Unbelievable. The guy got us 2 facilities we sold for millions, I think in the order of $30m and personally threw in $2.7m of his own and you are having a go at him, for not begging the members for money, for a facility, that several previous and post MFC Boards have promised and to this point have failed to deliver. Wow!9 points

I think it's unfair for you to project avarice onto Ben Brown who is one of the most ethical and giving AFL footballers going around. If he thinks he can go on to to fulfil his contract and make a contribution then I'm inclined to trust him. What exactly should Tim Lamb have done differently? We secured Brown on a very reasonable contract and at a low trade price and he was instrumental in our 2021 flag win. I'm not sure how Lamb can force Brown to retire especially when we have to pay him under the 2024 cap anyway. We've got 4 remaining list spots and we've already made 3 changes. That's reasonable. We can take Kynan Brown if we rate him sufficiently - let's see what happens before "wetting your pants".8 points

Have I missed something. "He has been recruited by the Dockers. Good on him." doesn't seem dismissive. What do you expect? A binman style 3 part 20 page narrative on why OMac got picked up.7 points

I don't think you can use that arithmetic methodology directly on this issue. Following that logic, it would be better to have O.Baker (4/10), S.Weideman (4/10), K.Turner (2/10), D.Smith (2/10) and F.Rosman (2/10) than C.Petracca (10/10). The point is that Petracca and Reid (allegedly) are in a whole higher echelon than all those other players.6 points

You think he acted alone without the Board. It was 90% actually, $2.7m of $3m, still the biggest single donation ever given to the club. What revenue streams back then, would have got us the $30m approx he left us, for Bentleigh and Oakleigh, plus his $2.7m. What have the last few Boards added to what he left us? He may not have been the President I personally wanted, but his contribution to the MFC was huge, in addition to helping save the club from a merger, which would have seen a different club today.5 points

Read every single word at the top of every page and respect this difficult decision. You aren’t the one with your ass on the line.5 points

Once everything is in the public domain, the dynamics change. I find it interesting there is no discussion allowed considering Goodwin and Pert were interviewed on Radio…5 points

Wrong. He had already put up a couple of Million dollars to stop the club going broke. The club had no money and it was too much to expect him to stump up more. Without him the club would have folded.5 points

Also don't forget our poor culture. It's why Clarry and Trac are top 5 for votes but no Brownlow to show for it. Poor poor culture.5 points

Well done to him and complete respect for coming back and rehabbing a seriously horrific back injury. The need to cut down ex players is really sad. He has worked his behind off to get a third opportunity and I wish him all the absolute best, even if I despise Freo and want to see them fail.5 points

Curious as to why OMc is being ridiculed here. Good luck big fella, hope you get to 100 games.5 points

Most of you won't know that I produce the TikToks for the Demon Army. Most of you also won't know I'm on the committee for the Ruby Demons. Today I got to combine both those roles. Ruby Dees were invited by MFC to represent Dees fans at the AFLW Pride Round launch at IKON. All 10 Victorian clubs were represented, and I made a TikTok of the morning. Plus it also meant Katie, Nikki and I got to hang out with the always wonderful Blaithin Mackin, who is an absolute delight. Hope you enjoy!4 points

I am. I’m very wary of any player that can’t have an impact unless placed in a primary midfielder role. This is exactly why I’d choose Leake over Sanders - Leake has demonstrated an ability to have a critical impact wherever he has been positioned on the field. Just pure footy ability.4 points

Adelaide are the club showing most interest to Darcy Wilson and could grab him at pick 10.4 points

