  1. Gerard needs to move on. I’ve heard they did all the assessments and he passed so went back out. He then went downhill after this and so the call was made. The Drs can only work off symptoms, they don’t have a crystal ball that tells them exactly what’s wrong. Let’s not forget they would’ve done the exact same assessment for Steven May against the hawks and he would’ve failed, so was removed immediately.

  2. Oh good, Gerald feels there's enough of a pile on that it's safe for him to jump in too. It is Melbourne after all, not a big club, so he won't get blowback from AFL HQ. Does he really want to bring out the "duty of care" card when this was absent from several incidents of which we've been on the receiving end in recent years? Kicking in danger breaking players hands, low pushes in back tearing players hamstrings, feigning smothers to end a player's career? It's not like in this case a player just waved a doctor away after an obvious head clash, or a club ignored footage of a head clash and didn't follow up with a concussion test, or one of many other instances we've seen of a club's failure to exercise duty of care. We have doctors assessing likely broken ribs and acting accordingly as per the symptoms, including ultimately subbing Trac and sending him to hospital well before the game was over.

  3. Are you a doctor or a risk management specialist? Then your opinion on whether you think it was handled correctly or not is probably irrelevant, because you don't have the expertise to make that assessment. The doctors did the assessment. Petracca passed at first, and subsequently failed and the doctors withdrew him. The process our club doctors followed was review by the AFL medical team and ticked off as the appropriate process. Anything else is people with no actual knowledge making judgement calls on what they saw fro. The stands, and not relevant.

  4. You absolutely have to give credit to Richmond supporters today. 92,000 is a huge effort, especially given how uncompetitive they've been all season.

  8. The Swans are a talented team, but they are just having one of those seasons where it all really clicks - like us in ‘21, Cats in ‘22, and Pies last year. They have the confidence of a team who are having their year.

  9. I was thinking of forwards at Casey. We recruited Fullarton from Brisbane who didn't seem to want him. He had been on their list for 3 years without a game in the seniors. He was easily our best forward last week at Casey I think he got 3 goals. He is 25 It is time to play him against North. If not then why is he on our list? He is way better than Jefferson. Never a better time, we are playing the last team on the ladder with one win.

  12. Thankyou for showing it as abundantly clear. Notice a number of things. He makes no attempt to turn body away from collision... he does protect his own head though... he pushes the bulk of his frame directly into Brayshaw. He lifts his knee also. Anyone thinking this was just a "football" act is kidding themselves.

  13. 100990090000000 x this ^^ put another way - had this been a hit by Green(T)/ take your pick on Daicos with similar outcome it’d have been 8 weeks anyone thinking this was not a Collingwood protection racket event by the AFL needs to think harder again, our club absolutely [censored] the bed on the PR side by not having Roffey or pert right behind Daicos and Maynard at quarter time to get on the record with channel 7 about our expectations for the length of suspension for what was clearly a reckless and avoidable act I’ll never forget that

  14. Gee just over 92,000. Just goes to show how much dusty is loved and respected. Also the hawks are playing well to. That's more than what carlton/Collingwood & carlton/essendon got.

  18. I seriously am wondering what some think AFL footy is about. It's actually a highly competitive, COMBATIVE, phyical game played withfurious intent. What it is NOT , is a Sunday afternoon Social with Tea and Scones. There's nothing wrong with having a Devonshire with your 'bestie' from anothr club .What you do out of hours is fine...couldn't give a rats but come time you don the Jumper and cross that line and you're playing for the club then it has to be a no holds barred full on encounter . You're not out there to make friends.. Do that in your own bloody time please. I can only wonder what the likes of Grinter, Biffin, Ditterich, Whelan would have made of that !! ( to only mention a few) Ol' Ronald Dale would be livid I should think... A very fair player....but by golly he wouldn't have stood for that rubbish...as he was indoctrinated that your "Melbourne First" as you ought to be.

