I just spoke with David Schwarz yesterday at work and he told me that Oliver and Trac are already putting in solid work for a big preseason. Oliver not going anywhere. I said to him to watch out for us in 2025! I feel like Melbourne will make a big statement next year.23 points

Adelaide got themselves an absolute bargain. One of the best clubman you can hope for! Wishing Nibbler all the best, he will be sorely missed.16 points

Whilst I agree our comms around tracc and claz has been poor, the length of the two threads has very little to do with the clubs comms and management. The threads might be partly ABOUT those issues, but their length is predominantly a result of posters allowing themselves to dance to the tune of the media. And I don't blame the media in that dynamic. Click bait is demand driven. What ever happened to just waiting to see how things play out, and as much information as is feasible is in the public domain, before making assessments, let alone over the top, hair on fire, where there's smoke henny penny the sky is falling declarations. I wish people would just chill a bit. Like I said about the tracc scenario better to deal with agreed facts than rumours, second hand information and the click bait peanuts like Morris want us to swallow and amplify. And some key agreed facts include: - mutiple players, including young guns and senior leaders, have extended their contracts in the last few months - barring an October surprise, tracc, koz and clarry are playing for the dees in 2025 - unlike several other clubs, only ONE key best 22 player, nibbla, is leaving, and for genuine family reasons at that (unlike say noble leaving the pies, Kennedy wanting out of the blues, the battle drama at the dsaints, pearling leaving gws and Houston leaving port) - Wade Derkson has nominated us as his preferred destination These facts don't mean there aren't issues that need resolution, or there aren't improvements that need to be made. But amplifying the media's club in crisis narrative, or taking the opportunity to pot (insert favorite scapegoat here) is part of the problem not part of the solution. And only hurts the club - a club we all love or else we wouldn't spend so much energy discussing it here.15 points

I’m fairness to Lamb he had Houston until the club self imploded. He’s not got much to work with right now15 points

Honestly, considering recent events, I'd say that retaining all of Petracca, Oliver and Pickett could be considered a successful trade period. Outside of Campbell, I wouldn't be surprised if we continue to look at Derksen and potentially another first round pick and that's all.13 points

Tim Lamb is not being helped by our club being run like a circus. He can approach players and managers. He can make offers. But ultimately if nobody wants to come here, what can he do? We have Houston on the hook, now he’s gone cold on us. We offered Peatling a good deal and he chose Adelaide. It’s a sad state of affairs right now, as we are so far from a destination club.10 points

Oh please.. He's not a kid mate, he's a 27 year old grown adult. Time to start acting like one for once in his life.10 points

Lamb knows how to handle himself in front of a camera. 18 years as a copper, a former Detective Sergeant, state crime squad. Nothing Twomey or any of the other media throw at him will phase him in the slightest. He'll have been on the receiving end of much bigger grillings from the judiciary than anything these guys could throw at him.9 points

I need to take a break from posting as I’ve been overdoing it lately but on Petty you’re not quite right there. Petty’s situation changed, that was the main motivation for signing at MFC, if he’d wanted to see another AFC deal he would’ve waited til much closer to the seasons end. It had nothing to do with ‘tanking his value’, while many at our club are frustrated with him as a forward his value as a defender, which AFC wanted, remains. On Trac, yes it’s possible the club could’ve done better. But it was also a once in a lifetime trauma that changed Trac’s entire outlook and made him reassess. It’s possible that if Kate Roffey sent him a dozen red roses every day in the second half of the year he still asks for a trade, trauma is complex. Oliver came up again largely because we put him up last year as a threat and clubs are still sniffing around and it went viral because the media are after us in the wake of Roffey’s sacking and just generally have been for the last 3 years. Geelong were aggressive and here we are. Clearly the club has problems, our President just left and we have two reviews going. But as someone who works for an organisation in a different industry that copped some negative media treatment in recent years I’ve seen first hand how an organisation painted as a “circus” in the media can just have one or two loose cannons or two feuding individuals and once resolved be revealed to have had a majority excellent culture and dedicated professional environment. It’s never as good as it’s reported, it’s never as bad. I think we need to be careful not to tear our club apart at the instigation of outside forces who either don’t care what happens to us, or have grudges and direct hatred they want sated.9 points

But do a poll on here and ask if you would prefer Houston or pick 5 and >80% would prefer pick 5 I'd guess So might be a blessing in disguise?8 points

Someone needs to buy this man a large vat of alcohol. That was brutal. Imagine being a list manager, and having the club implode around you while you're trying to get deals done.8 points

