Not to be a smartass but that sounds like the medical team severely underestimated the stage he was at in recovery for this to have happened.

Amazing how Daniel Cross can break his leg and return to the game within the one season, and now Trenners will be out for likely two whole seasons, if not the rest of his career.

(a) keeping an injured player on your senior list and then putting him on your long term injury list and

(b) delisting the player and picking him up as a rookie?

Would there be advantages either way for a club or a player eg room in salary cap etc. (I assume the player gets paid either way).

Wouldn't you have to pay out his final year of the contract (which would be considerably more than a rookie contract spot) then pay him the rookie contract amount? Also, Saints would be able to jump in at pick 1 if they were interested.

Don't think so - if I remember rightly, when we delisted Meesen and Newton when they were contracted, we picked them up on the rookie list without the payout. I don't believe in the rookie list so I prefer he stay on the primary list.

He has called for people to back him, not pity him.

The club that is stuck with him no matter what in 2015 should do just that.

The benefits of not delisting him are not immediate and/or obvious but are plentiful.

Nasher funny you mention Meesen. He had a similar foot problem that did his career in with us just as he put a string of solid games together. If I remember correctly he got a run at first ruck because Jamar had a crook foot as well and some time later Garland had foot stress problems! And we all know of Mitch's lisfranc problem. What is going on down there at AAMI? The curse?

I wanted him to stay but not like this. We have been royally effed by some recent injuries to players who had the ability to take our club up the ladder. Really gutted for Trenners.

I hope he's able to come back from this, but it feels like this is an injury injury you either get right the first time or never at all.

I'm usually an optimist but I feel really sorry for Jack (even if he doesn't want me to!).

I simply can't see the club putting the trade together, actively promoting it like it has gone through, and then being blindsided by an existing injury that presumably he was keeping to himself, or that they ignored.
