I think it's important people remember back to Pederson's first season at Melbourne when he was seen as one of the worst recruits to the club in a long while. A lot can change in a preseason and speaking with certainty that Smith cant contribute is shockingly shortsighted.

It is very early to assess where we may land. We have had a couple of years of relatively minimal injuries. We brought back Vanders and Viney isnt out of the woods quite yet. We also had a pretty big pre-christmas walking wounded that although we are reassured that most if not all will be in full training next week, Im not so confidant. I hope Tom Mac is able to play most games. You only need to look at a couple of other clubs, say Carlton and Giants to be reminded of our good management and good luck with injuries lately. I feel confidant knowing that my team of the year 2019 will probably be quite different by Queens birthday but I am really impressed with the apparent struggle for every spot in the 22 coming into the year. Quality on all lines and on the bench. Hmm, Im sure I say that nearly every January.

I'm with you Werridee. Love a pre-emptive 22. My mates do them all off-season. After draft day. After trade week. They're fun. Hore is a break in case of emergency guy. He'll come in for maybe 6 games as our KP defenders struggle or get hurt. OMac as usual is the whipping boy, but people do seem to forget the match committee absolutely love him. He played every game last year for some reason. Demonlanders should probably get on board, or at least understand he will get picked despite what they think. I reckon you always have to earmark one, maybe two surprises in there as well. Goody loves to play a debutant round 1. Fritsch last year. Smith the year before that. I feel like with Oliver rehabbing they might get Sparrow a game, as he's physically ready.

Probably done before at some stage but here is my dream forward line : Farmer Jakovich Neitz Lyon Schwartz Jurrah Couldn't fit in some greats here, such as Norm Smith and others like Robbo and Darren Bennett and can't yet find a place for current players. Not sure whether Fred Fanning should be on some sort of forward line interchange with others.

It’s a pity we opted for Paine as skipper. Wade is no worse as a keeper( though both are ordinary), but he’s a much better bat. Our batting would look much stronger with Wade at 7 instead of Paine, and someone else captaining(? Hazlewood), till Smith is available as capt. again.

From the revival in 1987 until today, I agree that this group of 6 is the best combination of pure skill, talent and footy smarts. The tragedy is that only one (Neitz) played a full career at the dees without injury or other mishap. I weep when I recall the lost opportunity that, excluding only Jurrah, the rest could have been playing together in the nineties if not for injury to Jakovich, Lyon and Schwarz. Balme's time as coach was blighted by their injuries (as well as G Lovett, Tingay, Prymke). Placing them in the best combination in their best positions would be a nightmare. But Jakovich must play at full forward. The rest can play anywhere.

Yeah I agree with that. Even though his disposal is sometimes deplorable the rest of him makes him an important member of the team

my biggest gripe with Foxtel and has always been so is that I only want certain channels. unfortunately each of those is in a different package... so you just get all of it! would much rather just get what I want and not pay for everything else. I think most people think that way and a lot of channels would die as a result.... however if they die is there really a market for them to begin with!

I don’t see how one can say that Smith “is a better forward than Pedersen”: sure he may become one but is entirely an unknown quantity at this stage. But Pedersen has run his race,and Smith is still in the running. And I do agree that this whole thread is anything other than comparing like with like, which at least to me makes it fairly meaningless

Can't doubt his commitment to the club and hasn't broken any laws. We have all been on a bender in the past and good luck to him what he does during his break as long as mentally he is ok

I listened and it was pretty dull. Most of the questioning was of the style of "I think this, I think that, I will expound at some length, what do you think about that?" Hib response: "yeah, nah, I reckon that's about right." Eg one of the two hosts said that Nathan Jones hogs most of the publicity events for MFC. Gawn has overtaken him for fame but NJ's inked up arms are more famous again. Hib: "yeah that's about right" But at this time of year, can't really expect anything too earth-shattering. The "highlights": Missed out on meeting Natalie Portman as the "older boys" were not back at training. Club hit a brick wall in the prelim. Didn't review it much as a group. Put it behind them. "The way we play is right but need to do it on the big stage" Thought WC would win GF based on prelim. Is May overweight? Maybe by a kg or two but so far, doing drills, he has fitted straight in. KK also fit in quickly, to play on wing? Lever will leave no stone unturned to get fit. How to fit in all of them including OMac & Frost? Maybe play May at FF at times. Is club ready for 6 on 6? Haven't gone through that yet. Mostly fitness, getting used to contact. Doesn't expect things to change much, although Adelaide playing 2 spare won't happen. Teams will find ways to counteract it. Fortunately Hib plays footy better than he interviews but that's mostly on the hosts who saved his voice by suggesting the answers in the questions. I reckon they spoke at least as much as Hib.
