  1. Long shot guys. I have a vintage Dees scarf that was left at Richmond station on Friday night. Passenger was likely on a midnight Glen Waverley train. It has a dees patch, original Gary Lyon badge and a 10 year member pin. Its a beauty and I’m sure there’s someone out there that is rueing it’s loss! let me know if any one knows who’s it is! Go dees!

  2. Harmes gave some credit to retiring teammate Bernie Vince for his emergence as a genuine head-to-head midfielder, saying the veteran Demon had helped him grow on and off the field. “He’s taught me a little bit — I probably try to keep my elbows in a bit more than Bernie though."

  3. I'd prefer Harmes to go to O'Meara. Mitchell is going to do Mitchell stuff and Viney can keep a watch on him if it looks like getting out of hand. Shut down O'Meara and keep Mitchell under reasonable control and it goes a long way to winning the match.

  4. I'll tell you what they're not saying at Hawthorn. - Lets get our plane and finals tickets for Perth. FFS this game still has to be played and won. Hawthorn are a very proud club, they will come out intent on atoning for last weeks defeat. They have a very crafty coach who will put a lot of time into negating the way we like to play. Last week we played the 8th ranked team in the finals, they played the 1st ranked team. They smashed us in round 4. If we don't show them the right amount of respect we will be in big trouble.

  5. As my 9 year old Son told me last night after I spoke to him around our Rnd 4 loss to the Hawks.... Keep in mind he has a mind like Bruce McAvaney Dad - "Gawn will have his work cut out for him in the ruck against McEvoy & Ceglar" Son - "What? Gawn had 66 hit outs against McEvoy in Round 4 and Ceglar is $.hit!" Dad - "Ok then ?"

  7. Well done for trying to find the owner.... I had the same thing happen to me on Friday night... I found a tissue laying on the ground just outside the Cricketer's Arms just before midnight and went on the hunt to find it's owner... Fair to say a Geelong supporter walking past claimed it within 5 minutes

  10. I'm 45ish in age. I'm running late for work. I just picked up my boys soft 'inside' footy. I turned, lowered my eyes, spotted a leading T-Mac coming up the passage way, defensive pressure made me go onto my left, I skewed it...hit my wife's newly potted succulent on her desk, the pot fell, hit her warm coffee, coffee spills, soil mixes in with this, on the macbook...as she is working at her desk she's not happy. Said I'm worse than the kids, threw the ball at me...I caught it on the turn, I snapped right...GOAL! The computer is [censored]!

