Correct. And then [censored] like Chris Doerre, AKA Knightmare, to do their post draft club grades, such as this one for Collingwood in 2019: Collingwood Improved their draft hand slightly in the latter half of the draft to increase their involvement without losing a lot. Jay Rantall represents strong value as a basketball convert with elite endurance who does his best work inside winning the contested ball, distributing by hand and moving through traffic. Oakleigh premiership captain Trent Bianco is a second selection who represents strong value as one of the best kicks in the draft and the most advanced outside player in the pool. Trey Ruscoe at 192cm with his versatility to play defence, midfield or forward, is a third solid selection with his skills, mobility, ball winning capabilities and the way he reads the ball in flight and takes marks. Though the question of whether Collingwood should have retained pick 51 to draft key forward Jake Riccardi rather than trade it to GWS who used the pick to draft the VFL's Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal is a question that will be asked given Collingwood's lacking key position stocks. Grade: A None of those 3 players are today on an AFL list. In the same draft he gave Melbourne a C for drafting Jackson, Pickett and Rivers, which was his equal worst ranking. Outside of the Suns, who had picks one and two, Melbourne clearly were the best performed club in that 2019 draft. Or this club ranking from Fox Sports for the same draft. CARLTON Picks (at start of draft): 9, 43, 57, 70, 85 Selections: Brodie Kemp (17), Sam Philp (20), Sam Ramsay (47) Stephen Silvagni was making plenty of moves on the opening night of the draft, with a bidding frenzy causing Fremantle and GWS to move on Liam Henry and Tom Green respectively. Brodie Kemp was the big steal for the Blues, landing the potential top-five prospect with Pick 17. They added more midfield speed with the selection of snubbed Vic Metro prospect Sam Philp. Calder Cannons midfield Sam Ramsey rounded out their selections, with the inside midfielder averaging 25.2 disposals this year. Grade: A Only the 23 gamer Kemp remains in the system notwithstanding the A they were given. This is supposedly a ''shallow'' draft, but to me, albeit a novice, it looks as good as just about any year and the top end talent better than most. Excited for tomorrow night. EDIT: I called Doerre an i.d.i.o.t. To think that word is censored in this day and age. I deplore the society we've become.14 points

Alright you’ve convinced me - trade 6, 11, 42 and a F1 to the Eagles for pick 1 Then take Windsor at 113 points

I think it’s important to note that there’s a difference between ‘didn’t’ win much contested footy and ‘can’t’ win contested footy. Windsor played wing all year and appears to have done so with a lot of discipline. That role will inevitably result in a low contest rate if it’s played properly. When it’s his turn to go he does win contests and I think that the 30% contest rate needs to be considered in this context. If he played as a true mid the numbers might mean something but for a wingman it doesn’t make much sense. The impressive thing about Windsor isn’t just his speed but his ability to use that speed properly. He makes quick decisions to carry the ball and get it forward before teams can set their defence, which is super valuable against disciplined AFL teams. He also uses his speed to defend and is very disciplined. He already plays the game at AFL tempo. He’s a very impressive footballer.11 points

Too much back slapping celebrating winning McCallin Cup, club posting early in the AFLW season on the highest % … 1st final posting during the game of a player getting 15 possessions and they hadn’t kicked a goal! Goodwin @ B&f saying he could smell a premiership…. Club needs to shut up and let their footy do the talking in both men’s & women’s teams!8 points

What I find myself doing (since mid year) is getting sucked into the 'talk' of who's the best draft prospect etc, etc. I then find myself disappointed we may not get A or B or even C! Then I look at our track record as a club and realise, they know a helluva lot more than me, and most other clubs. As has been said by many of the more rational posters. We have to trust Jason and the people involved here. They have a proven track record. I wait and will applaud whatever they do Monday.7 points

We lost the same amount of finals in 2023 that we played in the period of 2003 to 2017 inclusive. Yes I'm disappointed we didn't win and I think we should have done better. But I'd rather have a team I can enjoy watching, who competes pretty well, that what we've had in the past.6 points

0-4 Home Finals for no Result Great Year for the Club. Shameful actually Show up for the last quarter too much bath water Let’s not sugarcoat any of this 0-4 = 20236 points

Or our club just doesn't have the right mentality at the moment. The talent and potential is there, something weird is going inside the club when it comes to facing finals.6 points

A lot of similarities with the girls end of 23 with the boys 22. Untimely injuries. Poor depth. Game plan figured out. Mucked up the first final. Nearly won the second at the end. But it’s damn hard to back up a flag Not sure it’s similar to the men’s issues this year (which was mostly no forward line and no dash). You lose more finals than you win. Got to analyse why the Brisbane game rattled them and fix the midfield problems but I’m confident the girls will front back up. Need some quality list management tho.5 points

We beat Geelong in Geelong comfortably and North nicely. Nearly beat Adelaide with a stirring comeback. Everything went well until the final round and we’ve been hopeless since. Some injuries are a factor. Lost continuity in the second half of the year and missing Sherrif (best pressure forward) and Lampard. Eliza West has looked heavy legged all year and she’s our best inside bull. Backline has had vulnerable moments with the Birch birching, Gay battling injuries and the pace of the game catching Goldy out. But really I think Brisbane rattled them with physicality and they haven’t recovered. Rather than step up to the physicality that finals require they’ve shirked it. Non stop panicking, terrible work rate and the skills are a mess.5 points

So the Demons starting slowly, @Clintosaurus complaining about the umpiring and @DeeSpencer sticking the boots into Libby Birch. Business as usual, then.5 points

