Meesen and Newton

Since drafting both Gawn and Fitzpatrick do you think we really need Meesen?

Or should the FD rookie Liam Patrick instead.

Also players like Majak Daw and Matthew Panos havent been selected and I reckon either player has more upside and potential than Newton.

They have one more year left on the rookie list before becoming VFL mainstays. Sad but true. Part of me hopes Meesen does get to PA or Hawthorn via the PSD because I think he can jump start his stalled career with an established list. Newton has the talent, but can never put it all together when it counts. Essendon could/would be a great fit for him.

Both players just don't have what the Dees need to move forward, which sucks for all involved.

Absolutely pathetic stance by the MFC. Looking every clubs list, including our own (Davey), so many guns have come through the Rookie draft. To overlook this is poor judgement.

What are you talking about, we delisted them both and with their consent agreed to rookie them if they weren't drafted by another club.

I believe Newton might be rookied by another club, so we could get another spot. By doing what we did we got two extra players in the draft.

Only Freo would be stupid enough....

Unless "another club" could mean the Diamond Valley Under 12's.

Aren't they both contracted players tho.

I know we delisted them but i thought they still had one year on there contract. That is why if no1 picked them up we HAVE to re draft them? or did we pay there last year out?

could be wrong tho.

Both Boys have got a year to prove themselves.

It's totally up to them, The club has been Hard but Fair- 12 months lads.....

I think the case is closed. They're gone

If they weren't contracted they would have been cut.

The recruitment of GAWN and Fitzpatrick would be the final nail in the coffin. They should give game time preference in the VFL to those players above Meesen.

MFC have been generous with both of them. MFC got those deals wrong. Its done we move on.

I could be wrong but I would of thought that the club would give both Meeson and Newton an incentive to go on the rookie list like 2 years on the rookie list. Why would they want to be demoted if they are just gonna get the ass at the end of the year anyway?

speaking to Josh Mahoney last night at the MFC event...both players will be paid out for the remaining years on their contracts. Good move by the club as they can now focus on rookie listing players who can actually add something to the side....

Some here call that reckless.

I'd call it common sense.

It's far worse than making a bad deal, on newton at least. We signed him for 2 years knowing full well who we were dealing with.

We should say sayonara to Newton ASAP. Meeson showed a bit before injury. I would retain. No worse than The Russian, better than PJ and a stopgap for the next gen.

We signed him in 2007 on low bucks for 2 years at a time we had no forwards to speak of. It was a long shot punt that did not work. Agree that both should go. Meesen was as much an error as Newton, Hopefully GAWN and Fitz rectify that in years to come.

FWIW, I would have thought Meesen was as bad if not worse. We gave him 3 years and Adelaide pick 37. Newts renewal cost us nothing. Meesen....

The incentive was they had a chance through the ND and PSD with another Club. I think the Club would have told them they are finished

If they can do that under AFL rules then can they rookie others or are they blocked from rookieing replacements?

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
