In: McNamara, Martin, Sylvia, (if fit), Jetta (if fit) (if neither fit then Maric)

Out: Dunn, Miller, Warnock, Bate

McNamara to play forward alongside Green, who plays so well as a lead-up forward.

I'm harsh on Warnock but I think Martin can do a lot better at full back than Warnock did today.

There aren't a lot of options outside of who we played today so we desperately need improvement from the majority of our current 22 who just weren't good enough today.

Edit: Forgot Bate. Bad, bad game.

Yes, dropping our captain and our best player from today should help.

Garland and Watts won't be fit, but once they are they will come straight in.

Bennell showed a bit when he was able to run out of defence but too often he ran into trouble and turned it over. He also isn't strong enough overhead.

OUT:

Dunn - Bad. Just bad.

Warnock - Shocking today, out-marked and out-positioned too easily, was really lucky not to have had 7 or 8 kicked on him.

Miller - Bad. Really really bad.

Spencer - I understand he's young and raw and needs exposure, but he just isn't ready for AFL footy yet.

IN:

Sylvia - if fit

McNamara - IMO the most underrated of our youngsters on the list, can play tall-small, back or forward.

Martin - 2nd ruck replacement, pinch-hit up forward

Hughes - something needs to change in the forward line, Danny might just add a spark. Highly likely to do more than Miller or Dunn did today.

First dropped should be Bate he is an absolute disgrace of a footballer, soft, slow and selfish his display today showed that. He needs a good few weeks to regain fitness and think about what's required of an AFL forward.

Benell is worth persisting with, play him off the wing so he can use his dash, he plays to loose to be a solid defender.

Out: Miller.

In: Sylvia.

McNamara is close for me, but he would have to push Warnock out and i don't think he will. Warnock shouldn't have been playing on Roughhead, it should have been Frawley (or Martin if he was in), Warnock was undersized, but not fast enough to take any of the other hawthorn forwards.

Miller was woeful, and I'd rather see Sylvia play at CHF than Miller. He didn't even play like a forward, more like a floating half forward.

Bate was atrocious today but will not be dropped, Jnr seems to have dropped a yard (or two) and I think will struggle all year on what he showed today.

Miller can go, I think Bennell makes too many mistakes at this level and should go back to Casey for a bit.

Were we at the same game? Spencer tried hard all day, and I thought in the second half he really put his body on the line and worked hard off the ball. Deserves another chance. As for our captain, I thought he was fantastic today. Worked hard, led by example.

In: Sylvia, Martin

Out: Miller, Warnock

Out- Spencer, Bate, Strauss,

In- Martin, Sylvia, Bartram (if fit),

Stef Martin is much much better than Spencer, I don't care how he played against West Coast.

Bate NEEDS to be dropped after that game, and Sylvia picks himself as a replacement.

Strauss will be OK eventually, but Bartram is already OK, and much more intense, which we need.

Apart from that, you're struggling to make too many more changes for lack of options. Eg., I'd love to drop Miller too, but for who? Newton?

Bate had a shocker today... but to say he is a disgrace is way over the top when he has produced good footy in the past. Obviously his injury during preseason has cost him fitness and confidence. He will improve in the coming weeks because he could not possibly play any worse than today.

Spencer is a liability on the ground especially in the forward line... too slow & can't kick or mark. He should do his developing at Casey & Martin should be 2nd ruck rotating through the forward line. At least Martin has good speed for his size and can take a mark & apply forward pressure.

Afraid Dunn is not suited to any position & offers the team nothing.

I agree that people are being a bit tough on Bate. Granted he didn't have the best match but he had an interrupted preseason and took a pretty heavy knock early on. On his day he is one of our better forward targets with strength and balance in the contest, and a STRAIGHT kick. Something that can't be said for a few others.

I think Miller has got to go though, with hopefully Syliva fit enough to replace him. On his performance today I'd say Warnock needs to go also, but I know he's alot better than what he showed today. As is 95% of them.

Loving the panic merchants.

There is no way Bate or Warnock will be dropped and nor should they.

In Sylvia, Martin

Out Dunn, Miller

Strauss has a very nervous first game but I will be very disappointed if he is dropped.

Warnock was outpointed but Scarlett would've been raped with the lack of pressure up field.

Bate had a shocker. He has got a serious problem cause this is one of the many years he has started slow.

IN: Sylvia, Maric, Martin.

Out: Dunn = list clogger, Miller = list clogger, Spencer = Invisible 203 man.

In: Sylvia, Garland (or McNamara if Garland isn't ready), Martin

Out: Bate, Rivers, Spencer

Bate had a shocker, clearly wasn't ready for AFL based on his pre-season.

Rivers injured his ribs in the last I think... may or may not get up for Collingwood. He did run off the ground under his own steam so should be right, I hope.

Spencer just struggled. Martin is more athletic, has a better kick and offers more as a forward.

Out: Would like to have Miller & Bate out but don't think we have replacements. Jones was atrocious - caught every time AGAIN, Dunn - fumbled every mark in the first half and roamed uselessly in the second.

Poor old Strauss - they were comparing him to Zac Dawson on the radio. I would keep him in to to avoid permanent scarring. Spencer not much chop

In Sylvia umm

How to beat MFC - numbers around the ball, crowd them - add a pinch of pressure and intercept/gather the 75 1 metre handballs to nowhere.

Out:

Dunn

Bruce (Draw the line! If you dont perform your out!Having said that Davey is close if not for our FD inability to coach)

Jones (poor decision making thats just not needed. Sorry Jones back to Casey for a few.)

In:

Stef. If fit we need him. Colliewobbles are bigger bodies than Dawks, and we need him to get to packs and contest!

Maric. He is part of our future and needs weekly game time. I'm happy to sacrifice experience for this guy. Will work nice with Green.

Slvia. Fit and raring to go! Sylvia adds to both our forward midfield, brings hardness, grunt and cannons!

Spencer is needed, regarless of if Martins in. Jolly and Fraser in with another "Fit" ruckman could kill us.

Miller is close to being drop on "performance based reasons" though we need a target.

Its going to be a hard game.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
