  1. Take Bugg off before he kicks another and gets a recall.

  2. Against a rampaging Box Hill, Casey once again managed to show why they are so hard to beat at home, with the inclusion of some much needed AFL talent this week. Box Hill pushed numerous times but Casey defended strongly and ran the game out to finish on top for a great weekend for the Melbourne Football Club. Here was my take for the individual players. Viney - Played probably about 70% game time. Was tagged hard whenever he stepped onto the ground but was just a class above. As long as he pulled up okay it will be great to see the Co-Captain back playing AFL next week. Bugg - Solid. Popped up a few times to kick some goals, but nothing spectacular. Stretch- His best game this year. 31 touches and unlike previous weeks actually did a lot with the ball. Frost - The 3 tall defenders were great all game and Frosty was very solid. Couple of nice grabs and spoils and dashes from the back half. Pedo - Pretty decent game, although probably should've held a few more marks. Hunt - Got better as the game opened up but made a lot of mistakes, struggling for form a bit at the moment. JKH - Hasn't been getting the ball this season as much as he used to but he played predominately forward today and was good. Garlett - His best game at VFL level. Lively up forward and through the midfield. Set up a few goals from some nice kicking. Johnstone - Is playing defence and I didn't really notice him, but the Coach gave him some nice praise after the game. T.Smith - Was best on ground behind Stretch for mine. Took some impressive marks, including a great screamer on the wing and was great up forward. J . Wagner - Solid again. Used mostly off half back and used the ball well. J . Smith - Really good in the air today which he wasn't against Geelong, good game. Keilty - Hopefully today spurs Dec into some form because he was very good. Got to a lot of contests with some good spoils and did well when the ball hit the deck, just needs to hang onto a couple more marks to take his game to the next level. Filipovic- Pretty good in the ruck against some big Hawks boys, still developing. Balic - First game back after about 3 weeks and was pretty good without being great. Petty - Very good in defence today, took a couple of really strong marks. Baker - Continuing on from his strong start to the season. Today was a great, high level game of football and with the Seniors in some good form at the moment hopefully the players down at Casey can keep up with them and be knocking on the door.

  5. I’m up nice and early today. It’s a beautiful wintery morning, the birds are singing, Melbourne had a huge win, I get to watch my brother play high level football in just a few hours, and not to mention Jack Viney! Imagine being a 19 year old Casey listed player, missed out on getting drafted, been playing well enough to squeeze into a packed VFL team, and as you run out on the day, the god damn Captain of the Melbourne Football Club is running next to you. Cant wait too watch today’s game and hopefully it’s another big win. Carn the Dee’s!

  7. I think Nev has demonstrated outstanding durability for the heavy physical work he does, but I am really over seeing him getting whacked with little or no consequence and reckon the club should ask a question about it. Last season it was a feeling, and this season I think it is something else. Except for one free yesterday, I think Nev gets bashed from pillar to post and doesn't get the frees he deserves and that quite a few of the shots he cops have been deserving of sanction. He has had concussion issues in his history and I would hate to see him finish before his time. Now I know I'll probably get yelled down for throwing petrol on embers, but I almost think the umpsMRP/MRO have a little subconscious racism, along the lines of ' he's a black fella and can cope'. I am at a loss to explain it any other way. I don't see him as someone who gives the umpires a earful either (the occasional grumble maybe) so that he has lost friends amongst officialdom. Anyway @Fairgo4Nev I reckon.

  8. Went down and had look. Must say not a bad game and was above a hell of a lot AFL games seen this year. Just a note on a couple players. Viney. Bring him straight back to the seniors. Knows what to do with the ball and positions himself well. Box hill were driving him hard especially in the last quarter but it didn't bother him. Garlett. Played better the longer the game went. Would consider him for next week. Hunt. Fumbled badly early on but again got better the longr the game went. T. Smith. Thaught he was close to our best player. Really strong marking. Wagner. He was okay. His brother young pony tail wagner was impressive. Frost. Was serviceable Balic. played fairly well. Bugg. Ho hum.

  9. He didn't have a lot of stats but at half time he had run 7.5km the second most on the ground behind Hogan who also hadn't done much at that point. When players are running and spreading its a good thing. It creates space. And even if they don't get the ball they take a player with them. You don't know what Weid's instructions are. Its possible he is being told to roam up hte ground and take a key player out with him. The fact he keeps getting picked suggests they like the flexibility he offers. And as a backup ruckman he does a pretty good job.

  10. Weid is currently the poster boy for playing your role. Whilst he didnt get on the end, our tall forwards and ruck kicked 9 goals and we had a massive inside 50 count. He gave off 4 goals from his small possession count. Once again I can't recall him getting beaten in the air or a liability in the centre bounce. His speed and territory coverage is vital to this (mentioned he and Hogan had covered the most kms to half time). If it ain't broke don't fix it.

  11. Also was never outmarked, always halved the contest, Gawn spoilt the ball out of his hands just outside the square at one point but of his 6 possessions 4 were score involvements. I am happy with what he is bringing at the moment, when you listen to the great forwards, Dunstall, Carey, Brereton etc on how long it took them to feel comfortable at the elite level then realise how much easier and simplistic their roles were I think Weed is doing some nice things. I did say in the game thread that I think he needs to be a bit more selfish, twice he gave the ball off when the shot was rightfully his to take. We know the ceiling with pedders, we don’t with Weed.