  20. Why does anyone give a FF what Whateley or any other mouth for hire thinks about our club?
    5 points
  21. The club and doctors don't need to provide a public explanation of the medical risk management procedures they followed (which is what you are I playing when you say open and transparent ). The public wouldn't understand those procedures anyway. The club doctors have been open and transparent with the only people who have the expertise and authority to review them - the AFL medical team. And they ticked off the club doctors approach. That should be story over. Asking for risk management proceuto be public laid out so a lay person who doesn't understand them can critique them isn't helpful.

  26. Sometimes, in specialist areas like this (and like vaccines, and other medical advice, etc) we need to trust that maybe, just maybe, reading about something in a newspaper doesn't make us qualified to comment on whether it was best practice or not.

  27. At the risk of offering a contrary view I agree with his comments. He not saying it was the wrong decision but rather requires an open and transparent explanation of the steps taken to determine Trac health. For one did the medicos check the vision of the incident. Any view of that tape would have made the risk of rib injuries pretty obvious. By extension if it a rib injury and you can’t see it logic would require a deeper scan to be undertaken. As stated by Eddie Maguire a basic CT machine would cost $80k and take the guess work out of this. A small price to pay for certainty rather than educated guess work. Why doesn’t a ground like the MCG have one? The fact that Pies players were questioning Trac and not tackling further undermines the claims there nothing to see here. I don’t see this as a Dees issue but whole of AFL issue.

  30. Ive attended/watched footy since a lil tacker of 5. First games in 1965.. This just for context. Teams under Smithy were hard at it . You didn't get a guernsey if you even looked like a shirker. The respect you gave the jumper and the preparedness to do the TEAM thing was just a given. Through the decades we've had out fair share of hard nuts. We've had our champions and a lot of hard-workers . Not all so talented but very few grifters. Success ...not so much. Even in the dourest of days the effort was honest. But if one of ours was felled... look out. FF to now...yeah ....not so much Back when we were DEMONS .. NO ONE....and i mean NO ONE would have shook Maynard's hand... the best he would have received would have been a non-idle reminder !! These other teams don't go away these days thinking we're a tad soft. Sadly they KNOW it.

  31. I watch it from behind the goals Red and the errors, flaws and poor craft stand out like the proverbial. 👉🏼 Lack of separation 👉🏼 STILL too many going up together with no one down 👉🏼 Three seasons and Kozzy is still going for speckie of the year. Often spoiling his team mate in the process and also not there for the crumb. Unforgiveable this is still happening after that long. 👉🏼 Most or all forwards running away from a pressured ball carrier coming through the middle or off a wing far too often. Doesn't always happen but it's far too often. Under this scenario the pressured kicker will often dump it shallow straight into the basket of an oppo defensive sweeper who has read the play better. 👉🏼 Attempting to play small mediums or mediums at true CHF for serious minutes. I understand you have to try things and mix things up. Present a diff look and test your opponents. But this is a tactic that should be a rare surprise if standard structures arent't working. Not a regular 'go to'. 👉🏼 Smalls, Mediums & even HF - Mids running into the leading lanes of designated hit ups disrupting their attemps to mark on a lead. I've seen (from behind the goals) Fritta & Melk (last season) yelling in frustration a number of times for rookies and seasoned players to get the hell out. 👉🏼 Non desgnated hit up forwards do not provide enough blocks / chop outs in general in order to assist marking forwards gain space / time on their opponents. 👉🏼 Not enough dumby leads by non designated stay-at-home forwards in order to clear out the forward 50 for pack crashing / marking forwards and crumbers like JVR & Kozzy. The only players with genuine leading patterns and / craft ... BBB & Melk ... when playing Fritta... when he decides to bring it That's just from recent memory. You see a fair bit from behind the goals that you don't see from the wing on the box.

  32. Despite being a premiership player with 200+ games Maynard will only be remembered for one thing. Even of one believes his action was legitimate, which I personally find laughable, it will define him for years to come. We all know that Greg Chappell Was a superb batsman however the average punter remembers the underarm incident. This will be Maynard's legacy which barely compensates for ruining a stars career.