Congrats to Libby Birch on 75 games! 🌈 And a happy Pride Round to all 🌈 Michael Voss Oval win-loss record: Brisbane 2-3; Melbourne 1-0 Melbourne's win-loss record against Brisbane: 6-2 (Melbourne last played Brisbane in the 2022B Grand Final, a 4-point win) Selected teams avg. games experience: Melb 46.4; Bris 43.3 2023 formline comparison: Brisbane 6 wins (2nd, 3rd, 6th, 8th, 14th and 17th); 3 losses (9th, 10th and 12th) Melbourne 8 wins (3rd, 7th, 10th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 18th); 1 loss (2nd) Both played Adelaide (Melb -10; Bris +3); North (Melb +23; Bris +2); Collingwood (Melb +42; Bris -5) and Hawthorn (Melb +59; Bris +27) If we take the field as selected, the following 14 players will have played all 10 H&A games in 2023: Bannan, Birch, Goldrick, Gillard, Hanks, Heath, Hore, B.Mackin, McNamara, Mithen, Purcell, Sherriff, West and Zanker. Ivey's first game of 2023 means we'll have played 28 total from our list of 31.4 points

Let's also remember that Ben Brown is essentially another forward line coach, given his experience. His knowledge will be invaluable for guys like JVR and Petty.4 points

I can appreciate how difficult and time consuming it must be to filter problematic content. Having said that, the blanket censorship and removal of posts that has occurred recently stymied Demonland members’ need to talk through what was happening. I found myself turning back to SEN and CH7 (media outlets I had removed from my listening habits) to keep up with developments. I’ll be honest, I felt Demonland had let us down in our hour of need. As superficial as that reaction may have been, it was ‘real’ at the time. Demonland is our first port of call in a crisis. It has a cathartic effect, to share impressions with fellow Demon supporters and seek a balanced view; something the wider media is unlikely to provide. For a period, Demonland became irrelevant! Contribution numbers fell away significantly. There must be some ‘middle ground’ that can be achieved in times like this.4 points

It was probably easier for aspiring footballers who lived outside of the most locked down city in the world in the years leading up to the draft4 points

ah ive just figured out what this round 0 and then a bye in round 5 is about. its for anzac day which is a thursday next year. very difficult to play on the weekend before or the weekend afterwards. so the 4 teams going north for round zero will be us, pies, bombers and richmond.4 points

Only 5 more votes than Trac, yet Neale has won 2 medals in that time. I’d say the 169 votes combined for Trac and Clarrie has something to do with Trac not snagging a medal. The consistency from our two the last four seasons has been nothing short of remarkable.4 points

I actually think her opponents give her a wider berth than most players for just that reason. One punch and you know you're going to be on your bum. Tayla plays incredibly hard but fair I reckon. She shows some pretty good discipline.3 points

I will place my trust in JT. He has the skill to see past who will become an AFL player, particularly with pick 6 and 11. If it’s Sanders I’ll trust he is the man. As long as he is given the free rein to pick best available.3 points
-
I know this is the Leake thread, but I’ll add - my fear with Sanders is that he’s like McLean, or Dom Tyson, or Darcy Parish, or any number of others... players that if they’re not in the midfield, they don’t have the tools to fit anywhere else. And if he’s with us, he ain’t unseating Viney, Oliver or Petracca.3 points

I’m on Leake for 6. Finally figured out who Sanders reminds me of. Sorry Colonel, probably a bit unfair but it’s another chicken-related moniker - Brock McLean.3 points

Love having Tayla back! As a small aside - she is obviously an accomplished boxer, I always worry she is going to do a Barry Hall the way she is treated by defenders. I do that for all those with hand to hand combat skills… my kids educator at daycare does MMA… I am so nice to her. I know it’s irrational but maybe stop hitting her in the back of the head every bloody time…3 points

I would fully expect that we play Richmond on the Wednesday night for Anzac Eve and follow up with a Thursday night trip down to Geelong on the next day.3 points

Respect this position. Beware of the voices that urge you take on risk when those voices have no responsibility or accountability. The world is increasingly litigious and populated by folk who feel they should be compensated for some personal hurt or grievance. Similar to the health industry where everyday medical professionals have to deal with patient requests and demands that may be inappropriate. If the professional provides a service just to avoid a confrontation or to keep the patient happy then the professional takes the risk of being investigated by the relevant health body. A mistake or wrong action can risk a professional losing their registration and right to practice. Together with the risk of financial penalty. As you say apropos of Demonland, the editors [censored] is on the line. You owe posters nothing..3 points