We gave a done a great job in confusion, so no one really knows with any certainty, who we are likely to take. I still think though, that if WC are willing to swap 1, we will be the most likely recipient.5 points

Because the media know nothing after the first bunch of names each year, in fact some years they barely know them. Early mocks had Oliver at 15ish. No one had Jackson top 3. No one had Pickett in the first round. The media cottoned on to our interest in Windsor, slotted him at 11. Maybe all along he's been the 6th best name on our board. We'll find out on Monday5 points

Couldn’t agree more. Massive fan of Mick and what he has done with this group but I think he had a poor finals series. Questionable team selection, apparent change of forward structures. So frustrating to constantly see forwards push so far up the ground with nobody at home.Allowing so many uncontested marks throughout the finals series was inexcusable. Allowing opposition to play spares behind the ball and not counter that cost us as we kept turning the ball over. Not employing a tag on Geelong midfield until Goldy went in there. List needs a bit of a shake up it will be an interesting off season for our AFLW program. I also strongly believe that not playing at Casey today also cost us a win today, I may be on my own on that. I realise for many it is not a popular ground but it is our home ground and the facilities for players are excellent the weather conditions variable but advantage to us. One that got away unfortunately.4 points

If Loz Pearce could kick she’d be the games best player by a mile. Thought she’d done it with that snap for a second. Great fight back by Zanker. Huge last quarter by Goldy on ball. I really think they’re were shell shocked by Brisbane and took 7 quarters to realise how to get the balance between contest and spread right.4 points

How is Bannon going? Could she actually be more frightened of a contest? Get her on the wing where she can run.4 points

Yeah. 1, it's draft tampering. You can't delist guys just so another team can pick them up for draft picks. That's what the trade period is for, and there's no way the AFL will let it through. 2, no way do we get 1 and 7 for 6, 11, 42 and our F1. And WC won't give up 1 and their future first for 6, 11 and what are likely to be 2 other late first round picks next year. 3, Woey is a father/son. You don't do that to F/S picks4 points
-
Here is another scenario. If Curtin is there at 6, we trade it for WC F1 and it would get us Ben King, if he left GC next year. Then if possibly Petty insists on a trade home, we pick up a couple of first rounders to go with our own and we are back in next year's draft in a big way, or in a great position for further trading. Fun and games coming up over the next 24 hours.4 points

Funny that in one of our best draft hauls in recent history, the media immediately criticised us for having “reached” on both Jackson & Pickett.4 points

A cliff seems like the perfect analogy. I'm perplexed. It wasn't just the opposition, we were playing amazing footy in the first half of the season. Our drop off across all lines is just mind blowing.3 points

How can they call themselves a Draft expert if they aren't across the players? Do they just have really in depth knowledge of how the draft works? Pick 2 comes after pick 1, but before pick 3. Oh my word, I'm a draft expert!3 points

We will learn a bit about the group today, hoping there are not too many scars from last week. Glad to see Westy back and Purcell starting in the middle. Hoping to see plenty of overlap run and switch kicks to get our running game going. Also really want us to hold our shape a bit more. For me our forwards have been pushing too high up the ground and wingers drifting to the wrong side of the ground. Let’s get back to playing our roles, let the bulls win the ball on the inside and get the ball on the outside and spread. Forwards have got to play in front this week and make any loose players in our forward line accountable. We can’t afford to go into our shells for this game, be brave and take the game on. Think we will have too much firepower for Geelong, as much as today is about getting the win we need to send a message to the rest of the competition but also reinforce to ourselves that we are good enough and can go back to back if we play our brand of football.3 points

There’s a lot more to recruiting that meets the eye. The top recruiters spend a great deal of their time on due diligence, interviewing the players they fancy, their families, coaches, school teachers etc in order to establish as thorough a profile of their target as possible. I don’t have that information but on what I’ve seen of his footy skills and prowess, I would be happy to see his name come up at pick 6 if that indeed, is our first pick on Monday night.3 points

Isaac Weetra played 2 games and he was absolutely not AFL standard. His standard right now is VFL level where he plays well but he hasn't adjusted to AFL standard. Let's not tip toe around this. Unfortunately Laurie was badly exposed when given a decent run against Collingwood. Even in the games he played this year he showed nothing to suggest he'll make it. Coming up to his 4th year on the list. He'd wanna really show a stack of improvement over the off season. I aqually hope he does, because I like him.3 points

Yeah I've changed my tune on Watson (have already acknowledged this on here..) After assessing our list deep and thoroughly the outside speed and carry is a significant hole. My Watson comment was also suggested on thr back of talk that Spargo could be looking at a trade potentially. After going over a bit more in depth I felt that midfield depth especially outside run was a genuine need we had to fill. Langdon is 28 next year and not getting any better and has had 2 poor years whilst Hunter will be 29 and slowing down. He had a poor back half of the year as evident of finishing outside the top 10 of the best and fairest. After those two we have no one else under the wings that boast the same running power and speed as what Langdon has. Like literally no one.. we obviously rate wingman highly as part of our game plan hence why we went and gotten Hunter but recruiting Windsor just reassures our depth. Windsor's high work rate alongside his speed and running power fits a greater need for us. Speed is where the game is going and it's no coincidence that after watching GWS and Collingwood over the finals series l, they've set the benchmark of being able to provide speed and power from half back and especially on the outside. Windsor just makes a whole lot more sense in terms of talent but also topping up our depth. I see him being a Lachie Whitfield/Isaac Smith type wingman for us.3 points