  11. "We didn't see that coming." It was the most memorable line of Mark Neeld's tenure and funniest depending on how you do your humour. It came after a 79-point Rd 1 smashing at the MCG to Port Adelaide in 2013 and followed a dismal pre-season where similar beltings had ensued. Blind Freddie could have seen it coming, but not Mr Neeld. Simon Goodwin faces a similar moment in the next two games - assuming we survive the first one, which I think we will. The bandwagon is rolling and the wave of euphoria is hitting everyone - even our coach. It was the same in 1987 and it was similar for the Dogs in 2016 and Tigers of 2017. One of the hardest things for any coach is to make changes in September unless they are forced on them. The side's momentum is growing, everyone is putting in and it's blood hard to make a tough call on a player for team balance. You got a glimpse of how hard it was when JKH was left out for the skipper and Goody's presser became a virtual JKH eulogy. Last week he must have been secretly hoping Dom Tyson hand wouldn't have come up, just so that he could make the call that he wanted to do - the Joel Smith call. But then the Cats realised that Esava wasn't ready and pulled the pin on a third tall forward and the Joel Smith call wasn't needed. The next two week's Goody has no such luxury. He can stick with the status quo and if he loses a big forward or defender (injuries do happen, just ask Brad Sheppard or Ben Stratton), he then has to put up with a wave of criticism about why he didn't have a back-up plan. Of course if we win, all is forgiven. But if we lose, we all jump up and down like armchair experts do in between stubbies and say: "You'd think he would have organised that better." Making the situation worse is that Hawthorn and West Coast have adopted big sides - we aren't playing a bunch of pesky little midgets like the Tigers. The Hawks will have Roughead, Gunston and most likely Schoenmakers (Ceglar will be chopped) for us to combat. The Eagles go even bigger - Kennedy, Vardy and Darling. Now I know we all love Jetta and Hibberd, but seriously they cannot be expected to outmark giants and in Jetta's case he has already got key match-ups awaiting him - Breust and Rioli. So with Frosty (Gunston and Kennedy) and O-Mac (Roughy and Darling) already occupied, Goody is wanting to take out insurance more than the Indian call centre operator that rings me almost every week. Joel Smith is his man and for those of you who have forgotten what he was doing just five weeks ago before his injury, he not only solves the height problem, he also is quick and loves to tackle, something which is critical at this time of year and throwing forward to a potential Tiges game, imperative. Sure he is inexperienced, sure he is not as precise as Jordy or Christian with his kicking, but he is needed. He brings enough to the table that makes him a MUST in. But we are talking finals now. With no injuries, how do you make room for him? That's what the coach is there for with their selection panel to help advise. And it won't be easy, just as it wasn't pulling the pin on our underacheiving golden boy Jack Watts at the end of last season, although I suspect Goody will now say that was way easier for him. To me there are three options, but some of you have more. It should be noted that none of the following players deserve to be omitted in normal circumstances and in the event of injury, they may yet get another crack this year. In the meantime one of them will have to console themselves with a leading role in claiming Casey's first premiership. It is a tough call. 1) Bayley Fristch - No I hear some of you say. Clearly Smith will slot into our back seven and there's only one player currently back there that can make room - Fritta. I watched him train last week and he was going head-t-head with Jack Viney for much of it and I was so impressed with how his game had developed physically this season. But he is not quite tall enough for the role that we need down back so he has to either be omitted or returned to the wing spot where he performed so admirably mid-season. He's also a first-year player which means it's easier to tell him he's out and explain it. But when you weigh it up, it would be a massive call to omit him. 2) Charlie Spargo - No I hear some of you say. Our little dynamo teenager has a cult following like Ricky Jackson did in 1987. He's not as quick as Ricky but he's highly-skilled and he's already shown he can read a crumb coming his way better than my dog. Sure his lack of size presents some obstacles, but he's a goer. And taking him out of that role for a defender means we have to send a midfielder forward and which one - Jones (he's too slow, you say), Oliver (why waste your best mid you say). The balance is right with him in the side. Some will argue that he's a kid and will understand his omission better and get over it. But when you weigh it up, it would be a massive call to omit him. 3) Dom Tyson - No I hear some of you say. Dom has had to adjust to a new role as an outside mid this season and was a big factor in wins against WC and GWS (until Gawny kicked him). Goody decided that against the Cats he would wear an extra mid to give him options against their strength (mids) and he showed amazing courage to get back and play. Had he kicked a couple of his his shots on the run he would have been in our best. His long-kicking can be a huge bonus to our side on the break, but with Viney back, Jonesy now spends more time on the wing and you have to wonder if we can afford that. And Dom has never really shown he can play anywhere else except as a mid, which is why Fritta rotating from wing to high half-forward is appealing. Already Trac has been returned to more a permanent forward role because Viney, Harmes, Angus and Olly are first choice centre square options. Can we afford to play an extra mid and forsake either Smith or Spargo or Fritta? Can we afford to not have him linking up so well with deft handballs. Unlike Spargo and Bayley, he's not a first-year player, so it would not be easy for Goody to justify his omission. But when you weigh it up, it would be a massive call to omit him. But one trigger has to be pulled ... anyone think Goody has an easy job?

  12. Harmes is rapidly approaching "A" grade status. His second half of the year has been a big factor in our improvement. Trac, however,is not better than a "B" grader, and its up to him to change that. Not a spud, but certainly not a champ.

Had to make an emergency trip to Coloundra Saturday to care for ailing father. slightly delusional I booked Gold Coast not Sunshine Coast, couldn't change without great cost and travelled on variety of plane bus and rain to complete journey was amazed at the sympathy, assistance, smiles, thumbs ups to I received until some random rugby fans pointed out I was still wearing my Demon badged shirt, as he congratulated the Dees. It seems everyone is supporting our success. Have had messages from Fans of all clubs who are now supporting usas the best club of all left. In Qld even people who had no knowledge of AFL are aware of our journey and are supporting us. Unprecedented and bloody fantastic. im gonna keep wearing the shirt till I return. Dad improving and we both hope it will be next Friday.

