  6. Hello Demonlanders, thinking like you all, I imagined that training would be at Gosh's today and at 10.25 logged onto Demonland ready to read your reports! After the first few posts and reading no training and having the morning free thought..... Sod it I'll just dash down there and do a Mini Report as from Berwick its not that far away. Hope thats O'K So no T.V Show intros and setting scenes for this one so I'll just get straight down into it. REHAB CLARRY, MAX, FARRIS WHITE, MELKY, MATT JEFFERSON, JAKEY L, JOEL SMITH AND 1 OTHER I COULDNT PLACE. Glad to see the Club being ultra cautious with Clarrie's thumb BUT the fact he is still troubled with it is worrying ( God I hate Selwood) Got there at 10.50 to see Full match Simulation Game between the Blues and the Whites. Quite clearly the Blues were the A Team and the Whites were the possibles. Some interesting faces in the white Team headed by JvR and on todays form I couldn't pick him for a place in the ones just yet. JAMES JORDON also in White team as was MICHAEL HIBBERD and JOSH SCHACHE ATTACKY . Saw about an Hour and 15 of solid match sims. A few takes. BEN BROWN was in SCINTILLATING form. he must have kicked 5 or 6 goals gave about 3 away. Took strong marks in pack and on the lead. Completely overshadowed ADAM TOMLINSON who although tried was just outmanoevered. HE IS A LOCK FOR ROUND 1 IMV. BRODIE GRUNDY was all over it like a flock of angry seaguls fighting over a legless prawn. His ruckwork was great and his run and carry and work below his knees was flawless. BAYLEY FRITSCH was also in scarry good form kicking some goals and cleverly placing himself in irresistable and dangerous positions.LACHY HUNTER,?? He is going to be a weapon and a half with his Run and carry up and down the wing and Flawless disposal. JAMES HARMES, JV, and KOSSY were just phenomenal in the midfield and just racked up disposals at will.CHARLIE SPARGO complemented the run and carry of the mids and was involved in several chains which resulted in Goals. T.MAC was a little quiet by his standards but still imposes and with his hi end run and leads created many opportunities.JAKE BOWEY playing in the Blue team was impassable across half back and his disposals were alway creative and on the money smart. Looks to have maybe beaten Hibbo for that HBF spot perhaps. The defense of MAY, HARRISON (THE HEARTBREAKER) PETTY were frugal and meaner and madder than a mosquito in a manikin factory.KADE CHANDLER also played for the Blue team and he was busier than a one armed man trying to hang a picture! Kicked some opportunistic goals and was really involved. Thats about all I have and I'll be back at Casey next week with another Blockbuster training and T.V Show dialogue. I hope this mini report makes up somewhat for all you Landers that went to Gosch's which would also have infuriated me! Cheers P.F

  9. I could potentially attend this.. Knowing my luck I'd probably show up with 100 other supporters on the day with no players in sight only to be told over the phone by staff member that they've unexpectedly had to move their closed session to China.

  12. I thought the paddock was actually expanded to be the same size as the MCG now anyway? After attending Casey myself for a training session, you would need to be a very keen observer, most likely from an opposition club, who understands gameplay and tactics, to be able to discern what the club might be actually doing in drills anyhow. I am almost certain that the club does not worry about supporters getting along there to see them train however, they don’t know who supporters are and who might be a spy of sorts. as I mentioned earlier, I have empathy for those of you who went along and did not get to see the Wednesday session but, if I was to be completely honest, I think some of the reactions here are so over the top that it’s quite embarrassing. People would do well to understand the dichotomy of control and begin to practice it.

  14. Yes, the titles have changed a lot over the years. When I was a kid growing up in the 60s, these were the positions on the field: B: Former rover who has lost a yard Loneliest man in the world Rock of Gibraltar H/B: Enforcer Key Defender Jack-of-all-trades C: Real goer Pivot Racehorse H/F: Avenue to goal The hardest position Will-o'-the-wisp F: Resting ruckman Spearhead Goalsneak R: One kick behind the play Prime mover Borer into the bottom of packs. 19th: Utility 20th: Big-hearted trier. A host of exciting young prospects, natural left-footers, honest battlers, bean-poles, big occasion players, nippy small men and club stalwarts who have all been knocking on the door have just missed selection and will be running around in the early game. ============================================================================ Things started to change back in the 1980s and a new terminology came into being. Teams now looked like this: B: Tagger Stopper Sweeper H/B: Rebounder Negator Springboard C: Breakaway Instigator Linkman H/F: Runner Tall option Receiver F: Crumber Converter Finisher R: Tall On-baller Small I/C: Overlapper Tag breaker =========================================================================== As of 2023, we now have three backs, three forwards, twelve rotating mids and five on the bench.

  17. I agree Binman I guess that I am just lamenting the fact that when we were bereft of talls in the finals we refused to play Weid or Tomo to provide an option. So glad that Weid left and we have an injection of height into the team that we may use.

  18. For those that wasted their time going to Goschs yesterday, I'd recommend kicking an email to Kate Roffey. From My experience she seems to really appreciate the value of passionate supporters to the club. Hopefully they'll put a decent notification system and process in place. With technology these days it's not hard to do. They've got to let the team know in advance, so surely it's simple to let supporters know too. If it's a closed session, just call it a closed session. On another note, I know it's a waste of time but does anyone have footage of Selwood kicking Clarrys hand last year? A so called innocuous kick seems to be costing Clarry a lot of ongoing pain and discomfort.

