  2. You have to laugh... I really hope this sort of stuff burns in the guts of the players and next year we come out breathing fire.

  3. If we needed cap space to get Elliott, why would we resign ANB and J. Wagner, who are not best 30 at MFC?

  4. I do think a home base would help but really I think what we are lacking is a way to embrace and sell what we've got as a club. The Giants are so tight knit as a club because they've taken their disadvantages and turned them in to positives. Small club = community feel between the fans and the club. Fledgling start up = huge bond between players, coaches, staff etc. All the things we see as a disadvantage: Shared training base - great access to storm/victory etc Open training oval - easy connection for players to loyal fans Small membership - great heartland supporters Seen as toff's - embrace the city and top end of town image in a positive way I really think under PJ we started to get things right about how the club saw itself. Hard working, community focused, cared for each other, positive with a plan. Get back to those things and we can overcome things like training ovals and home bases.

  8. Though it’s true that constant negativity can be tiresome and even more dangerously, risks becoming the accepted norm, I’m becoming increasingly bored by people who rap others over the knuckles for not being positive. Though the game itself is anchored in undeniable truths via a set of rules and results, following a sporting team is altogether abstract. Investing time and genuine emotion into a group of strangers chasing a ball around a ground week after week is f$&king strange no matter which way you slice it. But you take what you want from it. There is no “correct” way to enjoy sport. If somebody wants to be negative about the sporting club they follow, then absolutely go for it. And the exact same thing applies to the opposite. If you’re a supporter who is affronted by another’s negativity, then go and stand somewhere else or ignore what they write. But the second you start berating that person you’re being a bit of a fascist. Also, people who have lived out the majority of their life without seeing their team win a premiership have every right to be a bit negative, so I don’t blame any of the posters here for having a vent. It’s a frustrating thing.

  9. What a rock of Shiit Melbourne Storm front up for Finals every year and we rub shoulders with them. Bellamey would sort us out

  10. Typical of our list management or should I say mismanagement. ANB VFL, Corey might MIGHT be useful but Josh very average. And our BEST Defender this year Frost, is at this stage hung out to dry. STAGGERING!!

  11. ANB is a role player, a great team man, the right age and you have to show some faith in your playing list. Keeping ANB also has no bearing on us getting other players.

  12. Wayne Carey has predicted us to make the biggest rise next year and jump back into the 8. With a softer draw and far fewer operations, a better club pre season, a few new players and some young developing players as well and importantly a good injury run and maybe a slightly altered game plan, I am also confident of us bouncing back to play finals next year.

  13. He is a brilliant player whose flaws sometime outweigh his brilliance. Improve his tank and ball use and he slides straight into the A grade category. His turnovers kill me but I love watching him. One thing is for sure - he is one of a maybe 5 players who stood up in 2019. He is part of our solution, not part of the problem and I celebrate him for that.

  16. Not that unequal. We have a potential goldmine if the club puts the work in. Our zone has a massive Sudanese population. If the club pull's it's collective finger out and gets active recruiting and running academies for these kids we'll be able to pull in some serious talents.

  17. He'll be 31, not chasing, not tackling, not crashing packs, bobbing up on twitter and SEN whilst playing for Casey. I don't care if he cost 500k or 5k I don't see the appeal. Take the chance with an athletic junior or state league player and save the cash for a shot at Ben King if Weid or Petty don't work out.

  18. This quote caught my attention: “This year will be the first year I haven’t had surgery in a while, and I’ll be having a full pre-season so I’m very excited for that,” he said. There are a number of players in the same boat at the club. This is also an interesting quote: “It’s good to get a little break first, have a few weeks off to mentally refresh and get away from the club, but then from there just go bang with all eyes on next year.” The break between the end of the home and away season and preseason training will help more than a few players i reckon.

  19. When will this club get serious about winning flags? Last year we made a prelim and got smashed but it was pats on the back for all. This year we've been garbage. Again. In my humble opinion, we wont be serious until we have an actual home. A real home. Not sharing with storm et al. With a social club for members etc. I appreciate finding a site for this is difficult but until we have this and stop accepting mediocrity we will never win a flag. Thoughts?

  24. Frost had a very good Frost year. Can he improve even further? He's the only player outside Max, Clarry and possibly Salem, Fritsch and Harmes who actually increased their trade value this year and trading any of them is in a different league from considering a Frost trade. Posters focussing on what we might get in return and those saying "sell high" are on the right track.

  25. Surely.. we are better off backing Sam Weideman in than chasing JJ He's a million years old and doesn't even play as a key forward. at least Weid has some talent and a future at the level if he can put it together.

