  1. .... and when we hit the 47 point margin, thousands of Essendon supporters streamed out of the G and missed their revival. Unfortunately I stayed to the end!
  2. I've been watching Trac's dribbled goal in the third quarter and noticed that, in the marking contest that led to the goal, Tom got in front of the 2 WB defenders to prevent them from marking or spoiling effectively, and may even have palmed the ball down in front of Trac, resulting in Trac's amazing goal.
  3. At the Carlton game a bloke a few rows behind me was calling him 'Spartacus'.
  4. At least we're not over-hyping this magnificent AFLX Premiership triumph!
  5. .... and 2 losses to 'Clarko' in one thread! (see 3:35 on the 1987 video)
  6. Whoops, I spelt his name incorrectly. Should be Peter Rohde.
  7. I thought Peter Rhode was great for us after crossing from Carlton. Should be on the imported list.
  8. I'm in Greece at the moment, 3 weeks so far and 4 to go. I've been able to watch all MFC games for free on http://vaughnlive.tv/afldude on both my laptop and the Smart TV in the apartment where I stay over here. The internet is VDSL at 46 mbps so it is really clear with no lags. I was also here last year and used the same streaming site using mobile data (with my laptop connected to my phone) which was a bit laggy but basically OK. The only problem will be when another game is on at the same time and they broadcast the other one, but this hasn't happened yet. Other streams are listed on https://www.reddit.com/r/AFL/wiki/streams.
  9. I was a teenager and had high hopes for Glen Swan. He was a tall forward with a monster kick. He was a good mark and his kicks were long and high, most likely flat punts and torps (not many drop punts in those days). One day at Waverley against Essendon he took a mark between wing and half forward about 70 meters out. I announced to those around me that he would kick it and some Essendon supporters laughed. It went through easily. A few minutes later he marked in the same position but missed. I may be wrong but my recollection is that he was close to Sheffield Shield selection and gave up footy. I think a back injury also had something to do with it. .
  10. Salem hasn't had a lot of game time and shouldn't need a rest - I think he just struggled with North's hard-running, pressure and physicality which is part of the learning process. He'll feel under less pressure against the dogs. Could be the emergency again and ususlly does well in that role.
  11. Well done to Juice! It is good to see him playing well - and still in red and blue!
  12. I started following footy in 1966 when my family arrived in Australia and a very popular kid at school told me to follow Melbourne or he wouldn't be my friend. So I went to a game, was hooked, and probably went to about 12 games that year. We finished 11th (I think) and only won a few games despite having about 15 players still in the team from 1964 and having a great side on paper. We even lost several games by big margins. It was a similar fall to 2007. It is amasing how a team can lose its 'mojo' very quickly and how A grade players can suddenly look like C graders. I know that the political in-fighting in '65 had some effect but, apart from Barassi, did we lose any other real 'stars' between '64 and '66?
  13. The Demonland clock is an hour fast. Must be double daylight saving.
  14. I had a chat with Nev and Jamie Bennell at a family day at Luna Park a few years ago and Nev was really happy just to be on an AFL list and to have had a couple of games. He said he never expected it. It's great that we gave him this opportunuty. Good luck Nev.
  15. I think that a major problem is that our players are not being coached to win. They are being told that the team is undergoing a rebuild (i.e: the current team is no good) and that the club doesn't expect them to win many games. I hear this whenever I hear our coach speak and it is clearly the strategy of the board as well. IMO, with this attitude by the club, it is no wonder that many players have no spark and appear to be just going through the motions. Surely we can continue to develop the team at the same time as having a winning culture.
  16. The dawes will be unhinged. Hope he gets a handle on the ball and shuts his oponent out of the game. etc etc
  17. Well, either the gane plan is all wrong or the players aren't executing it properly. Either way, the Senior Coach is responsible. Dean has always been very dead-pan and has never displayed any real passion. The result is that the team plays the same way. It is obvious to me that he fails to inspire the players. If he can't change this he must go.
  18. 'The Chief of Control" from Get Smart - my son noticed that he frequently wore a Red and Blue tie. He must have been a Dees fan!!!!
  19. AND, they've lost 100% of the games they've lost. That makes 200%!
  20. Regarding on-field performances only: Positive: Won or played very well in 7 out of 12 games - Collingwood (twice), Adelaide, Richmond, Brisbane, W.Bulldogs and Port. Negative: Played very poorly in the other 5 games - Hawthorn, North, West Coast, Geelong, Carlton. We were out of all these games early and were unable to claw our way back in. Hopefully we will get better at this over time.
  21. Do you mean the Ponsford end bottom deck? If so, any other ideas will be appreciated because, without elevation, I can hardly see beyond the centre of the gtound from there.
  22. I usually sit in the middle deck behind the goals at the City end during away MCG games but the Pies have that as reserved seating for their home games. What is the most MFC friendly area (i.e.: "Safest") for us MFC supporters to sit today?
