  1. Yes....this is what Club culture is all about. He will get games if he is good enough, if not we haven't shoved a leader out the door like we did with Junior.

  3. Gee whiz I’m under the pump aren’t I ?? All I’m saying is that my info is there was some form of advice giving/mentoring/assistance provided by Simon Goodwin to some crows draftees on a casual basis for a period of time and that connection is a factor in our approach. i don’t mind if posters believe that or not. I’m just here to share my info and based on the amount of likes my posts seem to be getting I’d suggest the majority of demonland appreciate me doing so.

  4. I think that it would be fantastic to see him get to 300 games and Nathan Jones is a strong enough character to know that he can’t accept any games as gifts. He will earn them as he has done throughout his long career.

  5. The thing is, Nathan Jones is going to offer 10x as much off the field as our 40th bloke will overall. and that's even if he doesn't play a game. and with a reduced soft cap, guys like this are going to be like gold as essentially development coaches.

  6. Not unhappy with this. Sounds like they'll do all they can to get him to 300, and so they should. His off field mentoring sounds like something we really value.

  7. Did you also get cancer yourself in the months after your father died from cancer? Did you have the media always watching and photographing your recreational activities? Did you have other pressures from your job playing out publicly? Did you have other health issues directly related to your job impeding you? Did you have family pressures forcing you to relocate while experiencing health issues and trauma? Jesse has made poor choices for sure, and his career will likely be cut short as a result. Your comments however are a bit misguided and insensitive.

  8. Was just writing this when you posted...in total agreement 'george'... Some decisions are made for cultural reasons. We can remember the discontent caused by the decision to flick Junior out of the club... I'm happy for Jones to stay on...he may not play a lot of senior footy if any but he will be a valuable contributor.

  9. I think it is interesting to note that when we talk about our bottom 4 or 5 players on match day, almost all of them play in the forward line. ANB, AVB, Jones, Hannan, maybe even Melksham this year. We keep talking about mid/forward connection, but it must be difficult when all of your weakest players on the field every week essentially play the same position.

  11. Dear God. Oliver has made the AA team, Treloar hasn't. Oliver has two club B&Fs, Treloar none. Oliver is 23, Treloar is 27. Finally, seeing as though Brownlow votes are for some reason significant to you, Oliver averages 1 vote for every 1.8 game he plays and Treloar averages 1 vote for every 2.3 games he plays. So even on your very flawed metric Oliver has him covered. Treloar's Brownlow tally after his first 5 years is 33 votes compared to Oliver's 54. Treloar 101 games and Oliver 99. Oliver's average should go higher seeing as he hasn't even reached his prime years.

  12. QD arrives home from work . . . a bit irritable and somewhat knackered, Turns on Demonland for a bit of escapism and sees the 'Hot' sticker next to the BB thread together with four new pages, Gets really excited, thinks there must be a serious advancement and possibly an in principle agreement from the Brown camp, Excitement reaches fever-pitch as the thread is activated . . . F*&k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. I’ll go. His heart is red and blue. His courage and loyalty is unrivaled. Is he in decline? Yes Is he restricted? Yes Is he still able to compete and play a role ? Yes. Can he be a mentor for the younger blokes about professionalism and what it takes? Absolutely I feel he will also be in much lower $ probably as low as about $250k. He may or may not to 300 games but he is depth, he is cover and he is able to make a meaningful contribution if required. If you go back to the Crows and Collingwood games this year, you will see what he can still brings.

  14. Fantastic news. Even if he doesn't play all that much, this is the kind of thing that builds culture. Look at North after they dumped their veterans, look at Collingwood with the Treloar situation at the moment. And you don't need to go that far back to see what happened to our club after we continuously delisted and moved on our most loyal players from the 2000's. Bringing in Yze and Green, keeping Jones around. It seems as though we've learned at least a little from the past.

  16. Contract size and duration, mental health struggles, hammys, wife and child are in another state. This trade would make sense on absolutely no level. The Dees have recruited smartly recently. Treloar doesn’t fill a need. Ben Brown, a winger be it Smith or Phillips and a better support cast are the objectives. Stick to the plan and don’t get distracted by the bright shiny thing.

  17. Jay Clark responding to a question. What is the latest about Ben Brown and Issac Smith joining Melbourne? A: I think the Dees are busy behind the scenes and could bring in both of those guys if Tom McDonald leaves. They need his money out. GWS interested in McDonald. Melbourne has presented to Smith and offered a three year deal and is slightly ahead of the Bombers for Brown. Maybe on about $550-$650k.

