Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The biggest stat that would suggest he didn't have a good day was accuracy.  His other stats, I'd imagine, would be exactly what Goodwin is looking for in him.

As I said, it'll be interesting to see what Goody rates higher, but I'm expecting that Bugg will play this week.

I too expect Bugg to play. Did he stuff up his opportunities? yes. But he is always heavily involved in our forward entries as a pest who draws free kicks, an opportunist crumber or makes a genuine contest in the air for his smaller size. I definitely can't say the same of Melksham. I hope he gets replaced with Hannan who can have a greater impact up forwards

And, it will also be interesting to see what Goody does with Bugg this week.  On one hand, he 19 disposals, laid 6 tackles and had 4 shots on goal.  On the other hand, if you are a forward, your job is to kick goals when you get the opportunity, which he had multiple opportunities and failed.

Run him with Dusty as punishment.  1 quarter for every goal missed!

I always find it interesting that people always focus on the negatives of a player, ie they missed the shot, stuffed the kick, turned it over ect. It’s almost as if they would prefer a player who made no mistakes but in doing so did nothing in the first place.

On that can someond explain why they would have Bugg out before Garlett or Fritsch this week.

I mean he had more shots on goal, more tackles and more score involvements than both of them. It seems like people would prefer he had 1 shot and 5 disposals like Garlett

1 vote: Tim Smith
Saturday night’s match wasn’t made for key-forwards, but Tim Smith showed his versatility, gathering 17 disposals, laying nine tackles and spending time in the centre. Senior coach Jade Rawlings threw the 192cm tall on-ball in the third quarter in a move, which helped Casey find its groove. Smith had eight touches and kicked a crucial goal in the term, as the Demons clawed back an 18-point deficit to hit the lead by the final change.

Why is it that Dee supporters can rationally accept the garbage served up by this team post quarter 1 on Sunday?

Reality says this means obscurity again this year .. not enough ticker not enough footy smarts..

we don’t need to sack Goodwin just ask the basic question... earn your $500k mate or nick off...

talk about headless chickens... or a team of eunuchs..

Ridiculous call.

I reckon both Smiths are a big chance this week.

Bull will tackle all day and present, plus goody loves the flexibility he offers by going in to the middle.

And Joel has pace so can work back if we get caught out on the rebound. Plus he can play big and small.

I'm not necessarily advocating either, but it wouldn't surprise me and I wouldn't be shaking my head.

Put the stats to one side.

He was hopeless every time he got the ball or went near it.

He had 19 touches but I'd wager close to all 19 of them were turnovers or mistakes.

He can't kick, he can't handpass, and he doesn't score goals as a forward. We cannot carry him on the basis that he tackles and sometimes is "aggressive".

He is, without question, the player who most deserves to be dropped.

How many games does he have under his belt?  I think he missed a chunk of the pre-season but I stand to be corrected on that

No way would I drop him but I do think he plays with an arrogance he is yet to earn

Yes - although he covers a lot of ground, is a pest and manages to find the footy in the forward line, his direct opponent is more concerned about either setting up forward play for his own team or leaving Bugg to help out other defenders with players such as Hogan. Bugg isn't damaging, even when 10 metres out from goal - I know every now and again he'll slot a couple, but he won't be taken seriously until he either kicks goals like a footballer or negates a playmaker.

Well then clearly not all 19 of his touches were turnovers.

Still, DE is a useless stat. The kick which missed Garlett and therefore ruined a certain goal, for example, will be classified as "effective" because it went to a Melbourne player and not a Hawthorn player. But it was a rubbish kick.

He's a momentum killer.

Bugg 4 goals 1 vs Roos and 0 goals 6 in his other two games. The best type of pressure is scoreboard pressure.

Needs to kick 30+ at a decent conversion ratio in the magoos before he gets another look in.

Regardless of who comes into the team, can we please see at least one positional change with Lever being sent forward to play on Rance.

Jeremy McGovern aside, Rance is the premier intercept marking defender in the comp (who is also very adept as a 3rd man up to effect the spoil).

Rance will take Lever to the ball and thereby refresh Lever's acknowledged and much-heralded ability to read the play.

At the very least, Lever would hopefully be able to negate Rance's influence and thus neutralise one of Richmond's most effective play makers.

I would like to see Brayshaw play on Martin all night. Even when Martin goes forward. Jetta or Lever needs to stay back to help out if Martin is given an open forward 50. I prefer Jetta in this spot for his read of the play, spoiling and decision making by foot and hand.

I would like too see Lever go forward at some stage if he doesn’t have a match up or is lost structurally down back. Apparently he played as a forward before being drafted and did well there.

Gawn needs to rest forward more when Pederson in the ruck. Best to stand at the top of the goal square Max.

Jones plays on Cotchin.

Im not sure he has the form/match fitness for AFL yet but wldnt mind seeing him come in for Bugg at some point.   Anzac eve might be ideal if FD thinks his his fitness / numbers are there.

Has an AFL ready body and accurate kick.  Would only need 2 to 3 inside 50 tackles, 3 or 4 score involvements and 2+ goals a game to match or better Bugg/Hannan/Fritsch/Jeffy (who i realise plays a diff role) most of the time.

But i would hate to see him come in under done.  He probably only has one more shot at AFL level so if the FD are going to roll his die the guy needs to be at the top of his VFL game and also be given a 3 to 4 game (minimum) stint in the seniors so he has a fair run at it.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