I think the most likely will be if Richmond decide to spread some of their potential 2024 first round bounty for Rioli, Bolton, Baker et al across into 2025 and bank on us bombing with our F1.8 points

The AFL owes us for keeping the AFL in the news during otherwise dull weeks. Sadly, the reward will probably be getting to play Geelong twice at GMBH next year.8 points

Ignore them paying pick 10 and 34 for Lachie Schultz and giving Ginnivan away for nothing last year.8 points

Sam McClure is on 3AW carrying on that Clarry will still be traded. I wish he would shut up and focus on the other trades going on. He is so full of it 🤮7 points

Nibbler will be missed for sure. Great leader. But I wonder how Adelaide intend on using him? Pick 28 in this draft is not to be sneezed with the talent still available. Good luck to him. His acceptance speech was second only to Brayshaw as far as the messaging went from Friday. Class.7 points

There is also a difference between Petty wanting a trade and the 2 best players in the last 30 years wanting a trade in the same off season. (Just on Petty, his situation changed but he also tanked his value, Adelaide withdrew the offer and tried to low ball him) We should be happy that the club has settled on a course of action. What we shouldn’t be happy about is how we’ve had our logo used as a pin cushion by the media. Unfortunately it’s mostly self inflicted. Trac’s little adventure is well documented. We handled that situation like rank amateurs. Oliver’s situation is similar. We’ve had many opportunities to resolve this months ago but we’ve let things fester. I am happy for people to believe whatever they want in regards to whether it’s the media or player agents or inside sources but let’s all be honest and admit that a lot of these rumours and stories come from the players.7 points

For crying out loud champ, people are allowed to hold their club accountable. And very ordinary to call others ‘maggots’ on here as well. While the media clearly loves stirring the pot about us (I really do hate Sam McClure), there is too much noise for one to stick their head in the sand and think “yeah, everything’s rosy over at Melbourne HQ”. Whether you like it or not, the fact that all of this information has been leaked out to the media, points to an inability of the club to prevent information leakage. That’s an issue of the club and certain people privy to information who won’t keep their damn mouths shut.7 points

If Oliver starts next season with a clear mind and a fit body, the sky is again the limit for him and the team. Same goes for Petracca. So after the trade and draft periods, we could be looking a lot stronger than a disastrous 2024 might suggest. Only big loss from our best 22 so far is ANB, whose running and tackling will be missed. What Clarrie needs right now is total support from everyone at the club to get back to his best.7 points

Personally I thought he played it well. He's not at the club to be a media performer. He answered pretty honestly considering what's been going on. Whether he is the right man for the job should always be up for debate but hanging him for that interview....i don't think so. He didn't "Roffey" it. Feels to me that Pert's walking away unscathed and considering where we find ourselves that's plain wrong imho. I don't think our President and board are up to the job and I hope the reviews point the spotlight firmly in their direction. As for Pert, I hope we're actively looking for a replacement.6 points

Given ANB has left the building, can someone tell me how I change my profile pic and name please??6 points

The thing that annoys me with this trade is Adelaide managed to extract this pick from us for McAdam who has achieved 5% of what ANB has in his career. Think we need to get more ruthless in these negotiations, perhaps ANB is worth Pick 28 but I'll be stuffed in McAdam was.6 points

I don't think it's posturing. GWS has lost the battle (pun intended) on all of Perryman, Cumming and Peatling, and had already given up on Haynes. They're in the window, that’s a lot of support talent to lose in one year and they don't appear to have gained anyone. I suspect they genuinely want to hold Derksen.6 points

That will stay with me forever. I could not believe it. Months later it still irks me.6 points

Who would know whether Melbourne want Oliver or not? They don’t seem to know themselves. From Peter Ryan's article in The Age. Fantastic summary of our position.6 points

I summed up our season using an observation from one of our games. It’ll go over the heads of the people that run the club (wouldn’t have gone over the head of Roos or PJ though). King’s Birthday; shaking Maynard’s hand.6 points

As an aside, congrats to Jessie Hogan on winning the GWS B&F. If you get a chance, watch his acceptance speech - it’s great.6 points

But good list management means you all but disregard a players draft spot the moment the draft is finish. It’s largely irrelevant. Forget draft position, he’s a young tall who’s shown promise at both ends. The better argument is Jeffo is 20 and Wade is 23. So not only has he had more time as a mature body ready to play games he’s also now at the stage where you’re almost harming his career if you don’t get games in to him. That said, he was the one who chose financial security signing on for 2 years at the end of last year knowing he was down the pecking order. He could’ve done a 1 year deal and be guaranteed to be on the way out. Can’t have your cake and eat it too.5 points
