2002 SF Dees vs Crows was the craziest game I've seen. Huge momentum swings. We lose, but it was a classic that everyone has forgotten.11 points

Can still remember walking back to the car with my dad, holding his hand and crying my eyes out. I was 29 years old.7 points

I'm with you. Either a lot of people on here have an exceptionally good eye for talent, and are able to glean something meaningful from the most subtle acts on the field, or they're thinking wishfully. Nothing wrong with the latter - we all do it to some degree - but some of the extrapolation seems a bit over-the-top. The thing that most makes me optimistic about Tholstrup is that Jason Taylor chose him. Not too many catastrophic failures on his resume.5 points

Guaranteed star is a very high bar, but I saw plenty to suggest that if he puts the work in the kolt will become an A grader, a star. Smart, good user, good footy iq, good hands - and has the key thing all stars have: x factor. I tgink it easy to be seduced by how quickly players like daicos and Windsor impact at AFL level. But at the end of the day, kolt was in his first season of AFL football. With another preseason under his belt he will go up another level and a 60% damaging small forward, 40% inside mid. Future looks very bright for the kolt IMV.5 points

That was the night Travis Johnstone played one of the best games I’ve ever seen.4 points

I see Kolt a the apprentice to Jack Viney, tough contested relentless… a role that’s challenging until you’ve a couple of pre-seasons under your belt. Kolt loves contest, and has a strut that means he’ll be a team lifter and drawn to nailing his moments. lots to like about him.4 points

Many here seem to think Kolt was a huge tick last year… he’s still a wait and see for me. Windsor ENORMOUS tick, yes, but I didn’t see anything from Kolt which suggested he’s a guaranteed star.4 points

No way we'll go with Trainor. Bookmark it. We just had a Gus experience with concussions.3 points

We made a similar offer for 13 as we did 9. We did what was needed to get the additional first rounder. Perfectly logical that we make a small trade down if the draft board and offers work out.3 points

Thought we gave up all the loose change to move to the premium seats. Would be astounded if 9th would be down grounded. Defies logic. Wednesday fortnight can’t be too far away… …relief is in sight isn’t it?3 points

I’m not sure Brad suggesting we’ll add new players to the midfield is tipping our draft hand - there’s players on the list who are going in to the midfield already, and we’ve long been linked with Tauru. Either North don’t care or they’re willing to call our bluff. For all we know North’s real target might be Armstrong and they’re crying out for us to pick Tauru.3 points

Brilliant on field. great professional. He sustained a really bad injury so I hope he can return to his best for us. needs to find better counsel off field. His solo run to force a trade embarrassed himself and the club. It was never going to happen. I'll forgive him but i won't forget. That said, Kate and Pert have now left so his grievances have been somewhat vindicated.3 points

Or he is not big enough to be an AFL ruckman, but rather a key position player.2 points

Some bold picks and predictions coming in here with Dylan Alexanders mock draft: Has us picking 5. Langfort and 9. Hotton2 points

Surely Kalani White would be the future ruck investment? IF we draft Dodson might it mean we don’t feel he’s coming?2 points

That 2002 Semi Final against Adelaide was the most incredible game i can remember. the momentum swings on the field and in the crowd i will never forget. i remember being devastated at the end….2 points

I never shared any expectation I had of him. You are making that up. I thought his first year was probably in line with what they wanted for him. I just said I don’t understand how people are declaring him a star/150 game player off the back of that first year. I hope he makes it but I think some are overrating his first year.2 points

No. Mark Stevens kicked 4 or 5 goals for the crows in this game from memory. We were 7 goals down at quarter time. Then we had a 28 point lead in the 3rd quarter, it was a 70 odd point turn around in 2 quarters. We ended up losing by 12 points. I do remember Modra kicking 10 against us at the G when he was at Freo though.2 points

There seems to be no intention of Fox replaying any u18 championship games. Every avid footy fan is interested in who their club will pick in 17 days, but all we see on Fox Footy are repeat upon repeat of AFLW games and/or the same 'classic' games ad nauseam. They broadcast the u18 games live so they have them to show. It's just lazy broadcasting. I contacted Fox weeks back to suggest they show them and was told my suggestion would be passed on. Yeah, sure.2 points

Totally agree. I just have little respect for him now, it does appear very much its about himself first, then team second but the fact he went so publicly and ruined our trade period has serious consequences.2 points

Kolt is just a young man, only 19. He has the inner competitive edge that JT often looks for. His energy and strength will be as asset. I see him as a Cam Rayner type, with his start being half forward and then rotation through the midfield as required.2 points

