  1. Welcome to Melbourne Jesse Hogan.

  2. Seriously, Jesse doesn't deserve this crap. Freo made an in principle agreement with his manager (which is how the process should work). There is no way his manager would have let him tour Freo or do a medical if the deal couldn't get done. Now they serve him this rubbish. As if the kid hasn't had enough kicks from life. Get his hopes up and then pull the rug out. Just despicable of Freo to the club, Jesse's manager and most of all to Jesse. I really feel for Jesse. This is not of his making.

  3. Well if Jessie doesn’t get an offer from North Melbourne then he has every right to feel insulted.

  7. Sorry GYM can't have this. If anything our reputation is enhanced. We made it abundantly clear what was required to get the deal done and didn't play any silly games. Rock solid. No leaks and no stupid posturing. In short, honest. A good club to deal with. Freo on the other hand clearly leaked stuff to the media and allowed silly stories to get legs. Then walked back on a commitment to jessie by low balling him. A [censored] club to deal with. One thing I am really hating is the borderline character assassination of jessie. He's our player. Get the [censored] around him.

  9. It would seem that the whispers I heard a few days ago were correct with regard to the situation within Freo. I had not heard, however, just how badly they were handling the possible trade. If as I heard, they were not 100% committed to making the deal, they should have walked away without making a silly offer that was never going to be accepted. It has done their reputation no good what so ever. From the statement Bell made, the only reason they made the offer was so they could say "well we tried and Melbourne wanted too much". In the broader football world, all the other clubs understand what has transpired. I think Melbourne has been very transparent with the way they have handled the situation. Hogan wanted to explore his options and the club, with a clear understanding of what he has been through over the last few years, agreed to allow him to look around. that agreement came with a clear indication that if he wanted to move, we would need to get fair compensation. This is out in the public forum. What was never stated in public by Hogan or his management is that Hogan wanted to be traded to Freo at this time. I believe that this is significant. Melbourne has come out of this with it's reputation enhanced and this will stand us in good stead in the future, not only with other clubs but also with players. I do not think there will be any further discussion on a possible move to Freo this trade period. It will be very interesting to see what the response is from the club and Hogan in the medium term with regard to a possible contract extension. Do not be surprised if the club gets the May deal done.

  10. Alarm bells went off when Bell initially used the phrase 'feather in my cap'. In other words, it's quickly become all about him and not the outcome. Now Hogan's worth significantly more than pick 11 (even taking into account my obvious bias) but the problem is that Bell is more interested in being seen as the smartest guy in the room. The deal won't get done because of an over -inflated ego and whilst in may or may not be a setback for us short term, it's a problem for Freo in the longer term.

  11. Not everyone. As I posted as soon as I heard the news, I could not be happier. Fair dinkum this kid is a total gun. One of the most talented players I have seen at the dees. His output is all people should be worrying about. And his numbers as re the equal of the best forwards at the same age. I mean I can barely believe dees fans of all people querying that. Off field Schmoff field. Look at what the kid had had to deal with in the last 6 years. Leaves his close knit family (and his ill dad - his best mate) to go to the other side of the country to a club in total disarray. At 17. Has to play a season for Casey in the vfl (and dominates) before making his senior debut as the number one forward. At 18. Meets the high expectations and then some, averaging 2 goals a game. Deals with the death of his dad and then soon after, as he is grappling with mortality, is diagnosed with cancer. Jesus. Who wouldn't have some 'issues'. But issues notwithstanding, all the while trains hard and performs on game day. For our club. Can't believe some of the grief he is getting in this thread. Made worse by the fact that anyone posting here is a dedicated fan.

  12. If Adam Treloar, Bryce Gibbs are worth two first round picks. Jesse Hogan is ? % worth two first rounders. To say he isn’t is short sighted and clearly haven’t seen many of his games.

  14. Would you walk into your local Ferrari dealership and offer $2000 for an F40 because that’s all you have? The initial offer wasn’t a way of ‘softening’ us up, Bell’s just an idiot.

  16. I'm still not convinced it's over, but if it is so be it. I'm left with the feeling that Hogan really is a strange unit. He came to the Dees at our lowest ebb. He sat in the stands and saw 2013. He's seen us evolve and grow into a prelim team and just when we're on the precipice of long-term success he wants to go to a bottom 6 team during his prime years. Not only is Hogan a strange cat I wonder if he's as thick as a brick. I wonder what drives him. Maybe he's not the competitive beast I'd hoped for. Clearly, he doesn't crave a flag. If 5 and 23 is on the table between now and Wednesday I'd personally do the deal. Unlike some others I think May would structurally make us complete and almost the flag favourite in 2019. I've been a massive Hogan fan, but he seems NQR to me.

Well, I guess he won't get the 'feather in his cap' he was bragging about! Good on Neale for sticking to his guns. If he had had thoughts of staying, the shenanigans by Bell this week would have convinced him to keep running as fast as he can!

  23. Perhaps this is fantasyland talk (but hey isn't that half of what DLand is all about!) but this could perhaps end up being a similar spur on that Dustin Martin got when he shopped himself around. It of course depends on the character of the bloke but he can choose to make this a positive for 2019 and beyond by saying to himself, "screw Freo for stuffing me around", recommit to us and come out fit and firing for next year ready to prove he belongs in the competitions elite. It's also on his teammates to make sure in no uncertain terms they are glad he's still with us, and try to make him more of a Demon.

