Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Interestingly, Ben Guthrie believes we will bring in an extra defender in J Smith and JKH the unlucky one to miss.

I wouldn't mind that, as it would allow us to release Fritsch to the wing and forward where he is very dangerous.

Nice to have options at this time of the year. If they do bring in Smith to allow Fritsch up the ground can you see Hannan getting selected also?

Assuming Tyson is passed fit to play, then you'd kinda think it might be a choice between Hannan & Spargo...

You would like to think we would make minimal changes.  I think we won't make anymore than 2 to keep the side as stable as possible.  I feel as though the FD rate Hannan and will want to get him in the side, so with Viney also coming back, it makes selection difficult.  Are Spargo and JKH the unlucky ones?  If Tyson trains well today then you would expect him to play as well.

While it will be harsh on a couple of players it's great to have these problems at this time of the year!

Having smith in allows hibberd to play an intercept role again.

I wouldn't mind viney, Smith & hannan in for kent, spargo (admitted himself he is buggered) and JKH.

I watched Spargo's interview with the Burgatron yesterday and I think he gave it away that he's already been told he'll remain in the 22. He corrected himself with "if I'm lucky enough to" or similar to make the 22.

Am I reading that right?

If Tyson plays then kent is the only injury. Viney comes in for kent. they won't need to drop anyone for Tyson.

But as i've noted elsewhere my strong suspicion is that they will select Hannan, mots likely at the expense of JKH (who would be very unlucky).

Smith would be a curve ball. They would have to drop someone else and the only person at risk of being dropped is Spartacus, i would have thought.

But do they want to make 3 changes to aside that played so well?

Been thinking about this binman. 3 changes is a lot, but if it was Lever, Hogan and Viney we wouldn’t be batting an eye lid over it and I think we need to see the same with Smith. He was best 22 for most of this year and even last year they saw him as best 22 (until injury struck in round 1). So I feel if he is fit they want him in the side.

In my mind, JKH and Kent are out. Viney is in, and then it’s a question of Hannan or Smith. Does Fritch offer more than Hannan in the forward line? Does Smith offer more in the backline than Fritch? Great conversations we are having now rather than who do we bring in to replace yeh rabble we have playing.

I think there is zero chance Spargo will be dropped. He had a cracker against GWS and the bye week has freshened him up (admitted himself he is fresh and ready to go).

Add a slight aside, how fortunate are we that he slid in the draft to a pick in the 30s. Was touted as top 10 pick before the AFL removed his zone from GWS' grasp.

If Tyson does get up, it will be Viney and Hannan in for Kent and probably JKH, though I thought JKH did ok last week. Hopefully drives him to get back in the side.

Good problem to have.

Tremendous question. My thoughts are that Fritsch needs to be fwd and Hannan as well; Fritsch to the bench for rotations fwd. Hannan in selected 18. Spargo has to be the unlucky one at this point.

I can't see any other changes than Viney and Hannan in for Kent and JKH.  Viney picks himself if fit, and Hannan has shown he just kicks goals, even with a low possession count.

It will likely sound unfair, but I think he is a safer pick in a final than JKH.

I'd be very hesitant bringing Smith back in, but the FD see more in him than I do.  I just don't see what match-up he needs to be rushed in for, unless he can go with Dorkins when the Dork goes up the ground.

The problem with playing either or both of Smith and Tyson is the Cats are professionals at gaining any advantage they can, legally or otherwise, and this includes sniping. They'll go after whoever they believe to be our most influential players, but also whoever they think is an easy target. Think back and names like Jetta, Gawn (influential) and Fritsch (young target) come to mind, only in recent times.

Smith's shoulder will be a target, as will Tyson's arm, I guarantee they've already discussed it, in fact they've probably spoken about Viney's foot, but decided the consequences just aren't worth it.

Is there room to play both Tyson & Viney?

Reading Spagos interview it sounds like he is tired and running on adrenaline, we can't have this going into a final. We need players who have the energy to kick further then 30m.

JKH is an interesting one. Dunno what to do with him. I think he may be omitted.

Hannan has to come in and so does Smith to free Fritsch up forward/wing.

Viney for Kent a given

Interesting on the JKH or Spargo question... For Hannan. If Spargo is (or was) cooked, then I think he is a big risk at being the second out - leaving JKH in.

Looking at the stats of the last 4 weeks. (JKH missed the WCE game, and Spargo played all 4). JKH average stats are clearly better than Spargo in Disposals / Tackles / Pressure Acts. And Spargo only managed goals against Gold Coast. I don't think it's clear cut that Spargo retains his spot.

Interesting from Jones above - Is Tyson / Viney both in upsetting the midfield balance? Perhaps Tyson rested makes way for Hannan

As for Smith - it would be a big call to drop a forward / small to include a tall / back - I don't see who we drop for Smith

I agree but who kicks the 2-3 goals that we would have hoped Kent would kick...

I think that is why Hannan comes in the place of JKH or as some suggest... bring in J Smith and allow Fritsch to roam forward. Either way it's most likely JKH out... but then again I think most of us have been wrong when it comes to selections this year ?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
