Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

As we've seen from the Essendon doping regime, oversight is never superfluous.  Not even almost.

I think you've missed my point. There can only be one real coach. When there is debate on an issue one will prevail.

That is Goodwin but only the more astute will realise. It gives Goodwin a year where he can learn and mould a team he takes into 2017. Brilliant strategy designed by Jackson.

Good summation. I went to several pre Xmas training sessions and initially didn't recognise him, such is the size he's put on. His acceleration and speed are excellent. He looked to have clean hands, but I noted his kicking a little wayward, particularly under pressure. This obviously can be worked on, he is still young. I liked what I saw of him and that the coaches were encouraging him to take the game on and run. Really look forward to seeing what he does at senior level this year.

The hardest thing for ultra-fast players to do is to kick accurately when they're at top speed. It's just about impossible, especially when they've taken off on a run and are full to the eyeballs with adrenalin. They need to back off full pace and steady just for a fraction of a second before kicking, or they'll almost always spray it. For some reason the guy who sticks in my memory as being really good at this was Billy Goggin. He'd use his pace to break into space, then steady & pick a target, which was usually Doug Wade.

Sitting next to Dion Prestia in a great Japanese restaurant in Surfers.

Think we need a great Japanese restaurant in Melbourne, wink wink.

Looking forward to next year when he'll be attending the training camp. :)

Really looking promising for Hunt, he's one a few have been itching to see in the firsts, including myself. Just another question on him though, his back problems, are they done and dusted i.e. caused by growth spurts, or are they going to be an ongoing concern with constant management?

I'll look to get an answer for you over the next day or two (know the family). Pretty certain back issues are behind him (if you'll excuse the pun).

Viney claims another victim...sort of   "The star midfielder then broke the little finger in his right hand when it connected with teammate Jack Viney's elbow in a training drill in early December."

Vince's comment about gymnastics was insightful: "Vince said a key benefit of gymnastics was practising the art of falling gracefully to reduce the risk of injury when landing".

The preseason footy (and other) skills work must be much more fun than straight fitness work and hopefully it pays off in less turnovers for in season games!

Good news :)

Any word on how Hogan's doing with his running with the increased weight? I read the other day he put on some during the holidays (seemed to be intentional). He was a big unit before, can't imagine him much bigger.

Always thought he looked a little light in the arms department. Might have gained some size there.

My new job is really good, for a job of course, some of the places I have worked didn't give it much competition......get to training now and again, trying for at least once a fortnight, if not more

Choke, watching Hogan train, when he is not having a light day, is frightening, he is a big man now, but his running has not been affected at all, he has put on about another 3 or 4kg, think they want him playing at around 98-100kg, a lot of the players look really strong now compared to past years, there are some serious builds, Kent is another one, he is just solid....and of course the transformation of Hunt, even Matt Jones looks like he has actually toned his sinew

Does anyone read Matt Burgan's diaries on the MFC website?

I got about one paragraph into the first one.

They're pretty terrible. I don't think he could sound more contrived if he tried. The first couple of paragraphs were a cringe fest.

His back seems to be coping with some serious weights, judging from the photograph.  I too am looking forward to him.   He sure has bulked up!

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