Absolutely correct. Imagine if we had put $10 a year on top of Membership to be directed toward a facility that @old dee and I have been hearing promised for the past 30 years! At least we would be part of the way there, instead of walking around with a begging bowl. Hawthorns new facility is projected to be $120M, and the government has committed to a percentage, but the rest is coming from their own coffers, that they built. Our coffers amount to the sale of 2 facilities that Joe bought for us all those years ago. And at the last AGM we were told those funds would not be used for facilities....!!3 points

@Bring-Back-Powell I was incorrect, we cannot sign him as a DFA but all other clubs can do so and put him onto their senior list. Dee Spencer is correct he needs to go into the Rookie Draft so technically clubs below us can draft him.3 points

I think the way it works is he is now a Delsited Free Agent' and doesn't need to nominate for the rookie draft. We sign him as a DFA Any club can sign him as a DFA; just as North swooped on Greenwood a few years ago when GCS delisted him to then rookie him. Caught GCS unawares. I very much doubt Melksham would want to join another club.3 points

I never said it was ideal, I don't like it. Perhaps Brown doesn't move to us if we don't offer the length of contract we did, perhaps if Tmac doesn't extend we can't afford to sign Trac or Clarrie to long term contracts. Perhaps this is the unfortunate results of other decisions that have benefited greatly, like flags, like having our elite players on long term contracts. All I'm saying is there is more to it than just "he won't play a part next year let's try and get rid of him somehow" and we don't know what the "more" is. And I agree that the Schache decision is odd, I wouldn't have done it. As for Grundy I think most recognize that it was something that we tried and it didn't work. Grundy wanted out, we didn't push him and for getting him where he wanted to go for what I and others think was well "unders" is a good thing for culture and that would be recognized by the players.3 points

Worked really hard, made vfl team of the year at FB, earned another chance. Was already discussed mid season, with teams interested, so not a surprise. Good luck to him.3 points

Just watched the "Gettable" podcast. In terms of the Dees 1st pick, Cal said we would wait to see who was left out of: Curtin / Sanders / Watson. He also said we would have an eye on Caddy (as he is a forward) and Windsor (who he described as the "flyer").2 points

I think what many are missing is the cultural aspect of keeping him on, and Tmac as well. It's very hard to ask Petts to stay and honour his contract if you force BBB or Tmac to take early retirement particularly when it will most likely cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars. I like the fact we are honouring our word, it sends a strong message that can have substantial benefits in unseen areas. These issues are never clear or easy but a balancing act to find the best overall solution. We don't know all the facts and I suggest you support the Club in its decision.2 points
-
Because the Tasmanian team will be building a list from scratch and they'll need 42 players, including as many talented Tasmanians as possible, so the contract offers for them, if they are any good, will be irresistible and the AFL will provide special avenues for the players to move and compensation to teams losing these players. WA and SA teams currently only have a limited number of list spots to fill and there's no special compensation involved, players have to move through standard trade or FA. There's a risk drafting Tasmanian players now, particularly for teams in our position - we will need ready-to-go replacements for our stars coming to end of their careers at the time of the Tasmanian team introduction, we won't be wanting draft pick compensation to start all over again.2 points

I think there is a huge difference in that we don't have our admin, training ground, gym, recovery etc all in the one place. No matter how hard people try, it makes a large disconnect whereby you aren't bumping into people around the water cooler, talking social media, admin, board, managers, players etc Hard to one entity. And while people look at 2021, we were in the training hub for a long time. Everyone talked about being in unity and working with purpose and togetherness. No surprise that our 'selflessness' mantra was a huge part of 2021. That seems to have disappeared IMO2 points
