  1. Pretty poor form here considering he went down today and if it's a serious injury could really jeopardize a young guys career.

  2. Goodwin has said that Harmes will definitely be right to go for Round 1. Just a dislocation that pierced the skin. Fritsch and Joel Smith will be fine as well, JKH out for a while but not ACL.

  3. The road to Cranbourne is open in the summer months. Take plenty of water, and provisions for three days, and extra fuel. Notify police before you go, including your car rego and expected date of arrival. There is no mobile phone coverage, so two-way radios will be useful, as will flares and matches, whistles and mirrors in case of emergency. Once you safely arrive in Cranbourne, you will be able to re-provision for the second leg to Cranbourne East, where the same precautions will be necessary. Good luck, and may God watch over those poor brave souls. (And, GO DEMONS!)

  4. Chandler the standout that quarter. 2 goals, should have had 3, a pack mark and a lovely pass to Jones who missed. Jordan impressed off half back. Petty solid. Sparrow quiet. Melk very good that quarter. Preuss dominant. You won't need a jumper out here.

  5. Viney looks like a bull at the gates out there. One bit of play he tackled a bloke, pried the footy from his grasp & bollocked his way through 3 guys before he got the clearance. Can’t wait to see him unleashed in round 1. ?

  6. Bradke two from contested marks. Jones and Viney leather poisoning.

  7. So let's put the result aside. If we're being honest, it's meaningless at the moment. I think we are a side that is still coming to terms with a new(ish) gameplan that has to fit into the 6-6-6 model. We know that Goody loves to use two players off the square and we can't do that now. It will take time to get used to, and we saw that today. Sometimes we looked excellent, other times we were left exposed. That may happen early in the year and we might need to be a little patient with that. Also, we took in less players and then had both JKH and Harmes go down. That hurt rotations and it showed for most of the second half. That can't be ignored. The positives for me - Brayshaw and AVB looked good, with AVB having a huge amount of tackles. I think Joel Smith gives us something good up forward and kicking four is a sign of that. Whether or not they can slot him into the Round 1 side is the big question, but he deserves to be in the conversation. I think our backline will be fine too, and we added a number of players who were having their first run for the year. They'll be much better for the game. Obviously, we need to tighten up on our forward pressure and our skills a little, but that's what JLT is for. Skills are never top notch in March. With Viney, Jones and Melksham to add to the lineup, it will take out a few others and we'll be a better side, especially around the ball. The injuries are a negative too, but if Harmes is okay and it's not too long term, then we've done okay there too with the next game a fortnight away. No slitting of wrists or worries for me and it hasn't dampened my enthusiasm for Round 1. Bring it on!

  10. Hope Goody told the boys to aim the tackles on Mathieson at his ankles. End result should be a legitimate tackle around the waist area.

  11. I'm checking out for 10 days... The overreacting on here is embarrassing. JLT means nothing, I have no less confidence in us then I did 2 weeks ago. We'll romp Port in 14 days time

  14. Brisbane look quicker, more skilful, smarter, better coached, better in the air and far better on the ground. Apart from that we’ve been good.

  16. Harmes played the week after surgery on a broken hand last year, don’t think a dislocated finger (even a compound one) will keep him out with a 2 week break.

  17. Keilty got found out a bit today, did a couple of nice things but was otherwise quiet. In his defence the rotations were screwed up. It was supposed to be him and Max rotating between forward and ruck but that didn’t happen as well as it should have. As such he wasn’t able to get settled and found himself out of position a lot. Was pretty awesome seeing him line up on Hodge though.

  20. 2nd quarter was good footy, the hope is that's more of what we can do. Unfortunately the same errors over and over again are not helping my confidence. How many times can we spoil each others marks, over run contests and bomb the ball in forward? Brisbane replaced their injured ruck and played 3 fresh players to use a full 26, we lost 2 and had 2 more hobbling from our 23, so the scoreboard result which flattered us is somewhat ok. But it's going to take some serious coaching to fix some big errors in the game and we'll be going in to round 1 with some personnel that don't fill me with confidence. Backline: May - ok start considering, hopefully not suspended Salem - just ok Hibberd - up and down Jetta - very solid Lewis - some good but he still [censored] himself and offers little defensively, another slow player ------------------------------------------------- Oscar - awful, slow to defend, slow to attack, chest marks the ball from the ground which makes him easy to tackle, loses his feet Hore - not up with the pace of the game Mids: Gawn - very good Oliver - not his best but whatever Gus - has to find his kicking range Petracca - excellent first half, where's the second? Vanders - scrappy Fritsch - some good then injured -------------------------------- Harmes - injured Stretch - slow to make decisions and his wobbly ball drop really hurts his kicking and rhythm with the ball, isn't a fluent player. Nope Forwards: Weid: Did ok Tommy - scrappy but give him time Spargo - some nice things but not his best ---------------------------------------------------- ANB - a long way from his best with fumbles, not holding tackles and even been slow to chase at times Hunt - I can see why they tried it but a hot start obscured some ordinary play J Smith: 4 goals flattered him, some ok efforts up the ground but too many errors leaping for the ball JKH - injured Keilty - better in the ruck but nothing stood out forward Viney, Jones and Melksham should help but we'll still be going in to round 1 with a number of players we can't be sure of and with doubts about the outside run and quality in the forward line.