  13. Honestly, why post this? It’s obvious to anyone with eyes and probably those without that the Gold Coast aren’t very good. We know that. It would be fantastic to be basking over giving a quality side a flogging, but unfortunately we weren’t scheduled to play against a quality side. People are allowed to enjoy wins, even against poor sides, without the usual grinches chiming in and pissing on the parade. It’s almost like getting some actual enjoyment out of football physically pains some people.

  15. Don't fret people. The AFL taking a cue from Demonland perhaps. Sam Day has been given a week for hitting Nev: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-round-8-match-review-steven-may-referred-to-tribunal-for-umpire-push-sam-day-suspended/news-story/a2cb3ffb07df29f1ff06fd3dbbd8fcaa

  16. Oh - one more. Maxy Gawn - for a bloke who is 8 ft, your skills in picking up ground balls under pressure beneath your knees is the best I have seen. You are a dead set gun.

  17. Regarding the Weed, I don't see him being dropped. My take is that he has progressed at Casey to the point where they can trust him to play a role at AFL level, so putting him into the seniors now is an investment in the future. Sure, Pedersen is better than him right now, but will he be by this time next year? This time building chemistry with Hogan, McDonald and Gawn is going to pay off down the track and the team is at the point where they can carry him as long as he keeps putting in the defensive acts. It's easy to point to his low disposal count, but if he's not winning the ball, he's making sure that his opponent doesn't take the mark either and he chases and hassles them once it hits the ground. That means that while he's not really a winner for us yet, he's not a liability. I'd also like to apologise to Lewis. I was calling for his head a couple of weeks ago, but his last two games have been exactly what we need from him and this week he was working all the time, coaching from the bench, directing and leading on the field and generally provided great value. This is what we hired him for.

  19. Yes, thankyou, I am aware it’s a forum. Come on mate, you don’t need to tell me how it is. I have to come close to holding the all time record in minutes spent on this forum. I read dozens of views I don’t agree with on a daily basis. The majority I just ignore because I don’t feel strongly enough to argue, or that my case isn’t strong enough, or that I just don’t know enough about the topic to comment, or I just can’t be bothered. I can cope with disagreement. I take pretty strong exception to people trying to temper the enjoyment of others though. I just don’t see any motive to do that other than sheer nastiness.

  23. Those that want to replace Weideman with Pedersen are the same morons who don't rate Goodwin. The investment being made in Weideman will pay off big time. It gives Gawn a rest and Tom McDonald doesn't need to be wasted in the ruck. Weideman was quiet, but will get better and better.

  24. This is the kind of post that really makes me want to avoid fan forums. Why do people need to rain on other's enjoyment? Is there really anything wrong with just enjoying a few wins after the past 10 years we have had? 'People need to get a grip', yes.People like you. We are not the FD we are just fans, our enjoyment will not cause the team to lose or become overconfident, it will just cause us to enjoy the experience of being Demons fans. Maybe our enjoyment could be infectious, it might even encourage others to join us and enjoy the ride. How terrible would that be?! Maybe just try sitting on your negativity a bit and enjoy it when we win. I don't think that would be such a bad thing. I promise it won't have a negative effect on the teams performance next week.

  26. Beautiful kick by Garlett to set up a goal after the siren for Angus Scott Casey lead 4-4-28 to Hawks 3-2-20 Garlett prominent, T.Smith great. Keilty best quarter he’s played all year. Stretch and JKH better. Viney spent about half the quarter on the bench and gets a heavy tag as soon as he steps foot on the ground, so he wasn’t in much. But what he was in was spectacular and he is just a class above. Hunt quiet.

  36. hey guys i went to the game so here is my take: We were challenged in the 3rd quarter but responded. People saying we should have won by 100 are a bit misled. If the suns had of been 1 goal or 2 goals closer at three quarter time it would've changed the whole context of the game. Best game ive seen lewis play. omac is improving each week. just needs to keep taking the easy option. the ability for other teams to find space is still a massive concern. guys like martin and hall broke the lines a few times and we looked a bit vulnerable out the back. At the end of the day we need to lock it down against teams like richmond and hawthorn. gawn was great after the game getting photos with fans. salem is really getting momentum. fritsch and hannan are dangerous forwards and i like spargo in the team as he is accurate. petracca: i was criticised a lot on this board for being critical of his kicking but he has been hopeless in front of the big sticks. jetta/hibberd/lever are all hitting form. tom mcdonald: so good up forward. shows you why a premium should be placed on goal kicking accuracy. its no wonder hawks stay competitive with bruest, gunston and rioli being the best kicks in the league. i wouldn't mind putting fritsch up the field and bringing garlett back. playing against his former team might be a good idea. harmes: where are all the harmes haters? you've got to play this guy every week as he is competitive. Pedersen to come in for weideman. and as a final dig: to all of those watts fans, he had another irrelevant game yesterday while fritsch (our compensation) has been fantastic. time for people to admit that they dont know footy. lastly, jason taylor needs to be given a contract extension. nailed early picks in oliver, petracca, brayshaw but also looks to have hit with later picks in spargo, fritsch and hannan. as a side note, now that spargo has showed his potential d.johnstone will be out the door at seasons end

  38. Oliver 's ball handling is nothing short of freakish, I just can't recall anyone other than the great Robbie who compares to him. The other things in his favour are his height and strength and his toughness. Have I told you all I just love this kid and am so thrilled we traded up to get him.