  24. Scenes at Freo headquarters. The President of the Fremantle Football Club: so how did the trade week go, Peter? Peter Bell: great! We showed them east coast guys a thing or two. PoFFC: and how did we go with the Hogan trade? Peter Bell: Ha! Ha! We didn’t get him. PoFFC: Didn’t get him? I thought we were after him? PB: Oh we were, believe me! PoFFC: So what happened? PB: They come up against old “Nails” Bell! PoFFC: I don’t understand. Didn’t they ask a fair price? PB: Oh yes! Very fair. But they come up against a hardarse balls-out negotiator! PoFFC: Hang on. You mean we could have got him? PB: Yep! PoFFC: But we didn’t get him? PB: Nup! PoFFC: How close were we? PB: Close as, mate! All I had to do was stick out me hand and shake! PoFFC: So let me get this clear. We wanted him. PB: Hell yes! PoFFC: They asked a fair price. PB: Yep! PoFFC: But we refused and now we don’t have him. PB: Yep! A few of those east coast boys will be licking their wounds tonight!

  28. You can't be serious. Mahoney could not have played it anymore on the down low if he tried. Basically said nothing publically except our non negotiable is two first round picks. Which, by the way was a public statement of how highly we rate jessie. For christ sake jessie 'toured their facility'. How could he keep freos interest out of the public domain?

  30. Onya Dom. Was an important part of the rebuild, and is pretty unlucky that we managed to build an even stronger midfield underneath him. Hopefully he can be a starting inside mid at North. Finally, some AFL quality Gawn insurance. I think many underestimate the value of this. Preuss won’t be intending to play for Casey though, he’ll want to demonstrate that he can support Gawn in the Melbourne side (or maybe even attempt to pass him if he’s ambitious enough). Really looking forward to seeing how he gets used.

  31. You need to retrain how your brain works. Tyson is purely an inside mid. He's behind Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw, and Harmes, which is why he was pushed out to a wing. If we had a decent outside runner he wouldn't have been playing finals. Kolodjashnij will make life even tougher next year. If Gawn goes down we're cactus. Being able to secure a young ruck entering his prime years is a massive coup. We couldn't get better insurance.

  32. Sorry but this is a rubbish post. Fremantle tapped Jesse up and knocked on our door, never the other way ‘round. The MFC has handled itself with class and dignity in this thing unlike our pea brained purple counterparts.

  35. As a Perth Based Demon, I do feel the need to make a few comments. Admittedly I do go to Eagles Games (Wife is a supporter, but loves the Dees too). I have many friends who support either the Dockers or WCE. What has become apparent is the Docker supporters are done. They do not match WCE in an area and many who jumped on the train to Freo in 1995, are now jumping off it. On field they are a rabble Off field they are not looking to flash their trades over the past years have been questionable their members have been told to pay more for their seats (a lot more as they stuffed up the cats at Optus Members are not renewing memberships The coach is hated The players from what I understand are not big on Fyfe (rumour) Unfortunately they had a chance to secure the one thing that has been missing for a long time at Freo. It goes to show that Freo lack any smarts. They drafted down, and didn't get what they wanted. Lobb is a good player but had they got Hogan aswell! I personally am glad they never got him and for Jesse sake hope he has a stellar year next year as a Coleman Medalist and Premiership player. Good luck to Freo and I hope the Dee's play them at the G or Optus next year so i can attend and enjoy Hogan kicking 7 goals against them and listening to their supporters moan and groan, all 12 of them!

  37. AFL Site article sums it up nicely. " MELBOURNE is still waiting for a reasonable offer from Fremantle for key forward Jesse Hogan, Demons football manager Josh Mahoney says. Hogan, 23, has told the Demons he would be open to a trade back to his home state of Western Australia and toured the Fremantle facilities last week. The Demons reportedly rejected the Dockers' first offer for Hogan on Thursday, which included pick No.11 and a future second-round draft selection. "Jesse came to us and said he wants to explore the opportunity," Mahoney said. "Basically, if Fremantle want to get Jesse Hogan, they know the deal they have to give for us and Jesse's aware of that. "They haven't spoken to us about anything that entertains us at all about doing a deal." Melbourne is also in the race for Gold Coast captain Steven May, but Mahoney made it clear that the Hogan deal will take precedence before any discussions take place with the Suns. "We've got other deals we want to do," Mahoney said. "At the moment the offer they're giving to us doesn’t help us in any way."

  38. Thanks for your contribution to the MFC Dom, provided us with some good service for a few years. I really value the contribution of these players that joined us when we were a very ordanary side, battled their hearts out, helped us to improve and have victories along the way, without which, I don't think the side would be what it now is. Was very glad the Dom got the opertunity to be part of our late season sucess and share in some of the joy after the lack of sucess during his first few years. All the best for the future Dom.

  40. From the AFL site summing up the clubs, this is ours: If there's one club which has become ruthless in every facet of its operation ... then it is this one. It is all-in on the pursuit of success. It could still end up ugly. But we love the bull-at-a-gate desperation it is displaying on and off field.

  41. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/docker-shocker-as-freo-pull-pin-on-hogan-pursuit-20181012-p509d7.html Melbourne are furious after the Dockers declared on Friday they were no longer pursuing Demons forward Jesse Hogan, having backflipped on an in-principle agreement with his management to offer Melbourne pick No.6 for the 23-year-old. How underhanded is that - to turn around and trade it to Port. I knew Bell couldn't be trusted. Had they not made that in principle agreement, this would not have ever got to first base. It is one thing to p-ss off MFC but not a good idea to p-ss off Jesse's manager by reneging on the deal. It just makes the manager look a bit foolish to not get the deal done for his player. So, don't like Freo's chances of Jesse's manager knocking on their door again!