  18. Even if the Evil Doctor is wrong, I find it just a bit of fun and good entertainment. IMO he doesn't take it too seriously and I suspect he won't throw the toys out of the cot if wrong, unlike some others

  21. That's a ridiculous way to analyse player capability. Brayshaw came 3rd in the Brownlow once, I suppose that makes him better than Treloar?

  22. Very interesting article. Gee if we get a first round pick for TMac and Preuss we will be doing alright.

  23. As George has alluded to, they didn't want to repeat the McDonald fiasco.

  26. Keep posting Dr evil. This is demonland and when you post some good stuff there will ALWAYS be posters who think its bs or questions the [censored] out of u, its just in their nature. I'm sure a lot of us appreciate it. Keep your posts coming.

  27. All good moon, just a little gag to pass the time.. In all seriousness though, I am a little excited of having Brown potentially playing for us in 2020. Nek minute, requests a trade to Essendon..

  28. I’ve got a few different mentors across Australia. Ever heard of a phone? A ten minute call for some feedback over a particular issue or concern can do wonders.

  29. It also tells me we've had about 25 players get to 200 games, and another 35 to 150 games, and about 100 more to 100 games out of 1358 players. So historically 2% play 200 games, 4.5% get to 150 and 12% to 100. When we rip on players like Omac or ANB for being "average footballers", we forget they have played 80+ games for us, and in the 15% most capped MFC players ever. They might not be superstars, but they have been successful players for us.

  30. That defies belief T Mac is a negative trade wise(ie we pay them to take him) and Preuss is a high third rounder. Am I missing something

  33. I’d be going strong in looking at landing Higgins. I think Higgins knows he’s unlikely to get air time in the Tigers right now. Exactly the smart player we need to create and kick goals. He’d be an excellent small forward alongside Pickett and as a crumbing forward. He walks into our best 22. I can’t see him at the Saints. Gresham and Butler are already their small forwards. They are adding Crouch to their midfield so it’s already crowded. Dees make sense for Higgins.

  35. This is an incredibly hurtful position to take. People deal with loss in different ways. People grieve in different ways. If you managed to move on from your father's death and get to a point where your career is going well, hats off to you. But the fact you were capable of that doesn't mean everyone else should be as well. A "just get over it" attitude like this is not helpful.

  38. North pushing out the door is just confusing everyone. They've really shot themselves in the foot with how they've devalued Brown this year. The view that Brown is limited in how he wins the ball (well documented in this thread) is reasonably wide spread, but the stats don't lie either. It may mean we have to adjust how we play in order to capitalise on those strengths.

  39. Sam McClure is suggesting Coll want Treloar out because they think he won't cope well with his family interstate: “...I remember if it wasn’t for my partner Kimmy, for Nick Maxwell, Bucks, Jacqui [Louder] who is my psych/really, really good friend and my family, I probably wouldn’t be playing footy, to be honest with you... ...While Treloar is adamant that living away from his partner and daughter won’t impact on his football, the Collingwood hierarchy disagrees". adam-treloar-stuck-in-the-middle A google search connects his psych, Jacqui Lounder to Collingwood. Fair to assume the club has inside knowledge so have an extra 'duty of care' in how they deal with him. It might be a good idea for Eddie to talk to lawyers on extent of their 'duty of care'. Also, I have some problem with the ethics of Coll offloading him for potential psychological reasons which may or may not affect football performance.

  41. Has too much influence on the game being President of AFLPA and also on the Competition Committee. 16 minute quarters and limits on runners on ground really suited the Cats with all their 200+ game players. Looking forward to 20 minute quarters returning and younger teams getting an advantage through fitness.

  42. Goodwin was employed as an assistant at Essendon prior to Brodie Smith's drafting at Adelaide. Not sure how common it is for an assistant coach at another club in another state to be mentoring a player that was drafted after he had already left. There's a fair bit of mental gymnastics required to get to square that circle.

  43. Another case for Ben Brown being a good match for the Dees (apologies if this has been posted elsewhere in the thread): https://www.statsinsider.com.au/afl/ben-brown-to-melbourne-is-a-devilishly-good-match

  45. Complete over reaction on Jay Was unbelievably rejected by Selectors after Bulldogs game. Is IMO a naturally talented footballer with good/high level of skills and as is required takes the game on ( occasionally to his detriment )so that our attacking game can start in defence and give us the best chance of scoring. Perhaps Jay takes on a bit too much but he is an exciting and relevant replacement for Nev. Please keep him in defence he will only get better and gain great confidence after playing with Maysie Jake Riv Hibbo Smithy Salo Tommo and whoever else is playing with him. Two year contract please and fair go at selection during 2021.
