  1. If we get AvB playing in 202 that is like having a new recruit, I remember when we got Brayshaw back in 2018 it was much the same way, he'd almost become a forgotten figure and when he was actually given a chance to play he really shon through. I feel like he'll be a challenge for our new fitness staff to handle but boy if we get him right, could make a massive difference!

  2. There's a good chance the club wasn't allowed to take him. There's some strict rules they have to go by having someone train who isn't 'officially' on the list. I think he'd be certain as to what his position in the squad is and the club will be doing what they can so he doesn't feel like and outsider, all the training photo's show him smiling and laughing with the others.

  3. With the exception of not winning a premiership I would take the 90s/00s any day over the 10s.

  6. It definitely looks bad, but it's a bit misleading because they haven't included AFLX games. Add those in and we go above the Giants into 15th spot.

  7. It was the reading of the ball in flight and quick step that took him from being behind Lever? to i front of the pack and in a position to be able to take the mark that I was impressed with.

  8. It was hot and windy, difficult conditions that we handled pretty well. Rehab: Vanders and Petty. Pretty much the same as last week. Joined all drills other than the zoning drill I will describe later. Jones and KK. Walked a few laps and then did multiple 100 metre runs around the boundary at about half pace. Neither looked at all inconvenienced. Hannan. Similar to Jones and KK except he ran straight line 100m working up from slow to three quarter pace. Did some specific exercises with one of the physio's concentrating on gait and agility. Spargo: unsighted Bennell: a late arrival and did some gentle boundary running. Tomlinson and Baker: walking That's it for rehab. All the other players did the full session other than Jackson, Rivers and Pickett who joined some of the drills and some specialized drills away from the main group. It was a "craft" day today from what I could tell. There was no match sim but many drills concentrating on specific areas. The main drill of interest was two "teams" practicing zoning and kicking within the zone. The players were continually telling each other where to go, where to stand and alerting them to opposition positioning. The "playing area" was about half the size of a soccer field. Other drills involved marking and spoiling exercises in a three man up situation. Still others involved kicking to leading forwards and there was some "loose" goal kicking practice. The session was only about 2 hours and not nearly as intense as last week, nor as long. The session was one where individual players didn't really stand out but Steve May's kicking is a thing of beauty. In difficult conditions he regularly found tight targets. Beyond that no player really caught my notice for either good or bad reasons. Pickett was there and moves really nicely, is clean with the ball and disposes well. He'll play earlier than many think, particularly if Bennell isn't available. Jackson continues to impress with his skills (and I only mention this because of the concern prior to draft). All in all a low key session in hot and difficult conditions.

  9. Not too late for Oscar to show his mongrel side. Has put on muscle which is a good start. How about we give all players on the list our unqualified support (no matter the past) and see where this year of fitness and change takes us. I have a feeling the List is as motivated and challenging and fit as we have ever seen them. It's like making a whole new start and there are no limitations on any one so don't be surprised if we team together like 2018 but even better. The Coaches snd fitness staff appear right onto every thing and I can't think of too many decisions since the end of 2019 season that haven been for the benefit of the Club. Its early days yet but genuine belief and excitement is growing with a lot of D/L pundits and only the negative nellies can't see better times ahead in 2020.

  11. Rubbish. He was sounded out by the AFL and GWS to be their first Coach to bring a profile to the club. He moved states to do the job and was successful at starting a club in hostile territory. He is nothing like the player you mentioned as he played his entire career at one club and basically coached for his entire career at another. The GWS job came after he had retired from Coaching. Easy to rewrite history. Congrats on yet another negative post.

  13. I went today and haven't seen this many in full training for a long time. I was so happy to see Jack Viney fit and in everything, you can just tell he's loving being out there. Like everyone else has mentioned this pre season you cant take your eye's off Petracca, I'll tell you right now the penny has absolutely dropped, he's in for a big one. Others that are way ahead of this time last year - Lever, May, Weid, Hibberd, Oliver, TMac. My only concerns are Tomlinson who's starting to miss a large chunk of pre season & KK who seems to be in no mans land just at the minute. Also this was the first time I'd seen Luke Jackson up close..... Wow.

  14. Just not a fan of hyperbole From what I have seen at training, can see why we went with pick 3 But let's wait and see Sick of this site building up players only to knock them down again Same with Pickett, Bedford has been developing nicely but without the fanfare

  20. Here's my two bob's worth FWIW: *On my way to training rode past Tomlinson, Bennell and Baker jogging the tan. All moving freely and looked in good spirits. *Took note of the rehab group mainly. VDB & Petty started there but soon joined tha main group. Fingers crossed for VDB. He is ripped! *Hannan looks a fair way off. *Really hoping KK comes on. Not sure he is in rehab for concussion but , to me, looks detached from the group. May well just be his demeanour but all those around him totally foccused. Hope I'm off the mark. *Having said all that, Jones cuts a frustrated figure. Not exactly sure of the problem? *Rivers is a specimen. Tall mid, oozes confidence as has a body ready to go. *Never seen Jetta fitter. *Tomlinson would have to be the tallest and bulkiest og wingmen! *Absolutely trying to be realistic but this is a massive group in main training. Only one not on the park at all was Spargo, I think.