Yep, not saying I don’t like him. Just feel like his first year was overrated by many on here.2 points

I’d love for us to get Smith at 5, but if not available, and Tauru is, I’d be happy for us to take a gamble on him and then with pick 9, take the best available mid.2 points

My memory of Jennings is that he hadn’t played the game at a high level but had studied the game and evolving strategies in great detail. He used to have a regular spot on SEN covering game strategies as I remember and he seemed to know his stuff. I do remember one game in his last season with us where we got up to win a close one and the TV showed Goody in the box, all excited and he gave a sheepish looking Jennings a rub on the head as if to say, “I told you so!”. The thought in my mind at the time was that Goody and Jennings were at odds, the experienced practitioner coach (obsessed with defence & contested ball) had stopped listening to the theoretical (offensive, ball movement) strategist. And at the end of the season he was gone but we did go on to win a flag with Goody’s defensive game plan the next year I think it was. The review, it appears has recognised that our game plan needs changing and that Goodwin needs more resources and as part of that I hope he will be challenged on game strategy and the need to be less defensive to be more offensive.1 point

his on-field leadership was incredible in the first half of the year his off-field leadership in the back half of the year left a lot to be desired1 point

We were 7-5 before the Kings B'day, and then 4-7 from Kings Bday (when he went off early) onwards. We also lost 3 games to top 6 sides by a kick without him. You'd suspect a typical 30 possession 1 goal game from Trac would've gotten us over the line in one or two of those games - particularly the Port game where a piece of brilliance in the dying minutes would have gotten us over the line in a low scoring scrap, given Port were having trouble scoring. On the flipside he was in the team when we put in our two worst performances of the year against the WA sides which proves that he can't do it all on his own when the rest of the side doesn't come to play. I hope his return automatically makes us a 2 win better side than last year.1 point

He did what was reported as an 8 week hamstring at the end of January. https://www.afl.com.au/news/1074000/melbourne-demons-recruit-tom-fullarton-to-miss-start-of-season-due-to-hamstring-injury He made it back for round 1 of VFL which wasn't until 22 March, the same day as our 3rd match of the season. Not saying he will set the world on fire next year, but it's always hard to make an impact after that type of injury.1 point

Lowered his colours this year IMO. Massively lost my respect by the way he has handled himself. No one deserves an injury like he got, but that's no excuse to go rogue.1 point

Kolt is an intriguing one to me also and probably one I'm following a lot more closely than any other recent draftee, I think because we gave up a bit to trade up and nothing about his skill set screams out to me. But I can see something. There's a doggedness about him that's just waiting for his body to catch up. It won't be through lack of trying or passion that he doesn't cement a spot in the 221 point

Assume all of us as supporters are probably feeling like the dumb boyfriend whose done something wrong but can’t quite figure out what it was we did and exactly how to mend that bridge but just hope to hell their love and feelings for us (as well as their contract) entice / coerce / motivate Christian to stay and continue to see a future together. Hope the understanding between the club and Christian are much clearer, clarified and understood - or we’ll only see him in red and blue for one more season.1 point

Probably an impossible ask but it would be nice if club politics was kept to a minimum and we could discuss the attributes this champion footballer when he picked up those 16 Brownlow votes in 2024 and what he can bring into the mix for the Demons of 2025 and beyond.1 point

Wow. Really shows what a freak talent Jake Lever is and how (pardon the pun) well we did to have recruited him over. As an asides, along with loosing Brayshaw, Patracca and an injured Clayton Oliver, being down one and or both of Lever and Steve May really hurt our performances as the season wore on. He's a player you often don't notice when he's there, but it make a huge difference to our defence when he's not. Those critical of our 2024 drop off really do need to take a look at the injuries we copped to key players throughout the year as a moderating factor while making any judgements.1 point

I'm also looking forward to seeing how Blake develops next season. Along with our group of talented under 21's1 point

Did very well with disposal I thought. Was composed and can’t wait to see Blake develop with more bulk and strength. HB or HF he will surprise us all I think with his development. Should aim to play AFL all year in 2025.1 point

Update for McDonald re-signing until 2025. Congratz Tom! Also, was not sure if i should put this here or keep it in it's own thread on the AFLW page, but here is the list contracts for the Women's team please note contract details for the women's team are very hard to find so there may be some inaccuracies here, if you spot anything you believe to be incorrect please let me know :)1 point
