Questions ranged from frustration with the fixture to why didn't we chase kpfs in the trade period/why couldn't we kick straight. Pert acknowledged frustrations with the fixture and what it could cost Dees in dollar value ($1-$1.5 million potentially), but one win was not travelling to Geelong. Doesn't know why we have been disproportionately fixture there more than others, to the extent that we'd actually asked the Cats whether they were requesting a home game against the Dees every year (they say they haven't). Re: kpfs, Lamby did say they'd jump if Tom Lynch was available, but there weren't any possibilities that were better options than Petty (he was effusive on what he could bring over a full season up forward), and given we'd gone tall in consecutive drafts (Roo & Jefferson), want to see how they come on. I relayed a question from my daughters on what we can expect to see from Riv and Sparrow, Goody said Tom 'oozes leadership' and they're excited to see how his game builds this year, Riv is building and we can expect to see him in midfield more and more, his speed and agility through the middle will give us a different look. Selwyn Griffiths mentioned a bit later on that something seemed to have really clicked for Riv last season in terms of mindset and that he's ready for more midfield minutes. Overall I enjoyed the event, there was really good access to the key decision makers at the club, and the greatest value (imo) came after the formal proceedings when all staff were available for an individual chat. Given my obsession with all things draft, it was great to chat to Lamby about the recent draft period. Didn't give away a whole lot that wasn't already out in the public domain, but it was clear that we really liked Nick Watson and my impression was that after Harley, Watson was the guy we were targeting. The clubs ahead of us just wanted too much. There wasn't really much of a conversation with WC for a future 1st, that might have been exaggerated in the media (re:offer for our pick, likely a different story at the GWS pick). We talked about Windsor and when we developed an interest (noting the media only tied him to us relatively late). Lamby didn't know how it got out to the media (!), but said that Jase Taylor was a fan of Windsor coming into the year and we probably landed on him (a lot) earlier in the process than when we were eventually linked. Spoke to Pert afterward, and on the new facilities, he is excited about the possibility of having 3 ovals (2 at Caulfield) for our various AFL & VFL sides to have access to. With the introduction of the VFLW & AFLW, maintenance of ovals has become a challenge, so (exclusive) access to three ovals would be terrific for players across the 4 teams. Whilst the announcement was for a feasibility study, Pert did say a lot of work has already been done and that we're a significant way down the track. Reading between the lines, the study is a tick, but we may be closer to really locking in the facility than we have been. That the location would be in traditional Demon heartland was a point of pride.10 points

Main factor in all this, is what is available. Clearly the whole concept is attainable at Caulfield, whereas it probably isn’t at Port Melbourne. I am pretty sure while fans convenience might be a minor factor, it is only a minor one and the main one is what is actually available and attainable. We therefore don’t need to waste time convincing everyone, that more Dees fans live near Caulfield than Port Melbourne, even though it’s a no brainer. I can’t wait to stand next to you, while you are doing your training reports from the fantastic new MFC training base at the Racecourse and then sharing a coffee with you nearby.9 points

We knew this was coming, when they let him off. Now as an eternal pessimist, I can see the first club affected will be the Dees.6 points

Hey @jayceebee31, hope you're well mate. Griffith spoke to our injuries in his presentation. Mentioned that we lost 119 games to injury this year, the league average was approx 151, and 87% of our list were able to complete the season without significant injury whilst being one of the hardest two way running teams in the comp. Clarrie was a high profile soft tissue injury, but a good percentage of the rest of our injury list comprised of collision type injuries (noting T Mac's injury was related to carry over foot issues and Ben Brown's knee was preexisting and managed well last year, but back issues arose during the season for him as well), where trauma (e.g. tackle related) resulted in the injury. We did some analysis on these, in particular foot and ankle. To the point that what shoes players wear were analysed and adjusted accordingly. A large part that can't be accounted for in those trauma related injuries is luck. We had some bad luck, particularly in one area of the ground which REALLY hurt us, but overall the results for the fitness program were positive.6 points

No such luck, no press pass for the devil. All the result of the glass. I had to find a descent hole in the fence that gave me a clear view without cyclone wire. The guy on the gate was not going to entertain letting me in.5 points

@Nascent Gippsland Power Ricky Mentha: X-Factor is the best way to describe Mentha. The boy from the Northern Territory loves a goal and doesn’t just rely on his forward craft to impact on the field. Mentha is an electric player who pounces on the loose ball inside 50 and can daze opponents on the fly. At 180cm, he’s also able to generate run and drive through the corridor and present as an agile midfielder at times. A lot of polish to be added, but it’s hard to miss him with his engaging style of footy.5 points

Bailey Laurie has completely trimmed down. There have certainly been talk that he's been carrying some puppy fat, but looks like he's worked incredibly hard this off season. Taj Woewodin looks in ridiculous shape for 20 year old kid.5 points

It's not like you to be a touch over the top in your posts, Picket! Should the club look for a site within 1km of your house? After all, your pulitzer worthy training reports are what we all want!4 points

What a well-spoken kid he is, seems mature beyond 18 and very level headed. I like that he's not much into social media. And not a single "yeah nah", "like" or "y'know" to be heard! Hope his on-field is as impressive as his off-field Thanks for sharing the interview4 points

yeah whatever mate. Thats ridiculous. Caulfield is a way better option for players, fans with cars, people who go by train, cyclists. Pretty much everything. No brainer4 points