Contested ball situation opening bounce Of course once we got colour things improved enormously. Ruck duel Busker outside the G The day the chip stand at Princes Park caught fire We weren't restricted to footy either. Final of the Australian Open. Great days.

  18. Whenever it feels like Spargo and Trac are having quiet games and not doing much, a watch of the replay shows they were involved in a bunch of creative plays that directly resulted in goals. They consistently bamboozle their defenders with their positioning and footy smarts. Amazing that Spargo is only 18.

  19. Why are people still not convinced with spargo? 3 assists and uses the ball very well. He does the little things right that obviously are going unnoticed. No changes for me unless injury/illness.

  23. @goodoil Appreciate the respectful tone you take with ANB, but can't agree, watching the tape, he motors to contest to contest, created chopouts and options with his running when the ball carrier was under pressure, laid some huge tackles and seemed to be at every contest providing pressure. Easily top 10 players on the night because he played his role perfectly. Wouldn't surprise me if he gets 4 goals next week, I know there is a goal scorer waiting to break out (again). I also mark him a little easier for his clangers, because he does huge work to get to all the contests it does depreciate the motor skills a bit when you are beyond exhausted, I also see this improving as he goes on and becomes ore adept at dealing with the lactic acid during skill execution.

  27. I would be seeking clarification from the AFL. If he uses the leg, can you attack it? When is it a kick, and when is it a fend? If you grab it, is it a tripping offence? Can we now use this in ruck contests as well as marking contests? I see it as a weak dog act. Should be outlawed when the foot is intentionally raised to make contact with the opponent. Should use his body or his footy smarts, not be Mr Miagi.

  28. We played well on Friday but I think we can play a lot better, we rushed a lot of kicks when we were under little pressure and should have kicked a much higher score. It was very reassuring to win a game, a final, when we were below our best and have a lot of room for improvement. Some of our kicking was uncharacteristically wayward, Salem's first few kicks were way off the mark, he tightened up after the but some of the other players were a bit off. Great effort by the boys and to win a game against an experienced team with some great players in it was a credit to all at the club. I'm getting on in years and during the Neeld years I'd actually resigned myself to never seeing us win another Grand Final, well maybe I got that one wrong, this group are quite capable of doing anything. I'm so proud of these kids and the way they go about the job and so glad that PJ convinced Roosy to come on board and revitalise the club and make us relevant for the first time since 1964. Interestingly John Kennedy took over as coach of Hawthorn and changed that club forever, because he was sick of Melbourne belting them all the time, well I'm sick of them belting us all of the time so let's hope that Goody has changed our club so it won't happen again.

  29. We cannot kick 1 goal 13 plus one out of bounds and three chips that fall short into the goal square over two quarters and expect not to get absolutely belted by the Hawks next week. We must get our forward act together. I have been banging on a bit this year but we just have to nail those set shots from 35m and get some, let’s say 50% accuracy on our snap shots for goal. Is that too much to ask? Every other part of our game plan is working and says we should get 60 plus inside 50 entries which should guarantee a win. Competitive pressure and Conversion is the key this week.

