  1. Just for comparison sake (per game this year so far): Weideman (21 years old) - 1 goal, 1.8 tackles, 0.4 goal assists, 1.5 marks inside 50, 1.5 contested marks, 11.1 disposals at 73% efficiency. Hogan (24 years old) - 1.2 goals, 1 tackle, 0.4 goal assists, 1.8 marks inside 50, 1 contested mark, 15 disposals at 63.5 efficiency. Not saying Weideman is as good as Hogan of course, but I think Weideman is being harshly judged on his season thus far in the context of his age, injuries and our weaknesses as a team with forward structure/coaching, delivery forward and consistency of personnel. To paint our issues as merely the fault of Weideman and McDonald is very shallow analysis.

  2. The wya some posters "think" you could draw the conclusion that the kid is a mixture of Trump, Stalin, plus wgatever evil comes into our mind. He is a young bloke who has been given a chance to play AFL and I would be absolutely suprised if he does not give everything when he is preparing and playing. I think sometimes in our criticism of a player ( and it had happened often e.g. Watts, Lewis, Weideman etc) we make blanket statements and refuse to acknowledge team efforts or any efforts at all. Have noted he is not playing @ Casey hence he has not played ( I could be wrong) since being demoted . Let's cut some slack for the kid.

  3. I think it is easy to forget how good he was at times last year. Happy to see him sign on for another 2.

  4. We should experiment & try some of our fringe players in different positions. OMac was a forward as a junior it might help me reignite his career.

  5. It really is in a bad way. 24 to 31 used to be the score 10 minutes into the first quarter. Now it’s the half time score. Players are boring robots, very few characters. The few characters there are are social media vvankers. Skills are shocking. Coaching teams spend 2-3 preseasons working on a game plan and style, guess what, forget that we’re changing all the rules again. Dees are [censored]. It’s all [censored].

  6. Unfortunately on these type of internet forums supporters want all players to be superstars from game 1 otherwise they turn very quickly. Not all players will make it (actually a lot don't) and some might play 50-100 games as pure role players but they are vital to the team, others take years to develop then become very good players. However along the way a lot of those that take time to come good get bagged out at every opportunity, at the moment we've got Harmes, Gawn, Frost, Jones, Hunt, ANB and TMac (just from this weeks team) who've at one stage or another been called a spud, called to be delisted or traded or 'never to play again' on this forum alone. Gets very tiresome

  7. He has played a total of five games at Casey in his career. Clearly enough to warrant 18 games in the one's. Agreed he needs time in the two's to find form again but to say at 19 years of age he is a list clogger who has never dominated at Casy is WAY off the mark

  8. One day I hope the site admin makes the decision to ban posters for rubbishing our young players as spuds. The kid has a couple of games under his belt and is developing pretty well in my eyes. Btw, I love the ignore function on this site.

  9. Precisely. Absolute silence from the MFC about his disappearance. I suspect the worst, namely he's not doing too well. If that's the case I wish him all the best and I have no doubt the armchair experts on this site, the same manic naysayers who comment on and foretell the worst case scenario on gameday posts would have contributed to any lack of confidence he might be experiencing.

  12. I absolutely detest Thursday night football (other than when the following day is a public holiday). I'm not ready for it and it also diminishes the enjoyment of football on the subsequent Saturday and Sunday because there is one fewer game to follow. Having it in the same weeks as some teams have a bye and there is football on a Monday (Queen's Birthday) just makes it worse as the football product just seems sporadic rather than intense. But maybe that's just me...

  13. He's a genius Paul Roos. Why go for the $1.5m/year and all those sleepless nights when you can take $500k to swing by for a latte and croissant and shoot the breeze every other week, attach your name to another sure fire rising success and keep the door open for an even bigger jackpot somewhere else later on. 14. Simon Goodwin has just spoken to the media ahead of tomorrow's clash with Fremantle. As a coaching group we wanted to look at ways that we could improve as a footy club. We think development is a really big part of our footy club and we are going back to the core of what we think really drives the development of our team. Goodwin on Lever: He’ll hopefully only miss one week, he’s got some bone bruising from the incident in the Collingwood game. It’s not his ACL so that’s a real positive for us. Goodwin on Hibberd: That plate that he had surgery on just lifted off the bone, he had that operated on straight after Queen’s Birthday so he’ll miss this week but be back next week. Goodwin on Hogan: Steven May will play on him, which we are looking forward to seeing. Two really good players, I think that’s going to be a great matchup for all of our supporters to watch. Goodwin on McDonald: He’s an important player for us, he’s a leader, we play him as a forward because we have a very inexperienced forward half. We need our experienced players out there, we need Tom McDonald to stand up for us and that’s what we are looking for him to do. We asked our players to take responsibility and look at the opportunities. They have looked at their opportunities individually and collectively as a team. We are not going to wait until the end of the year to reset and get better. We’ve tried to use the break as an opportunity to reset and say, how can we get better? We have implemented some things and the proof will be in the pudding. That’s all from Goody. MFC Twitter: https://twitter.com/melbournefc/status/1141850586762977281

  15. It really is. I switched over from last night's Wc v Ess game halfway the through second quarter to watch John Candy in the mid-80's comedy classic 'Uncle Buck'. I thoroughly enjoyed it and didn't switch back again. Only last halfway through the second of tonight's game. The AFL product quality is diminishing. It was never this boring in the 80's, 90's and 00's. The thrills are being suffocated out of it.