Kates letter has fired me up to the extent that I have Voted for the incumbents, I say bring it on. Caulfield isn’t close to Doreen but it’s a hell of a lot closer than Casey. This is about the Club having a legitimate home with Elite facilities in our life time or at least our children’s and I am all for that.4 points

Kicking off the 2024 thread with a round up from today’s Herald Sun online edition of each club’s current injury lists:- MELBOURNE Clayton Oliver - Has been in the rehab group after having surgery on his knee in the off-season. He has been doing sprint work and some lighter skill based activities and is expected to ramp up his training in the new year. Angus Brayshaw - Has returned to training but still non-contact for now as he continues his recovery from the sickening concussion occurred in the finals series. Impressed in the Dees 2km time trial. Harrison Petty - The defender is still recovering from a foot injury which ended his season early. He remains on a modified program but will join the main group post-Christmas. Bayley Fritsch - The forward is still being managed after twice hurting his left foot in the second half of the season. He had surgery to repair a fracture in the foot after the first incident in round 16. Fritsch is expected to join main training in January. Jake Melksham - The forward will look to begin running again in coming weeks after rupturing his ACL in the final round of the home-and-away season. However, the 32-year-old still faces a long road to recovery.3 points

This is my last demonland post. As we all know demonland can be wonderfully addictive! But I've decide to reduce my use of on-line forums, social media and Apps. Can't tell you how much I've enjoyed my time on here over the years. Thanks to everyone for your debate, support, laughs and banter, especially those I've got to know through messenger. Wishing you all the very best. Travel well, demonlanders. To a 2024 Flag 🥂 Cheers, Luci Edit: I've sent a copy of the Contracts Excel worksheet to Andy. If anyone would like to volunteer to continue with it I'm sure he and demonlander's would apperciate it. It is very easy to maintain; it is but a simple table.3 points

Super impressed that he's staying with the Vineys and that Kolt is keenly watching Jack's habits on and off the field. Thank god that the old days are gone when Chunk was our only mature leader. Our club is now bursting with leadership players3 points

That’s great, I am currently on a cruise, eating myself into oblivion and you offer me vanilla slices. Btw, I can’t walk to Casey.3 points

It’s Crown land that’s administered by a trust formed by the department of environment. They lock people out on race days and when horse training occurred on track the public was banned before 9:30, but I’d be very surprised if the public aren’t allowed in. The walking and cycling tracks are key components to the redevelopment.3 points

That's Harvey Langford. He's a Dandenong Stingrays player who is training with the club for exposure. He's touted as a high pick.3 points

I am intrigued by people commenting on how easy or not it will be to go training etc Has anyone considered that as soon as the club can conduct training in private they will. Just look at current training at Casey. They can lock people out so they do. Easy access to Caulfield probably means you will get a few dates a year. I go to training 2 to 3 times a year. Won't go to Caulfield because it is "too" far. However it will be great for the players and that is what counts.3 points

Doing draft research earlier in the year I came across two names that were in the NT academy. Ricky Mentha and Clay Shadforth. Could be one of these two. I haven't been able to ascertain if either are part of our NGA, or any names for that matter.3 points

I was about to comment about Pickett looking ripped and then got to the pictures of Rivers. Body transformation stuff. Bowey also doing the Dustin Fletcher style sinewy muscle, so presumably we can expect another 30+ years of good football from him.3 points

Thanks for posting, my photos never work. 2 ovals and 2 soccer fields would be great for our teams to find ‘fresh ground’. Precinct 6 seems to be the one for our facilities from reading it. Long, skinny site. Might end up landlocked but hopefully not. Unobstructed views to the North/East. Precinct 5 is the interesting one. A few trees to navigate but not impacted by the race course at all. I suspect the council will want that one for basketball and other indoor sports. But we can get facilities to share without footing the entire bill for it.3 points

Old 6 whether you’re the beneficiary of a press pass or you’ve hit the sweet spot and shooting with some very nice teleglass. The resulting pictures capture the action moments fluidly. Cheers!3 points

you'd be wrong i posted earlier in this thread i'm fairly certain, but a 2015 sun study said these were our top 10 supporter suburbs: https://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/interactive-footy-fan-map-afl-clubs-membership-heartlands/news-story/4ceb4875ecacd1b3b04eade7b2dc620b Glen Iris Brighton Hawthorn Toorak Caulfield East Camberwell Richmond Malvern Kew Black Rock (list source via reddit cos the sun's map is borked) it may have shifted slightly since 2015, but as a stonnington resident, the whole of glen iris, malvern, toorak was decked out in dees colours in 2021 it was glorious3 points

Caulfield per se may not necessarily be 'Demon Heartland' but nearby areas like Malvern, Malvern East, Glen Iris, Ormond, McKinnon, Bentleigh, Murrumbeena etc most definitely are. If you were to pick which LGAs have a really strong concentration of MFC Members/Supporters I would say Stonnington and Glen Eira would be top of the list.3 points

I just watched Alan Richardson, Simon Goodwin, Selwyn Griffith and Tim Lamb, they are leaving no stone unturned in attempting to make us a better football club. I love the holistic approach to football.❤️💙3 points