  23. Watching him train, as I have said, can see why we went for him at 3 In the aforementioned marking drill, Steven May went out of his way to knock Jackson around, exactly what he needs to get used to I just want him to be given all the time he needs

  26. I will definitely make it to one of your gigs but not this weekend. I'm on crutches. Having a final Op next week which ends 3months of being virtually house bound. Old footy injury gave up the ghost. I'm heading to Old Melbourne town the same day and will be down there just in time to make it to the final training session in Melbourne next Friday. Will be there with a Jack Trengove type kneeling scooter. Hoping to take Saty on for a few laps of Goschs. Had a quick look at some of your YouTube clicks. Love your work!! Mate we need you to get the band together at our pre game NSW Demons events. Alas no games in 2020. Hopefully 2021.

  27. There was something strange about his goal kicking; too indifferent to analyse it, though - after all, it was the Tigers in the days of Esso petrol stations. Stickers everywhere - 'Carna Tiges, Put a Tiger in Ya Tank', etc. Paddy had a presence, though. My mates in those days were largely all Tiger supporters and the first person that they ever mentioned was Paddy - a hero-like status, and he could do no wrong. He actually did a good deal wrong, come to think of it ... but in a charming way(?) and the apple of that monotonous Richmond supporter throng. An untidy footballer, at best; strangely this was largely due to those enormous ankle boots with the up-turned toe that he wore (White Diamond brand I suspect). These were great footy boots - wore them myself - but no-one else's toes turned up like Paddy's. He had this larrikin image at all times - and the 'Paddy' instead of the 'Patrick' gave him a leprechaun status but very much larger than the traditional Irish pixie - amid the very deepest jest and jangle of the Irish and thus, widely celebrated, loved and tolerated despite (let's say 'occasional') flaws in technique. As stated before, he still gave his heart and soul to the RFC, and never stopped trying for team success. He attracted large crowds to the Richmond matches, and was rightly and boisterously applauded by his fans, particularly when something onfield went correctly for him. A great past icon of the game we all love.

  30. I’ve just heard that Petty, Chandler and Jordan are doing everything right off the field. No stone unturned. Jordan’s kicking skills and endurance could see him slot into our midfield nicely. With the depth we have next year i’m guessing if he forces his way into the side it’s because he is damaging by foot.

  34. Training review from an AFL track watcher: https://www.afl.com.au/news/267311/draftees-shine-as-fit-again-dees-leave-horror-2019-behind Extracts: [vandenBerg] was able to run in the off-season for the first time since arriving at the Demons in the 2014 rookie draft and has been doing so for the best part of four months. Most encouragingly, vandenBerg took part in midfield drills. [Pickett] sought treatment for a sore left patella and had it taped but completed the session without any noticeable issues while running, leaping and wrestling in one-on-one work. He swapped comfortably between kicking on his left and right foot, was clean at ground level, showed good intensity and displayed clean hands but was blowing hard by session's end. Jay Lockhart and Harry Petty – who showed promise in attack through necessity this year – continue to train with the defenders and forwards, respectively, but are expected to play at both ends in 2020 Second-year players Tom Sparrow, Kyle Dunkley and James Jordon were in the thick of the midfield work. Very encouraging, especially Aaron!

  35. My first time in 2 years - in town from NSW visiting family. Exciting to see so many on the track. May’s left foot is laser like. Jackson shows good hands low down. Nice chatting to you towards the end of the session @Baghdad Bob. Very much agree that Petty will be a gun.

  36. I'm not going to tell you he's going to run out there from day one a dominant because like all kids they need time to develop but i honestly don't think ive seen a kid that quick & agile for his size, he's super competitive, he can obviously take a big mark and his awareness in congestion was excellent. Also im not sure what the panic was with his kicking, it looked just fine to me. I could honestly see him playing as a midfielder in a few years.

Thank you for this separate report, Saty; it is difficult to amass news of the Dees from Adelaide - even though this site is far better than the MFC site, there are gaps in information, naturally, from time to time. I appreciate your efforts and reports - and this specific missive. Keep up the good work on our behalf.

  42. For all the rough stuff mentioned Paddy was a gentleman. He was my first coach at Caulfield in the VFA and such a contrast from Tony Jewell who he took over from. Tony was fiery and could give a spray and left you in doubt about what he thought whereas I don't think I ever heard Paddy swear who was measured and always referring to Len Smith's coaching notes. A great career as a footballer and a wonderful man. My condolences to the family and may he rest in peace.