  31. Don't buy into the Melbourne hype. Well done to them and they will get pumped up all week, we'll be given no chance but we will win by at least 6 goals. Geee Geelong got reamed by the cheating umpires tonight. I hate Geelong but while the umpires continue to have zero accountability they will continue to get worse and worse. With even umpiring Geeling probably win, it was that bad. Geelong backed themselves to beat Melbourne head to head, and never fired a shot. As a result, all of Melbourne's lesser lights looked like superstars. Main worry for me was how bad demons goalkicking was. Law of averages will have them kicking Arsey ones next week Melbourne play manic but dumbarse football. If we keep our composure and structure we will smash them. We trashed Melbourne's brand with the 66 point belting in round 4 so I'm welcoming to demons back to the MCG with open arms next weekend. They will be having nightmares this week about the possibility of another spanking. Not sure what game some saw today. I think Melb played better game than yesterday's tigers. Anyone who thinks we will have it easy next week is kidding themselves. Melb tacking was 1st grade and the intensity they bought - if they repeat next week will end our season. To me both cats and Hawks looked slow and tired against two hungry teams. Their forward line is ordinary and ours is much better than their defence. Hawks by 13. I think we can't fall down to Melbourne's level, we are better but they are aggro and if we fall into their pace we could go out in straight sets. I don't think they have any edge pressure wise over us and we are definitely more skilled, just gotta keep composed which we couldn't against a much better pressure side in Richmond than Melbourne are. Don’t underestimate what Melbourne just did. Their contested ball and pressure was brutal and their run and spread was impressive. Sure they gave Cats a few chances to stay in it but the margin flattered Cats. And What chance Demons convert that poorly again next week? We need to be right on our game. Dees appeared to cope with the pressure of finals footy pretty well imo. They just let themselves down a bit with kicking for goal. I thinks its even money next week. Gotta say, so glad it is not Geelong next week. I am so over the nailbiters that our matches turn in to. With composure we’ll take Melbourne. There pressure was nothing like Richmond’s. I’m looking forward to next week. Personally think Melbourne dont defend against kicking teams well. They love a scrap, but seem to struggle against us, and always play much better v geelong. If its dry, there is absolutely no reason to not be confident. If its wet, it will be tougher. Make no mistake we will need to kill Bambi. It will be Hawks vs Australia next Friday. Dees looked extremely dangerous last night and far too quick for the Cats. Dees are more dangerous and unpredictable without Hogan taking up space. If the conditions are good and we play with the same intensity as we did last time against the Dees we will win this. We laid 115 tackles, 20 in the forward 50 last time we met. Compared to their 74 and 8. I also think our team looks better on paper than the team that took on the Dees in round 4 (with the exception of Strats). I'm not sure the Dees list is much better than it was back then, Hogan and Lever both played in that game. Melbourne have great midfield depth no real jets on the wings, I hope to see impey, smith played in attacking positions take them on. Melbourne are very dangerous if they can move the ball quickly and find a short-kick target. If last time was anything to go by, they will target Hawthorn's 'defender' without a defensive side; Sicily. Richmond did in the 2nd half and look what happened. Melbourne become vulnerable if you clog up the passage. They will also bomb the ball into the F50 in a faahion that will bring a tear of joy to Clarkson's eye. When things are going downhill for Melbourne, they are the most dominant side in the comp. But their Achilles heel is that when things are going against them, they drop their [censored] and struggle to turn it around. Case and point our game earlier in the year. Just got to make the game uncomfortable for a while to make them collapse - if not they could win by 10 goals. I’ve got a bad feeling about this. Didn't see much of Gawn in the second half. Was sporting a compression bandage on his calf and received treatment in rooms after the game. I'd like to see McEvoy run him ragged Melbourne are the AFLs 2018 fairytale. Gil likes to have a Cinderella story each year now, and this year I think it’s the Dees. We need to be prepared for some shocking frees against us. Mark my words folks, we will get the Sydney Swans round 23 treatment... Don’t mind the narrative going into this game- Melbourne; only team capable of beating Richmond, us; worst top four team in history. I want them drinking as much of their own bath water as possible. Truth is, our lead in to finals was a lot more difficult than the media would have you believe. And Melbourne are absolutely clueless when the ball enters their forward fifty. Melbourne will be hot favourites - media narrative already has them winning. That is great. If there is one club that does not handle expectation well it is Melbourne. Melbourne are high on talent but we beat them comfortably earlier in the year. Their system doesn’t worry me the same way Richmond’s does. Melbourne have a very solid game plan, although when the game is not played their way they don’t have a plan B. We will exploit this and give them a bath. The third will be the time to put them to the sword. 45 point win please. Hate to say it but for the love of god kick to whoever Lewis is manning. The champ is on his last legs and is deadset approaching crab levels. To beat Melbourne Smith, Gunston, Breust and Shiels all need to play well. Opposition teams are putting a hard tag on Smith and he's had no impact the last month. He needs to find a way to beat the tagger otherwise there's no one else who can run and carry like he does. Weight of expectation will weigh heavily on Melbourne , they play a “chaotic “ brand of footy but don’t set up as well behind the ball as Richmond which will give us opportunities we didn’t get Thursday night. Melbourne definitely is a better side to when we played them in round 4. In fact I felt of the four matches that were played among the 8 teams they were the best - (yes felt better than Richmond.)

  34. Really good interview, he is a very level headed guy and credit to the club, this is the best group of players that we've he'd since 1964 and it's great they have so much belief in themselves. I was stoked when we picked him up, and he hasn't let us down. The move to the forward line was a stroke of genius and you could see noticeable improvement in the team when he came back after injury.
