodies your equation for winning culture above. Got the most out of his skill and ability through application and determination while providing leadership (and experience) to a young side. Its clear the players think so given he is still voted by them to be in the leadership group notwithstanding that this year he only had only a one year contract.

The Club needs to ensure players like Miller are exited from the Club respectfully and positively. Gotch's comments did not fulfill that. Any chance Gotch had been told that with MFC's season finish this Sunday that no MFC player who is not going to be on the list next year will be allowed to play for Casey in the finals? Counts out Miller and Bell for starters..

I had wondered why Gotch had mentioned Miller was unlikely to play finals for Casey.

Agree on your reasons for a farewell for Brad. Think this should also apply to him playing for Casey but understand the want to play others, youngsters etc.

My other comments was an aside. The issue is that if the MFC season finishes and the player continues to play in the finals for Casey and gets injured while playing, MFC are a prima facie liable to cover that players medical expenses for the next 12 months. My explanation might have to be tightened by those closer to the issue but its been something that has been implemented before with the alliances at Casey and Sandy.

Well after the insipid form of (most of) our forward line and Miller's good form at Casey he probably deserves a game on form alone, whether he is leaving or not. Coupled with his long tenure and being a good clubman, I have no problem with him getting a last game, if indeed the FD so decide

Re Gotch, definitely not his position to announce delisting. I hope it was just a genuine misunderstanding/mistake.

Well he has kicked 15 goals in about 2 weeks, so he is in the sort of form that would warrant a farewell game.

Sorry, although noone is disputing the calibre of man that Miller is, playing him is pointless. Period. He is not going to be around, and whilst its a 'nothing' game the ONLY thing that can actually be gained out of it is experience for the unexperienced. Even if it is only one game- sentiment is weak and not going to help our cause.

If sentiment is weak then as well as not playing Miller next week, we also dont play James McDonald.

If neither are going to be around next year, using your rationale they both get quietly put out to pasture without giving the fans the chance to say goodbye to 2 players in our Leaderhip Group who have given 20+ years of service collectively to this this club.

I look forward to cheering them both off next week after a win against the bunch of sooks led by 'Bloomer' Harvey. Would love to see Miller smash into him and tell him thats a payback for getting Lynden Dunn reported. But I digress.

While they have most times been flogged by the teams in the top 6 and done a good job opf beating up on teams in the bottom eight I'm starting to think more highly of the Roos given what they have achieved this year despite a relatively young list.

We're not in the finals race now, and its not like he has only play 5-10 games........130+ games of AFL for a club is a great achievement, and I reckon he has earnt a farewell game.

I hope he does play, and I'll happily cheer him off knowing he gave his all for the club while he was with us!

Well. Hes certainly brought about a variety of discussion over the years. Hes frustrated the hell out of me at times( and Im sure im not alone in that ) but I do admire his pereserverance. He certainly gave his all for the club and in that vein I wish him all the best wherever the journey takes him.

And if we happen to beat them this week we'd finish a mere half a game behind them for the year. Look at their performances against the Top 4 and the aggregate margins of those games compared to ours.

Even if this has been properly communicated to Brad and the player group, an Assistant/VFL Coach should not drop it to the media during a routine discussion after an VFL game. Miller's career plans - and his standing in the eyes of other clubs - should be respected. Did Brad ask the club to make it public like this? I doubt it............

I wonder If I sense a frustration & anger in that response, from the Casey coach? Just a thought.

I made a point of their performance against the top four compared to our in another thread and I think its reflection of the strength of our gameplan when executed well but North has still pulled off a few good victories of late hence why I rate them slightly higher now.

On form Miller has deserved a game for a couple of weeks.

Sentimentality and respect have a place when finals are out of the picture.

Surely Miller gets a game. It would of course be nice if Bell did too, but that is harder to argue as his form hasn't been as good.

Despite not becoming the guns we hoped for, they are both respectable players and good clubmen.

I wish them the best, but even if all else fails, they can always take a tilt at coaching Essendon.
