Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'm checking out for 10 days... The overreacting on here is embarrassing.

JLT means nothing, I have no less confidence in us then I did 2 weeks ago.

We'll romp Port in 14 days time

Pre season mate, calm down.

If were 5 weeks in & we’re still playing like this then we can really worry.

I have no doubt you’ll be laughing at how worried you got from these results.

It was space, delivery to space and opportune leading in the forward line that beat us. Compounded, of course, by the backs who all flew rather than having planned groundwork to do. Joel Smith looked and played like his dad. Well done. on that one.

Oscar made 5 big mistakes in the first qtr alone, 4 of these were close-in goals. He continues to be on the wrong side of his man, or behind by several metres, or attempting to get behind a handy teammate body in close for protection (as if he does not wish to be in the allocated action or to make it look like it is not his responsibility anymore}, or having no chance of a possession and clearance due to his absolute lack of speed. He did not improve for the next 3 qtrs. People say he kicks well. Unless it is a rare free kick, he does not get the ball at all. Poor old Nev - doing his own job brilliantly, and backing up the mistakes of Oscar, week in, week out. No wonder he comes off the field at the end of a game absolutely spent.

Frost has to be the CHB whilst Lever is absent from this team and when Lever returns, it should be as a backline - HBFlank - utility to do his intercept stuff on the flanks and coming into the goal-to-goal line as required; these are his natural attributes. Frosty is the bloke to do the CHB body stuff, the leaps and spoils, and the break-aways. Full stop.

The forwards? Constantly receiving inaccurate bombs, slowly delivered. No sense of making or taking space. No sense of leads to advantage. Happy to crowd as if mere muscle wins games. Initiative matters - and we have none in the forward line at present.

The result does not matter, of course. Just a hit out. I think we have all seen enough of this style of play when it did matter and we would hate to see it this year when it does happen. Modus operandii needs attention.

Keilty got found out a bit today, did a couple of nice things but was otherwise quiet.

In his defence the rotations were screwed up. It was supposed to be him and Max rotating between forward and ruck but that didn’t happen as well as it should have. As such he wasn’t able to get settled and found himself out of position a lot.

Was pretty awesome seeing him line up on Hodge though.

So let's put the result aside.  If we're being honest, it's meaningless at the moment.

I think we are a side that is still coming to terms with a new(ish) gameplan that has to fit into the 6-6-6 model.  We know that Goody loves to use two players off the square and we can't do that now.  It will take time to get used to, and we saw that today.  Sometimes we looked excellent, other times we were left exposed.  That may happen early in the year and we might need to be a little patient with that.

Also, we took in less players and then had both JKH and Harmes go down.  That hurt rotations and it showed for most of the second half.  That can't be ignored.

The positives for me - Brayshaw and AVB looked good, with AVB having a huge amount of tackles.  I think Joel Smith gives us something good up forward and kicking four is a sign of that.  Whether or not they can slot him into the Round 1 side is the big question, but he deserves to be in the conversation.  I think our backline will be fine too, and we added a number of players who were having their first run for the year.  They'll be much better for the game.

Obviously, we need to tighten up on our forward pressure and our skills a little, but that's what JLT is for.  Skills are never top notch in March.  With Viney, Jones and Melksham to add to the lineup, it will take out a few others and we'll be a better side, especially around the ball.

The injuries are a negative too, but if Harmes is okay and it's not too long term, then we've done okay there too with the next game a fortnight away.

No slitting of wrists or worries for me and it hasn't dampened my enthusiasm for Round 1.  Bring it on!

This.

The Swannies and Hawforn made an artform about building into the season proper. The preseason comp is made for tweaking the gameplan and experimenting. Our boys will be a different proposition by mid-season if things go as i suspect they will. 2 losses this year doesn't mean the same as 2 losses in previous seasons. We are a much better side who will take time to adjust to a new Key backman, and yet another who is still to return. Add our 2 Captains,  Melksham, play for 4 points and we a completely different team.

Long term we still look good. This is no time for despair. (Or even worry)

Still, we didnt look very good today :roos:

I got up at 6 am to watch. (I'm in Europe) Should have stayed in bed. My observations:

Backline let down by mids allowing Brisbane easy forward entries.

Forwards competing with each other in marking contests.

No real crumbers in forward half.

For all his strength and supposed ability, Petracca's disposal is pathetic.

Yes, we have Viney, Jones and Melksham to come in. But they haven't had full pre-seasons or proper match practice, so we can't expect too much from them in round 1.

I'm to Melbourne for a holiday next week and intend to go the Port game. But I fear we will struggle against them.

Dismiss it if you will, and many will, but the negative of those 2 games can’t be anything but a huge worry. We are defensively horrible. Up front, on the ball, down back. Poor defensive cover for the loose ball. Giving to players under pressure and not backing them up. Too much unacvountable football.

Lack of effort, workrate.   Attitude is a concern.

Port will tear us another one,  if we turn out like the past 2 JLT games.

I’ve asked before but didn’t get an answer lol

Does anyone know who #47 is for us playing for Casey ? Got mistaken for Pruess in a clip of the reserves game at half time. Big bloke with a bit of ink if that helps.

It's Liam Wale-Buxton - been a dominant Eastern Football League ruckman the last few years with Vermont and for the Tiwi Bombers in the offseason.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