  34. Gerard Whateley’s take on Petracca incident Apologies if this has been posted previously, but quite a damning article by Gerard Whateley on the duty of care that appeared to be absent last Monday. According to him, Collingwood players (Moore and Crisp) were concerned enough to ask Christian if he should be on the field. If true, this is a shocking indictment on our club and certainly does not help with the litany of other stuff that has been swirling about recently. I’m beginning to wonder if our fitness program/ethos, whereby you build resilience by playing through injury has started to take its toll. It feels as though the players are being told that their mental and physical well-being comes before everything, yet clearly several of them are banged up. I wonder if this is creating disillusionment within the playing group?

  36. Fullarton scared of contact Did you see last week's game. He is 25 if we don't play him after a good game last week with 3 goals why the hell is he on our list. Petty has been poor for weeks why is he still in the team? Hmm an error 1 goal 1. 101 dream time points.

  37. Time to replay the 2021 GF perhaps Trac is thrown all over the place because is so good he can play basically any position - his consistency is pretty damn good Not saying Bont couldn’t play any position because he’s that good he probably could too - fact is with their depth of forwards he doesn’t have to sit in front of incoming knees like Trac 😢

  38. Three months is a lifetime ago? Ok. Lets agree it is. And therefore our spanking of the dogs has no current relevance. Then by the same logic September is also a lifetime away. And if our win over the dogs has no relevance then neither does our loss to freo in terms of our chances come finals.

  39. Tholstrup, McAdam/Sestan, AMW should’ve all been picked ahead of Laurie, Billings, Howes and a focus in the offseason has to be finding a couple of mongrels. We miss Vanders, he set the tone.

  41. Just watched the incident for the first time. I have absolutely no doubt that Moore went in with the knee as the primary action, then the spoil followed. Disgraceful. Lost all respect for the jerk.

  42. Gerard loves when there’s a high horse he can climb on. No one owes him an explanation, the AFL has reviewed it and found no issues, Trac and his family need to be satisfied he’s been looked after and everyone else can GAGF. Talk of installing a CT scanner at the G is rubbish, the epworth is literally across the road. Half a mil plus for a machine, plus operators, plus software, plus to have a CT they need to inject contrast dye and so forth - if a scan is needed get them to hospital which is what happened.

  43. I genuinely hope that Petty finds some good form but I won't hold my breath He's played around 11 games fwd this year and with the exception of a very good game against Geelong the other 10 have been well below standard. At what stage will Goody simply have to make a change? Or does Petty just continue to play out the rest of the season in his current form? Surely a change of moving him down back or dropping him will eventually have to take place.

  44. Dr’s used to send players back on with concussions back in the days. It’s about learning & getting better.

  45. Absolutely. I’m not suggesting anyone getting suspended for blindly punching or felling Maynard. Gus doesn’t get to dictate how we play the game. It was a statement game and we failed. Do you think that’s what Gus wanted? When Langdon gave his all duck no dinner shot 3 or 4 pies tackled him legally to make a statement and they rolled us. Watching Petracca shake his hand made me mad as I knew then we weren’t up for the fight.

  47. Gus coaching now ?? This isnt just about Gus... it's about the jumper....about what as a team you're prepared to take. Apparently we indentify as marshmallows...fuschias....happy campers.....all smiles and backslaps....woohoo. Strangely another club....and coincidentally the same one , took offence ( rightly so ) to "all duck and no dinner" and let it's uttererer know all a out it. The only thing more sickening than Gus getting maliciously flattened.. was anyone being nicey nicey to the filth before tge game, in full view of many thousands of Melbourne Supporters. What you do down the pub at the cafe is up to whomever. If youre wearing that jumper believe me there's an expectation to honour it and your team mates. No one's respecting our jumper .

  48. Imo it’s becoming clear that we need a refresh of assistant coaches. We just look soooo stale and fumbly and out of synch. We all love choco but tbh our kicking around the ground and for goal has never been worse. fwd coach ? midfield coach? Goody is a keeper for mine.

  49. I’m just wondering if we might put players in their natural positions as a crazy idea. Lingers on the wing instead of half forward. Petty and Disco in the backline instead of reinventing as forwards Sparrow in the middle instead of a wing. Put some of the players brought to the club as tall forwards / ruck chop out actually in that position - they could not be less effective than what is there now, Roo excepted.
