Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Not that this is the game breaker, but we just put Jack and Jesse front and centre of a sponsor's campaign.

I don't think we would do that if we were contemplating getting rid of him.

Then again, if the marketing department don't know what the FD  is thinking, that could cause problems.

As I said I think it is rubbish and a media beat up based on a random Waldron tweet!

or...

There is actually something to it....

There is a lot of water to still pass under the bridge but these decisions are not usually spare of the moment decisions.

It's up to the club and Jack/player anyway - there is no point worrying about it

The only logical purpose to trade Jack is to better OUR list.

To do that there has to be said such target player available and a trade made able.

There has been interested parties before but unless we come off better for the horse-haggling I'm for retaining him.

Always happy to upgrade our list though.

I don't think you'd trade Jack Watts for a draft pick, it'd have to be for a specific established player. i'm not sure there really is one on the market who'd be a better option than Watts

Thats it. Id like to see the deal that betters us. I don't think Crows interested nor probably Jack in them.

Theoretical, possibly as part of a convoluted 3 way , so direct comparison not easy, only the residual.

I think Jack is an ok player whos not ( or wasn't) quite right the latter half of season. Id be happy to wager he like a few others took the field way under 100% fit ( for job )

He's actually very versatile. If he went, who could do his role(s) or kick so well ?

Yep. Jack wanting to go permitting, would you consider a straight swap between Jack Watts and Adam Saad?

I think people forget how good his first half of the season was before he got injured, and also finished top 4 in our B & F last year.

We have a lot of inside mid grunt type players, but not many with the silky skills Watts possesses .

You only have to look back earlier this year when he kicked the match winner against Collingwood, cool under pressure, then ran back to full back and prevented a goal.

i find it a little perplexing the we would even contemplate trading players like Watts and Salem, although I do take Brian Waldrons information with a grain of salt.

Add an upgrade in picks and it gets more interesting.

That said. Here's a question for some.

Imagine its 2018. Melb v Other in the prelim, Siren's sounded. Dees are 3 pts away from the GF. The whistle blew seconds before the siren to award a free for a defender's indiscretion. The ball will need to be kicked from about 50-55 out.. and about 10m in from the boundary.

Who do you want holding 'that' ball ?

( I know )

Can only be Watts.  Or ironically, Salem!

I think the club knows that bb, which is why I doubt they will be traded.

And for mine none of the prospective names being thrown around on DL are such reliable kicks at goal under pressure.

I would much rather trade dom Tyson than either watts or Salem.

I think he's falling down the list of our inside mids with the rise of Oliver and petracca and doesn't have the attiributes to contribute as effectively in another position. Petracca can go forward. Dom really can't, doesn't have the skills for defence, doesn't have the speed for wing or forward but he's a more than handy inside mid

Up until his injury he was having a very good year - on top of a great 2016.  Teasing is the right word for it.

A fit and firing Watts makes us a four goal better team; when he's 'off', he's a liability.

I'm conflicted, as I think many supporters are.  If success comes, I'd love to see him there as a key part to it.  However if the offer is very good... perhaps both parties could benefit from the change.

He wasn't good early in the year but had picked up until his injury.

He should be at his peak now and still can't perform consistently. I'd cut our losses and see what he nets us.

Agree to disagree on his early season form, but I'm now leaning towards your thinking about a possible trade.

Watts, with his talent should have won B&F's and be an All Australian by now. I know he loves the Club, I only wish this was reflected in his effort and application. I used to be against trading him but lost interest when he turned up in suboptimal condition to start preseason.

Have to agree with this, waited for years for him to realise his potential then he stuffs up pre season and then comes back after injury with poor intensity. No longer care if we trade him or not.

Personally I would keep Watts but willing to trade him if we can get Winx in, might teach us how to win after giving oppositions big starts.

Take the emotion out of it when you think about it. Doesn't matter what you thought he would be, and it is all about what that team needs.

Watts is a high HF/wing with elite skills and application issues who played half a dozen great games and half a dozen poor games.

If there is a deal that makes us better of course he would be moved, but he has the skill set we don't have enough of and we would be looking for in this trade window.

Personally, my view is that he doesn't go until we have his positional replacement. We need more players with elite skills not less.

On SEN's crunch time show today Robbo suggested Watts is worth a late second round pick if traded, I dont want to trade him and if thats all we can get for him I will be filthy at the club if they trade him.

Robbo's a muppet. I think he worth an early 2nd round pick.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