  21. Of course they did. They're a young side who want to improve and the JLT is a chance for them to build up a few wins and get their confidence up for Round 1. They'll need it. We don't. With a later start to the pre-season we've had to manage the players differently and I think it's showed over the last two games. Good in patches, not so good in patches and plenty of silly mistakes. We haven't had a pre-season like it since the last time we played finals, so this is new territory for most players.

  28. To put things in perspective - the Tigers are currently 7 goals down at half time in their game against Hawthorn. You think that changes anything for them going forward? Of course not. We'll be fine.

  29. This. The Swannies and Hawforn made an artform about building into the season proper. The preseason comp is made for tweaking the gameplan and experimenting. Our boys will be a different proposition by mid-season if things go as i suspect they will. 2 losses this year doesn't mean the same as 2 losses in previous seasons. We are a much better side who will take time to adjust to a new Key backman, and yet another who is still to return. Add our 2 Captains, Melksham, play for 4 points and we a completely different team. Long term we still look good. This is no time for despair. (Or even worry) Still, we didnt look very good today

  41. Loved and hated him as a player. Hated him because he was so good against us. Terrible commentator. Commented early that Steph Martin was clever for pushing forward and dragging Max back with him. Make Max play back which he isnt comfortable with and take away his ability to push forward. Will try to wear Max out. It's like Riewoldt hasn't seen Max play. 1. Max goes back regularly. It's one of the main reasons why he is so good. He goes forward, back, midfield and takes the majority of the hit outs. 2. Max is the fittest ruck man in the comp. If anything Martin will wear himself out before Max.

  43. He's probably been the worst drop off in form since last year. He'll never be a star, but was always working hard and contributing. This preseason he has been pathetic in every aspect of the game and doesn't warrant a place in the team come round 1.

  45. Sorry didn’t realise you were part of the match committee, the club has said they want weed and McDonald to play forward, if keilty plays the ruck forward roll well he will come into calculations for round 1 imo

  46. Cranbourne and environs moving towards the beach backroads used to be a great weekend trek in the EH wagon, filled with beer and good blokes, and there were some good little spots to put up the marquis, light a campfire and toss around a few director's chairs for some serious refreshments and malted nutrition. Sunday night return via the pubs along the Nepean Hwy for good tucker, and for dessert, some nice eye-candy. The Dees were starting to go downhill, after the '65 Grand Final back then ... but fond memories of that environment are hard to cast off.

  47. In the end the whole thing ended in a way not many could see ... we hadn't had a 'shocker' for quite some time but these things often happen when you least expect it. But I have always felt that you learn more from a loss than a victory and lets face it, we weren't the finished product last year and we probably aren't going to be the absolute finished product this year ... however, we may not need to be as a team these days doesn't have to be a super-team to win big. We've got 15+ bona-fide good players on the list so that gives me the confidence to know that if we're switched on and have a reasonable run with injuries, we can have a very good year. Last year was another terrific stepping stone and the overall year was infinitely better than any number of previous seasons. That comment doesn't mean that I was at all fully satisfied but it was by no means a failed season. Far from it. I love Goodwin's attitude though and if I was a player I would use that last loss as huge motivation. And I reckon we'll see what the team is all about early in the season. I'm tipping we'll hit the ground running.

  48. Jebus: 'Casey Fields is located approximately 50km from Melbourne CBD in Cranbourne East.' Not only does Cranbourne East sound like a truly horrible place, but I had no idea it was so far from Melbourne, you know, the name on our can. It's basically an away game. Someone needs to take the blame for this travesty - and I doubt it's Jack Watts' fault, as there doesn't seem to be much in the way of top-shelf swimming and [censored] opportunities in the near vicinity.

  49. So pleasing to see our good players signed up before the start of the season. Got totally sick of the constant speculation from the media about whether one of our champion young players were going to stay or leave, causing a distraction during the season. Time to keep eyes on the prize. All focus should be on the Premiership now. Let's all enjoy the ride.