  20. No, because pre-1897 was a different competition. All those changes post 1897 were part of one continuous league, the VFL which changed its name to AFL in 1990. The governance of the league continued from 1989 to 1990, 1897 was a breakaway competition with a new structure and governance. Some of the "premierships" awarded pre-1897 were done so by vote of media and the "fixture" was far from official with some teams playing more games than others, some teams not playing against other teams and doubling up against others etc. It was far more informal than the structured competition which began in 1897. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_VFA/VFL_premiers "From 1877 until 1887, the premiership was a title given to the best performing team, determined largely by press consensus. These premierships, as well as premierships between 1870 and 1876 decided in the same manner prior to the foundation of the VFA, were at the time an informal title, but have since been considered official.[1][2]"

  21. Kozzie (or his management) has probably received a decent offer elsewhere but I reckon we'll find the money to match that offer I can't see us letting him go on top of Jackson going. It's one thing replacing Jackson with Grundy but who is going to replace a talent like Kozzie? Remembering that with the new broadcast rights kicking in, our salary cap will have more space (in theory) I'm betting that he'll re-sign. When? Might be sometime in the 2nd half of the season

  26. Can't agree here. It's not that hard to keep the website and other social media up to date. Not providing training information just to avoid what happened yesterday would just a cop out by the Club. I mean really, it's not that hard. If there is a change in details a simple call by the FD to member communications and an adjustment to the appropriate sites. It already happens because all our social media staff were at Casey. Someone stuffed up and they should be made to read this thread to understand it's not something that doesn't matter. Can't agree here either. I'm trusting Picket did actually get to training and on that assumption and based on his report then there was nothing special that he saw that needed to be protected. I imagine they moved it to Casey so they could get match practice on an MCG sized field and not on the much smaller Gosch's paddock. If the club really do want a "secret closed" session then just don't provide any information or do what they are doing on Friday and say the players are having a day off. There's no need to put so many supporters to the inconvenience of yesterday. Yesterday was just sloppy pure and simple. It's not the first time and I doubt it will be the last. Look, it's no biggie for me, I get to a lot of training sessions and I didn't have to make any special arrangements but many here did and I can understand their disappointment and fury.

  29. From a Boomer - Think the melbournefc website uses Telstra Web Services. Considering what Telstra charge for hosting, updates, etc. the club could save enough using any of a multitude of other CMS to have money to employ a person to look after the site, do daily updates and create regular stories. I would be confident I could replicate the current content in Joomla, Wordpress or Drupal inside a couple of days. Not all Boomers are Luddites.

  30. We should break it up into quadrants relative to supporter stress levels, just so we have something to go by. Q1: Now till Round 1 - Generally relaxed. A signature in this period would be an absolute bonus. Stress levels are pretty low but do exist. Stress level 10% Q2: First 6 rounds of season – Still early days and still in a reasonable mood. Although now that the season has started and the media cycle has ramped up we get to hear and read stories about this on a weekly basis. We also have the odd friend or well-wisher opposition fan ribbing us over whether he’s staying or not. It’s irritating like a mozzie bite but we still have hope everyone is doing what they can and Kozzie will commit soon. Stress level 20% Q3: Round 7 to Kings Birthday/bye – We play Port in Rd 10 and the ambulance chasers come to shine. “A dress rehearsal with his future employers?” Melbourne are also loading in this period so after a few losses and the bye the pencil sharpeners come out. Stress level 40% Q4: Round 14 to Round 20 – The news stories are in overdrive, the Dees are in contention again and it becomes a distraction. Your friend from Q2 is punched in the face. Breathing is now in double time. Stress level 80% Q5: Round 21 to GF Day/Trade Period – Nothing has happened, Trade Radio’s mouth is watering over this great story to start every single day with. Some are resigned to losing him, some are living in deluded hope that he needs right up until the day before trade period to sign. Memberships dangle in a guillotine, heart health not great. Stress level 99%

  34. The Taj Woewodin probably doesn't really surprise and that's even without watching him training etc. But I was told last year by someone who had a little connection in the cooperative dealings with the club that the coaches rate Woewodin's professionalism at a real high elite level. Blew them away in a short period of time just how driven he is with his training and off field work ethic. Again, no surprises considering his old man was one of the most professional athletes in the competition back in the early 2000's with his diet and preparation.

  37. The MFC media department were there today at Casey, generated plenty of social media, two videos with players but they weren’t aware of the last minute change? yeah right. I have empathy for the people who went to Gosch’s today to watch, but clearly the wool has been pulled over our eyes by the club with regards to it being a ‘secret closed’ session.

  38. This is great knows, I believe out side is much better with BB at FF with a fit team. His record speaks for its self, they have obviously managed him very well and hopefully do so throughout the year too, we done need 22 games from him, maybe 12-15 plus finals!

  39. Perhaps the move was prompted by an adverse report in today’s astrological charts for the precinct around Olympic and AAMI Parks and Gosch’s Paddock to move training to Casey Fields. The moon is in the Seventh House and Jupiter’s aligning with Uranus. I’m informed that Collingwood missed this vital news and, as a result, ruckman Darcy Cameron suffered a fresh hamstring setback at training this morning which could derail the start to their season. The Pies also have just realised they cleared their best ruckman during the trade period. Anyway that’s my training report for today.