  16. Absolute garbage. This game, the state of the game in general.

  17. Any player who places a bet on himself to do anything in a game, including kicking goals, is not being a team player. He is being selfish and looking to influence some part of the game, no matter how small it may be. What next, to pass it to another player who he backed to kick X number of goals? It can begin to be a bit murky when a player starts dabbling in this kind of betting. That is why the rules are there, and everyone is told what they are. As you pointed out, the little things may seem insignificant, but they could turn out to be the thin end of the wedge.

  18. I didn't realise Brad Hill was still only 25 (26 in a couple of weeks). Interesting to see his recorded disposal efficiency (generally between 65-68%) isn't super high as might have thought it would be. However, he does get the ball inside 50, and effectively, he gains a LOT of ground, which you'd expect since he kicks three times more than he handballs. He is not a god of football, not a perfect player, but oh yes he would be supremely useful for us right now and for the forseeable future. Stephen Hill is a bit old but also a free agent. Would be a tricky balancing act of risk-reward given that he is showing signs of aging (with the recurrent quad problem the headline), a particlarly problem when your game uses so much speed and agility. I worry that if a trade did happen, Freo might want to use Hill as part of a package (swap of 1st-rnd picks) to get right to the top end of the draft, and I'm not keen on giving away any early pick that might come our way. Best solution as I see it, is for us to win a bunch of games, end up with our first pick being around 7 or 8, so we can talk about pick swapping without the angst of giving away a shot at absolute top-end talent. As with all things, best solution is to win more games.

  19. Big yes to Hill, sign his brother up as a free agent as well if that's what's needed. Freo paid pick 23 for him 3 years ago and he's still got 2 years on his contract to go so he'll be around the same price again I'd say. Let's hope he was mates with Jordy so he can get in his ear, if the rumor is true, coming from Denham though it probably a crook of siht.

  20. Yes UGTBK i see your point buut,.... he kicked a goal from 65m that normally would have been a kick to inside 50, when your 40pts up and not necessarily a score. He also kicked 3 goals that day. Although he may not have been meaning to changing an outcome, you can argue that a higher score results in a higher %. WE did miss 2017 finals by 1/2 a %. Whilst its a fairly long bow, its still relevant i think. You think there are Demon players backing themselves to kick 3 goals? I wish.

  21. Massive yes from me. He’s pretty much the perfect wingman and exact type of player we are crying out for with his running and kicking skills. Our second round pick will be higher than nearly all others unless we win some pointless games and [censored] it up. I’d throw up our second rounder and hope it’s enough.

  23. I wonder if Rawlings pushed for Fritsch forward. I hope he gets a good couple of games in the forward line to prove himself. He's a natural up there I reckon

  24. I reckon Weideman isn't far away from a break out 4 goal game. Had he nailed his last set shot V's Collingwood he would've had a nice 3 goal performance against Darcy Moore who's clearly one of the premier key defenders in the league. Slowly but surely he's getting there.

  30. Personally I think it's come from 2 kicks in particular. Both kicks were shanks after gut running efforts where he was totally stuffed. 1 of those ended with a tackle and holding the ball free, but then he was called to play on for no reason and put under more pressure. I remember thinking at the time he's going to get crucified on here for that, regardless of the circumstances. I can't recall the games sorry.

  31. I don't mind it if Fritsch actually lines up as selected in the forward line. Great mark and very good kick for goal. Will do a lot for his confidence as he looks a bit lost as a defender. He will be at least one player back in his natural position. Now to put Gus back where he belongs in the middle. With the change of coaches our line ups and positional changes during the game will be interesting to watch as will our ball movement. Hopefully, more control than manic play on. And hopefully if Oliver gets 25-35 possessions they have an impact and gain more than 55mts! We need him to get much more value for his work.

  33. What's with this story the keeps getting perpetuated that he has a small kicking limit?? I don't get that people cannot see that this is not true. I can think of at least 3 goals he has kicked - and his last one against Collingwood was at least 40-45m out and went through above head hight... check out this clip here for evidence (1.05 mark) I'd almost argue he has a larger kicking range than Hogan.

  36. Lever gets "bone bruising" from a match almost two weeks ago. No reports. No news. Nothing. Then, two days before the next game. "Yeah nah he's injured." I am absolutely done with this amateur club. I was already tossing up whether to waste my Saturday but I'm not going. What embarrassing player management. But that's not even the main issue for mine. The club is treating members with contempt, and like idiots. I'm sick of it.

  37. Like it. I've heard far worse suggestions. Though I think the FD would also have considered this. Omac is still relatively young, strikes me as a role player that needs time to develop and increase his strength. Maybe his best position is yet to be determined. (Queue the Omac haters...)

  42. If I remember correctly, Roosy originally publicly said he wasn't interested in coaching the MFC either. Not saying that means he will end up at CarlsIcum or not, but just that until the new coach of the scum is named, that we shouldn't completely dismiss it either. I really do hope that Carlton get the coach they deserve, i.e. one that keeps them out of finals and anything that remotely smells like sucess for another 20 or 30 years. Carlton are currently ahead of us as being the least sucessfull team this century and let's hope that we put a complete gulf between us and them over the next 2 - 5 years. I want it to get soo bad for them that Carlton are part of the talk of relocation to Tasmania, a third Sydney side or maybe a merger with North. LET them feel some more PAAAAIN