  26. How I felt after the first few rounds this year after thinking we were a chance. "You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words" I'm backing them in to return to finals next year.

  27. I really want this bloke back at the Dees in some capacity. I rate him very highly. He was Cotchin-like in his behind the scenes work and standards while skipper at MFC. A dysfunctional club didn't help but he came through and never altered his professionalism and output. His 2nd season had me thinking "300 game champion right here"! Assistant coach? Player development role? Player or Coach Liaison between Casey and MFC. Just get him back and don't lose him again.

  28. His kicking on the run is technically bogus, he wobbles the ball as his runs and then his action is so mechanical that it makes it difficult to hit targets. Hence he favours going back over the mark. Fix the kicking technique and then get him backing his skills and he might just make it. I'm not annoyed we seem to be losing him I just think his development has been very poor.

  29. You know. One of the most embarrassing things I've seen at the footy was when I took my young kids over to the players race after the game (a loss) so they could see the players close up. The abuse the players were copping from grown men was an absolute disgrace. When I realised what was going on I gathered the kids up and shot through. That B SHYT is not the example of how adults are supposed to behave at the football. And ya know what ..... The post game abuse didn't help. We were crap the next week, and the week after that, and the ........

  31. it is not necessarily illogical for those clubs to be facing a closed window and us not to be despite the relative performances this year. How about we stop beating ourselves around the head until we see a few rounds in 2020.

  32. He’s a valuable player simply because he’s versitile, strong, mature and consistent. Having players like that mean you can shift them from role to role as injuries take their toll on various parts of the ground while maintaining team balance and cohesion. One issue (flaw) with several of our mids is they struggle to impact outside the midfield, so limit our flexibility to move them about. Tomlinson will be good for us.

  33. Great young player destroyed by injury. His career died slowly and many forget (or choose to forget) how good he was in his first two years. One of my favourites.

  35. And like so many Coaches before him, for example Dimma, Buckley, Thompson and even Clarkson, to name a few, who tasted some success, after calls for their dumping, Cameron has outlasted the doubters and got his side into the GF. Now the "experts" are calling for extending his contract. It's a fickle game.

  39. I don't watch enough gws games to have an informed opinion about Tomlinson. I'll back in our recruiting team to make the right call. But some of the comparisons and ratings on this thread are laughable. He has played almost every game for the giants for the last four years. In that time they have played finals every year, made 3 prelims and now a GF. And he has played all of them. Wh aa t does that say about his ability? Or maybe people think he us a coaches favorite or has photos

  42. New draftees won’t help. I disagree. If we hold pick 2 - Rowell or Anderson are ready to go in 2020. Straight into our best 22. If Gcs get priority and we hold pick 3 - Lachlan Ash is ready to go on a wing or half back. I agree in getting Langdon and some free agents, but don’t discount draftee making an impact.

  43. MFC are the last club that should be complaining about this. Our list has been equally mismanaged for even longer than they’ve been around and we’ve had our fair share of priorities. A stone best left unturned for us.

  44. If I recall correctly, Clarry credits his work ethic at Melbourne to Billy Stretch and how hard he trains. I think other players have made similar observations. Obviously you've got to bring more to the team than being a good trainer but if keeping Stretch on the list means pushing Clarry an extra 10% and getting the best out of some of your youngsters then he's not the worst player to keep on the list. Given he plays the position we need most, I'd keep him on the list unless we're confident we can pick up a bargain late in the draft (and that's all we'd get if the Suns traded for him)

  45. It’s not as though he hasn’t shown glimpses. For whatever reason we haven’t seen enough of them. Seems a ripping kid who you’d like to see do well. A move up north could be the making of him. He’d set a training standard for other draftees to follow and perhaps a leadership role will help his professionalism translate onto the field.

  46. No issues but i do think billy's development was hampered by our obsession with playing too many inside mids. We saw jones and tyson battling on the wings at times when a fit billy was in the twos. Like max said, our contested dominance in 2018 covered over the many cracks that were appearing elsewhere. We ignored the role of the wing and it has backfired massively. Hindsight yes, but astute people realised that 6-6-6 would elevate the role of the wing. Astute we were not. Now a wingman that had all the potential in the world (stretch was an under 18 all Australian) makes way so we can pursue another wingman who has been developed.

  47. That window has been deadlocked shut for 55 years, and I truly hope none of the players or staff think the 'window is ajar' as there's no chance they break the longest drought in football without a massive shift in attitude throughout the club.
