  3. Thanks for the reports. I'm currently in Spain so good to get any news. I headed down to the local Plaza de Torro with my camera but there wasn't much action there. I'll be back home around the time the full group return so will head down to training then with my trusty lense. https://six6six.smugmug.com/Pdt/n-MtMDh8/i-s6dSLvJ/A

  7. Probably because they don't feel like the death threats, rape threats, being told they should just be grateful the men let them play their game etc.

  10. Sickening. One wonders what would need to happen before the afl would enforce the full penalty. I would think nothing short of a player blowing up Gil's house with an underground meth lab.

  11. Is it possible to quarantine the pointless and worthless personal chit-chat between posters from the real news about our players and their progress over the pre-season? Like many other readers I highly value the training observations but don't want to have to scroll through multiple pages of nonsense to find the information I want. Perhaps a "mirror" topic where the observations can also be posted for their juvenile fun without sullying the main topic with the important information? This issue will only get worse throughout the pre-season when these reports are the only football news that sustains us. The players, coaches and committed posters deserve to be treated with more respect than is shown currently.

  13. Lols. You don't really think players within the AFL would be able to 'trick' elite level performance gurus (who have spent years studying what the human body is capable of) into thinking that they've drastically improved their running capabilities by easing their way through earlier sessions, do you? Like, I mean, You're making a funny joke yeh?

  14. Another great appointment. I've had the fortune of being in a position to have the odd conversation every now & then with Rooke whilst he was a development coach at Geelong. He's quiet and doesn't always say a lot, but what he does say is usually very direct and meaningful. He simply doesn't waste his words.

  16. I have one wish. Can we have pre-season training reports without the sniping. If you can't get there to post your own report, don't criticise those that do. If you don't like the report ignore it and move on. We have lots to look forward to so let's be positive. This should not be wishful thinking.

  17. Tom Mitchell was an absolute steal for pick 14, but make no mistake - the Hawks have paid a mammoth price to get O'Meara, Mitchell and Vickery to the club, even though, in isolation, each of those trades didn't cost them too much draft pick wise. It seems to me that they misjudged/mishandled the Lewis situation in that they thought he would see out his contract on the basis that he would never ever elect to leave the club and that he would also back himself on his performance next year to earn one more year beyond that and then perhaps retire as a one club player. In short, they knew they needed to refresh their midfield group, but they factored in losing only one of Sam Mitchell and Jordan Lewis in order to obtain and then integrate Tom Mitchell and O'Meara into the midfield next year. Then, at the end of next season, they would be in a position to assess the importance of Lewis to the midfield group based upon: - Lewis' individual performance next year; - the performance of their midfield more generally next year; and - the availability of other elite mids next year, eg, Fyfe etc. BUT - Jordan didn't fall into line and he directed his manager to contact the mighty fighting Demons and the rest is history. It's a pity Carlton agreed to do the deal that enabled the Hawks to land O'Meara at the 12th hour because, absent that, the trade period would've been an unmitigated disaster for the club. We are the real beneficiaries of this trade period, not clubs like the Hawks. We entered it with a couple of used paddle pop sticks and came out of it with Lewis and Hibberd. And, bizarrely, still possessing one of the used paddle pop sticks. God bless Josh Mahoney.

  18. Actually, the answer is yes and no. A number of posts on this thread have been deleted by the moderators mainly because they are either offensive, off topic or attempts to derail the thread. A couple of posters have received warnings. There will be bans of at least one month placed automatically on repeat offenders. That said, we can live with some lighthearted banter from time to time as long as it's in good spirit.

  19. Greco-Roman, I got into it after watching Foxcatcher. Someone told me I look a bit like Channing Tatum, or maybe it was Jonah Hill, who was in 21 Jump Street with Channing Tatum. I did have some good wrestles in my old job, it's just not the same though without the spandex.

  20. As a sideline to this whole controversy, it seems that Stephen Dank's defamation cases against the Nine Network have gone down the toilet* because the man failed to turn up to court/comply with orders - Case dismissed. Dank was ordered to pay Nine's costs of and incidental to each of the proceedings and I wish them the best of luck with that. * most likely the same toilet down which Essendon's drug records were flushed around four and a half years ago.

  21. I'm not a fan but if H does make it back into a near full strength team it will be a good thing as he'll be playing better than some very good players. Very strange situation. Nobody sees him hit in the head in the two games he's supposed to be concussed, he declines to play when cleared fit by the medical staff last year when we are pushing for finals in both teams and now having missed a the majority of 2016 and with his position in question he declines to come back to training when other senior players do. Doubt that will impress Goodwin. I'm not sure what the rules are now about final year injuries and payouts but I'd be wary if I was the match committee. Hope Mahoney is all over it. To me it smells. It doesn't look like a guy dedicated to the cause.

  24. Pathetic. The AFL are becoming the new FIFA. Are under-the-table political donations their next step to forming their own drug code, where they can do and say as they please and sweep everything under the rug for good?

  25. Maybe wholesale drug abuse like it appears there was at the Eagles. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/daniel-chick-begs-for-medical-help-after-old-rift-with-west-coast-resurfaces-20161107-gsk1mp.html Oh! hang on, they didn't even investigate them, even though it was obvious to all that they were cheating. Perhaps if they had, they wouldn't have had to be dragged kicking and screaming in to the Essendon drug scandal. The AFL should decide to forget about image and concentrate on integrity, if the do image will be restored.

  27. I recognise a few of them are wearing fitbit watches. These record your heartbeat as well as how many footsteps you are taking and they also have a GPS to measure how far you have run and possibly even how fast. It can all be uploaded to an app which has graphs to show all of this at the same time. It looked like a few of the other watches were also training computers which would have this info. The GPS gizmos they have in their shirts that are directly connected to the Club's computers don't give the players any info while they are out there but these watches do.

  28. I'd be really impressed if this were true. I don't traditionally think of footballers having the skills to think that far ahead.

  29. Glacial in comparison to the way it came out immediately on the day the CAS judgement was made in January and announced its contingency plan to top up the Essendon list with players and confirm that in the event that their weakened team finished last, it would still have first pick in the draft notwithstanding the CAS findings.

  35. Without knowing for sure that would make sense as ANB not there as well. Hogan looked seriously lean in a good way. Was getting across the turf beautifully. Wagner the other that stood out for me. Maynard has some serious size on him and did not look out of place skills wise. Was very much a loosener of a session to get the legs moving and some touch. Goodwin alot more hands on with players than I had seen from Roos in prior years. Lots of getting around to each player, quick chat pat on back and move on.

  40. This might be of interest: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/afl/coaches Brendan McCartney - player/coach performance manager Regarded as one of the game’s best development coaches, McCartney joined Melbourne in February 2015, after coaching the Western Bulldogs from 2012-14. He was initially appointed development and strategy coach, but in September 2016 was named player/coach performance manager in line with Simon Goodwin’s elevation to senior coach. The role oversees the development of Melbourne’s coaches, along with driving the performance of the club’s player group. McCartney continues to work closely in player development with Matthew Egan. I don't think we do have a 'head senior assistant' per se as it was really a 'senior coach in waiting' role but we have lost 2 (Roos and ???) from the coaching group and recruited 3 (Egan, Chaplin, Rooke) so the emphasis has changed.

Can't see Oliver anywhere but no other noticeable 1-4 year absentees without checking the list. TMac and Viney also here of those not required.
