  1. And it came to pass that a great pestilence descended on the ancient city of Melbourne, and none of its inhabitants were untouched. And some were heard to cry out in strange tongues. And every 7 days the young men of the city would meet in combat. And each Thursday 3 wise men would sit in judgement and the wise men were John, Robert and Loui And their judgement was delivered, In LEAGUE TEAMS APPLAUSE. Bob Davis, "Hello everyone welcome to league teams, Jack, Your looking particularly well, Loui when didn't you look well"!? Loui, "When I got home late after a card game at Jack's, Edna gave me a serve that is still ringing in my ears". Jack Dyer, "Well Lou your ears are big enough looks like you've gone ten rounds with Maha, MAAARHU, MARHAMUD OH BUGGER IT I'll just call him Cassius Clay"! Bob, (Laughing like a Hyena), "Ok you two that'll do, we got some serious business to attend to attend to tonight" Lou, "That's right, I gotta tell ya, that word has reached us about a sensational football team that has turned the corner, who are playing Ringer Ding Ding Footy and its not the team that we know"! Jack, "Give us a Hint, it aint the Demons is it"?? Bob, Well you know Loui, I've been saying it for a long time now, This Max Gawn led team is playing very accomplished Football". "Hey Jack can you spell accomplished"? Jack, "Accomplished?? They never taught us that at Richmond tech, But I'll say this that Simon Goodwin has taken a team of very good , ordinary footballers and turned them into superstars"! Bob, "Well just before we get onto the team Loui has got a recipe for us , What is it tonight Lou"? Lou, "Edna's great friend put me onto this its called Quiche" Jack, "Quiche??? Sounds like Egg and Bacon Pie to me" Lou, "The only pie like Jack is a Fourntwenty"! Jack, "Oi" Ive heard from the Demonland correspondent Picket Fence who has filled this report before tommorrow nights game and here it is Jack better put your reading glasses on! Stuck in the Middle with You Stealers Wheel Well I don't know why I came here tonight. I've got the feeling that something ain't right. I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair, And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs. Clowns to the left of me! Jokers to the right! Here I am stuck in the middle with you. Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you, And I'm wondering what it is I should do. It's so hard to keep this smile from my face. Losing control and running all over the place. DOGGIES to the left of me! CARLTANKERS to the right! Here I am stuck in the middle with you. When you started off with nothing And you're proud that your a self-made man. Ooooo-ooo-oooh And your friends they all come crawling, Slap you on the back and say Please . . . Please . . . Trying to make some sense of it all But I see it makes no sense at all. Is it cool to go to sleep on the floor? I don't think that I can take anymore. Clowns to the left of me! Jokers to the right! Here I am stuck in the middle with you. When you started off with nothing And you're proud that your a self-made man. Ooooo-ooo-oooh And your friends they all come crawling, Slap you on the back and say Please . . . Please . . . Well I don't know why I came here tonight. I've got the feeling that something ain't right. I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair, And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs. Clowns to the left of me! Jokers to the right! Her I am stuck in the middle with you. Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you . . . Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you . . . Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you . . . Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you . . ALELUIA, FINALLY some great music was being played during this mornings Captains Run before the game vs Carltank tomorrow night, Stuck in the middle was top of the list , but closely followed by Hotel California, Boys of Summer, Living on a prayer, and other "Classic' Rock tunes. NO SHOWS, INJURIES Steven May did some but not all drills and ran some fast laps but didn't look in discomfort or injured. From last Week Weeds was a no show which means he probably would not play tomorrow night. SKILLS , DRILLS AND MANOUVERS. Light session focusing on finesse and precision was the order of this sparkling training session today. probably went for about 1.5 hours DRILL 1 3/4 Ground ball movement emphasizing running to space creating the loose man and overlaps, this session was non contact based on what I saw which would be normal for a day before session I would imagine. Only token gesture harassments from coaches was seen DRILL 2 Goalkicking from every conceivable position Gawd there were some "Freakish" goals kicked which were made to look like "Bread and Butter" hopefully we can still kick the ones which are "Bread and Butter"! DRILL 3 A Short handball Drill B Centre Clearance work with midfield rotations C Short kicks to presented player options OBSERVATIONS PLAYER PERSONEL Jack Viney, Fritta,Jake Lever are all FIT and should play! Clarry NO issues with his dislocated finger of last week, Interesting that Oscar Baker and Jayden Hunt all trained indicating that they may form part of an extended bench, no other out of left field players were seen. It appears that Kossy might play more midfield minutes given he was doing some of the Mid field rotations Training. FINAL THOUGHTS Given the intensity of training over the last weeks I cannot see Carltank getting anywhere near us tomorrow. It seems that Goody will go with a "Full Strength" team which prepares us magnificently for the fist Game vs Dishlickers. I like the fact that, to get a game you must keep up standards and maintain an intensity which rewards with game time, a innate knowledge that if you play to the game plan expected that you will be rewarded handsomely and emphatically by winning games, being part of something greater than self and understanding that consistency buys greatness! 2. We do not play AFL (Australian Football League), we play Australian Football or if you wish Australian Rules Football. I know it has become popular to call the game AFL, but they are just the administrators, not the game.

  4. Good question. Interesting that he hasn’t played either practice game and no mention of any injury. Maybe the club wasn’t happy with his fitness base so they’re pushing him to complete a longer pre season? He did come from St Kilda and said our training standards were nothing he’s ever seen before.

