I'd getting really excited about Grimes.............and what about Maric's 33 touches (i know it's reserves, but still!)

Exciting youngsters.............the dees are on the way up (in a couple of years)

Its good to see Chopper Lovell and his staff playing him in a range of roles. Good development for the kid.

Yep, Juice and Ricky get another week to push for selection.

It will be interesting to see if Bell, White and Yze take a break this week or play and give themselves another chance to push for selection.

Having played all year the club may force them to take the weekend off?

Meesen looks like he'll be another Kepler Bradley. Has all the physical attributes to be an AFL player, but just doesn't know how to play football.

Meesen aside, our crop of draftees from last year (including Wona), are looking very promising. It's good to see that Maric isn't being pigeon-holed as a small forward. In a couple of years time, Craig Cameron may be seen as the messiah!

More games like that and he could be the new "Old" Richo!

It just might be that this club under the Yoda know how to train, improve and bring out the best in these talented players, ie Newton. Imagine an 18 year old Travis with a bit of DB time. I guess we'll never know

Probably the most pleasing aspect of the VFL highlights package [Zeb's V Turd's] was Newton's chase out from the forward line that took him to nearly CHB.

If he can consistently show that kind of determination then he has every chance of making it.

That is very promising from Juice. I think his accuracy will improve with more games...and 11 one percenters and 6 tackles is excellent, and if he can produce this next week he is every chance.

Very promising from Grimes as well considering it was his first game in however long. Im sure they will be cautious in terms of rushing him back.

All the youngsters seem to be comin along nicely with the exception of Meesen and Weetra

Jaaack Grimes!

Positive signs. Make his debut for the Sandy seniors this week then?

Would be nice, but Melb/Sandy have taken the 'slowly, slowly' approach with bringing players back from injury. The standard has been three weeks in the ressies for guys returning from long term injury. Probably a bit longer for Grimes given the amount of time he's been out. But that write up has me smiling. 18 touches in a half? Can't wait to see this kid.

Positive signs for Newton, Bell, and Morton. Hopefully they play this week, and push for recall.

It sounds like all the guys in the reserves all went alright, which is good - but I guess it can be easy when you win big.

Since he's only had a half in the reserves, I think he'll play at least one more game for them.

Positive signs, though.

I like what they are doing with Maric, making him understand the need for accountability by playing him in the backline.

You would think he'll play a few more half games at Sandy ressie b4 pushing for seniors. I'll like to see him get a sniff in rd 22 v tiogs and give him something to work from in preseason.

Can't wait to see number 16 at the G again.

Ah, you've hit the nail right on the head mo, thats exactly who Meesen reminds me of. Same running style, gangly ungainly but somehow athletic, yet both had/have no idea how to get the football. Good call. Maybe we can trade him to Freo to be with Kepler?

i have high hopes that grimes, marric, petterd and morton will all slot into the senior side and be quality players, and it is good to see that the reports of these players consistantly have time and space, get lots of the ball and have a touch of class.

even though they have stuff to learn it seems like they have the underlying attributes that can make them successfull afl players.

newton keeps giving us glimpses of talent. he can obviously play, and he does know what things he has to do to keep his work rate up, perhaps he really has just been struggling with injury?

Newton, Maric, Grimes, Petterd, Morton....

Call me biased, but when talent like that is running around in the 2nds and 3rds, and we still have a bunch of young guns at senior level, it tells me we have the most promising and exciting ist of all 16 AFL clubs.

And just wait for this years National and PSD draft. Stockpile the talent, Dean!

Juice.....

2.5 and two OOF. 13 marks, 6 tackles and 11 one-percenters.

Another game like this and he could be recalled.

The 13 marks and 9 goal attempts don't surprise me given his talent - he did this a few times last year for Sandy.

The surprise is the 11 one percenters - this is fantastic for Juice.

If he is now over his injuries and can show this level of commitment consistently, he may be in line for MFC selection in a few weeks time.

Posted

Thats really good signs from Juice, Bell and Morton. IMO i think Bell will come in for Bode next week and Morton will come in for McLean. Juice is now pushing hard for selection which is good to see.

Posted

it would seem the young demons at Sandy were as inspired as their team mates playing at the G...

who would've thought Juice would have a game like that? great to read about T Mac, Morton, Maric, Cheney and Grimes all playing well too... future is exciting...

Posted

Despite Meesen's crap form, there sounds like a lot of positives to be taken from the younger brigade.

Nice to know they developing Maric's defensive side (albeit in the reserves), and Grimes sounds very promising.

If Newton has another big game for Sandy (in the week off), and kicks a bit straighter, he could well be pushing for selection against the Bulldogs. Who do Sandy play next week?

Posted

Reviews like this are bordering on worthless - you have to look very carefully between the lines. <_< No player is going to get a slagging. Consider White - Lovell says he "dominated the ruck". and had plenty of touches ... linking up (read sitting on the wing?); a number of posters here have mentioned he was beaten in the 1st half, but had a better 2nd half.

Touches can't be hidden tho', so pleasing for Grimes, Maric & Cheney.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