  8. So why did you start this time-wasting thread? Thrown some provocative statements out there, not even a general clue to what the issues are to which you allude, despite many queries on here from posters for you to do so. No specifics, just innuendo ..... finsihing up with ' time will tell..' Sheeeesh.

  11. I thought the way we embraced WA and turned them onto our side was done incredibly well. Being from WA and speaking to people back there, they think there are a number of neutrals who don't like the Eagles or Dockers may jump on board the Dees as a result and the enjoyment factor of the GF over there. In regards to signing up members, the tally shows we have approx. 9,000 more members signed up as of the first week of March than last season, which is a 25% increase. If we were to take that 25% increase and add it to the total members for last year (not including the GF members), it would result in a total of 66,485 by the time the memberships close. So I think we are on track to capitalising on the first year after being premiers, but if we want to build a really powerful club and supporter base there are a few things we need to do over the next 5 years: 1. If we can win another 1 or 2 flags and build that dynasty we can start to get more members on board who like being part of a successful club and push the membership numbers up to 70k-80k. 2. We need to get the home base underway ASAP to create a 'one club' culture and enable supporters to go down after a MCG match to have a few beers and chat. It would also then enable great after match functions and speakers, such as past players/current players etc. 3. Continue to build a strong AFLW brand to attract more female supporters who can then convert to also following the men's side. Thinking there should be a joint mens/womens membership for the 'one club' feeling. I don't think we could ask much more after the first flag than over $2m of merch sold and an increase in membership at the moment. It's only been 5 months since we won the flag, so not enough time to assess how well we are capitalising.

  14. It would be disloyal of us to demand more $$ from our sponsors just after winning. Sure, when it's time to renegotiate, and perhaps with some ongoing time at the top of the AFL world, we should attract and receive more remuneration. But now is not the time.

  18. The sad truth, binman, is that ‘personal experience’, which is the very definition of ‘anecdote’, will always defeat science in the minds of some, albeit as you say, a gratefully lower number in Australia than US. Science is theory and observation made specific, analytical, reproducible practice. For those unfamiliar with its methods, that’s an unknown, elusive thing, thus mysterious, untrustworthy. “What they’re telling me can’t be true, because my mates and their mates and family have had ‘these’ experiences” will always defy the rigour and analysis than some don’t/can’t/don’t want to try to understand. I take heart in the fact that Australia, objectively more than any other country (Vax rates) rejects this approach.

  25. AFL Premiers the Melbourne Demons have advised that they increase sponsorship and corporate hospitality revenue by more than 40% ($2.4 million) during the 2021 season, with sponsorship revenue ending the year at $7.9 million. AFL Premiers Melbourne welcome $2.4 million sponsorship increase Lol.

  26. Will still be a dump. Hate that place with the passion of a thousand fires. Can’t see anything. Can never get level 1 seating even when the ground is virtually empty. It’s always freezing. And it has no soul or atmosphere. Money would be better spend to grow AFLW and community footy.

  31. WOW. When fwd he is playing like an opportunistic small forward; doesn't compete for marks and stays down front and square: 22 of those 29 goals were from snaps within about 25 mt of goal. The speed at which he gets the ball onto his boot and finds space/angles through a pack, for the ball to go through is phenomenal. Incredible goal sense. I can see the last few years of his contract when his midfield days are done we can just park him in the goal square and let him do his thing.

  34. The mental leap from 'we're not good enough to win a flag' to 'we've won a flag' is enormous. Players now know they are good enough .. And by some margin. Yet the room for improvement is massive. Virtually every player has improvement in them and will. now know that every single step they make in their training can generate the ultimate result. And the confidence in the game plan, their fitness and their team mates will be sky high. Plus the confidence that they can win from almost every position - other teams will know that Melbourne can pile on goals and win from 7 goals down I for one think we will improve this year. And when you look at the 2000's once you get to the top you can win 3/4 flags - Brisbane, Geelong, Hawthorn and Richmond have shown how to do it - with the right list, right age/experience bracket and injuries.

  35. The club has been so bad for long periods of time we lost generations of supporters, your point one is correct sustained success will grow your supporter base. Point 2, I don't think a social/bar space will be included in the home base, as much as it sounds great it isn't a high priority for the 11-15 days a year it would get used. Point 3 AFLW, agree it has increased female participation but has it increased female supporters of the game. AFLW has a serious quality issue, the games are getting worse not better, the top 4 sides played each other on the week end for a combine total of 11 goals with Melbourne kicking 4 of these. You will see the flow on of financial benefits in this season, better draw mor prime time games, higher attendance at games, R1 should have 70-80,000 attend, a couple of years ago we get 25K at a Bulldogs V Dees match at the MCG.

  36. What on earth does this post even mean??? The evidence shows the club has absolutely monetarised the premiership short term turning a 1.5M loss into an operating profit of around 2.0M. We'll need to wait for more substantial long term impacts and actions. To suggest this now, with unattributed commentary and innuendo, because that's what this thread origin is all about, , is disrespectful IMO. The AFL is littered with clubs that failed to capitalise on success so a real risk to be managed. North in the 90's, Hawks in the 70's and 80's. And as said in this thread, The Dogs and Beveridge in particular made it an art form. First Premier to miss finals since the Tiges in 1968 I think (but not certain) Pert and Roffey and team are smart enough to learn from others failings in this regard.
