  2. Collingwood had 4 guys who all finished Year 12, but never in the same team.

  3. Amazing to think the respect the kid has already won on opposition supporters. Just read a comment by a freo suporter that said "Stopping the young gun Hunt off the half back will go a long way to beating the demons, he has been exhilarating the past few weeks with his pace off the backline, usually when he gets a run in space the demons end up with a scoring opportunity Hate to think what he could achieve once he hits the 50 to 80 games mark.

  4. See James Aish, Jimmy Toumpas, Kane Lucas and Jono O'Rourke.

  5. I see the exact opposite. I think Fyfe is looking for success over dollars. I reckon he's an intelligent and humble kind of guy, who wants to return home post football to a small town 350 km's from Perth where his family runs a trucking business.

  6. No excuses this week. Should beat them. Experience is irrelevant. We are a 4-5 goal better squad. If they lose this week, it'll snowball and we'll end up with another sub-8 win season. Must win to set up a strong second half leading into 2017.

  7. You are so terribly condescending in your responses, Steve. It's unbecoming. I merely asked a question, there is no need to be a complete [censored] about it. Eric Mackenzie and Nathan Brown, to me, are limited players who have already reached their ceiling in terms of what they can provide going forward. They might provide small relief, true, but do they truly improve on what we have right now? Are they any better than Garland and Dunn, who are languishing in the VFL? They have experience, sure, but I don't see either player improving us. They would play the same role than Dunn and Garland would fill, and clearly the FD aren't all that keen on it. I could concede that, in the short term, they could give a chop out to O Mac, but then so could the guys we have on our list already. Mackenzie has been surpassed at the minute by a kid with barely any games to his name in Tom Barrass. That speaks volumes. I took Hurley out of the equation above, not because I can't see the big picture, but because most just focus on him. I thought I was fairly clear in my suggestion that, if we recruit another key backman, they obviously need to be at a higher level than OMac or Frost. If the FD believe those two are ahead of Garland and Dunn, what is there to suggest that they would believe Brown or Mackenzie would be ahead of them as well? Not much. By the way, we've built up our midfield by recruiting players who improved on what we had. Again, do Brown and Mackenzie represent that? On what our FD has done this season, I'd suggest they wouldn't.

  8. Not overly interested daz, unless he's acquired cheaply which probably won't happen. He did have a promising start to his caree but has gone in reverse ever since. Literally. Tends to run around in circles and chip kick sideways and backwards. Lowest metres gained out of the top 100 possession getters last season. Plus there are some of the off field issues to consider. He's a bit of a chicken and egg scenario. Is what we are seeing the player he will become, or has the coaching, instruction and playing culture at Brisbane been that detrimental to his development? We've seen how Collingwood have been burnt by Aish under the belief that he was jweighed down by Brisbane. Turns out he just wasn't that good. Also, there's the fact he's another midget. We already have Kennedy, Viney et al. I'd prefer we target some slightly bigger bodied mids. I want to intimidate the bejeezus out of the opposition.

  9. You are kidding right??? Dawes uncontested 20m grubber kick and you have the audacity to suggest Tom was in any way responsible for that turnover?? that is enough to show you have no understanding of football Blatant throw? yes, but will one arm held and no great skill he was alway going to get pinned holding the ball. Tracc had the same thing happen to him later in the game he kicked it and turned it over as well, where is his crucifiction? As Undeeterred said this is nothing more than confirmation bias. Go back through the game and start counting the number of spoils/marks/pressure acts he made to stop an adelaide score and suddenly he will look more valuable. Assuming for 5 seconds that your ludicrously flawed logic is correct and he did cause 5 goals i can guarantee that you can find more times he prevented a score and given adelaide's high accuracy odds on most of them would have been goals Im not saying you dont have the right to be frustrated by his mistakes we all are. But if you had half the understanding of football as the rest of us you would know that right now even with all his mistakes he still prevents more scores than he causes. We need more! but Tom does far more than you give him credit for.

  11. It's pure confirmation bias. Nobody notices the absolutely brilliant things he does, or his reasonably frequent excellent kicks that get a player out on the run, or his consistently excellent marking and spoiling. But as soon as he makes an error, every peanut in the crowd sees only that.

  12. I'm glad we're clearly targetting defenders because there's no doubt it's our weakest link right now. Prestia is kidding himself if he thinks we'll give him $700K. Knock off $200K and we'll talk, but we can't afford that kind of money right now. He's more than welcome to take overs from Richmond, set up his retirement, and wallow in mediocrity for the rest of his career.

  13. Hogan is a tremendous player and I really hope he signs with us, but if he's set on going home to Perth I hope he makes that known this year so we can do a deal while he's in contract and Freo are in the bottom 4. If we got equitable compensation for him, I've seen enough from Weidemann and Hulett, and with Watts improvement this year to feel comfortable that we could still continue our rise to challenge.

  14. Due to insomnia, I watched replays of of a couple of our wins last night. The thing I noticed about T Mac's kicking is that he can only kick the ball in the direction he's facing, and it takes him ages to get boot to ball. In one instance, he was facing the boundary line at an 80 degree angle, and kicked it straight out on the full. He can't curve the ball with his kicks, hence it's easy to smother. On other occasions, he made horrible decisions with ball in hand. Anyone who puts him in the elite category for KPFs are kidding themselves. His role needs to be simplified. Play as a stay at home key backman, and don't provide yourself as an option for uncontested kicks or handball received.

  15. I see Fyfe as a player who plays in 4 flags for MFC before going on to coach us to another 4. Then joins the board of Collingwood as a double agent and destroys them from within. Then becomes an AFL commissioner and kicks all other clubs off the MCG and rigs the draw so we never have to travel, even to Etihad.

  18. I'm guessing I don't need to explain the difference between grandfather/father and nephew to agree that they are not the same... But given the cancer battle and death of our club president, not to mention the small bit about Jim being the "greatest story in the history of football", please forgive us for wishing that a good, young prospect related to Jimmy, who's father also played for Melbourne, might one day pull on the read and blue.

  19. Saw him at Sydney Airport sitting by himself with his burger. He seems to be a quiet kind of guy. Even when he brilliantly created those two goals against the Crows, barely anyone went to him. Get around him, boys! He's gonna be a ripper. I love his surprising ability to spoil. He judges the ball really well in the air.

  20. Loved his desperation in Q2 of the game on Sunday when he tried to smother the ball in the goal square as the Adelaide player received the handball, turned and kicked the goal. Hunt was 10-15m away, showed terrific desperation to dash, dive and smother and only just missed it. I'm not sure anyone else would have got close or even tried. Great stuff.

  23. Fair enough too. Imagine what Hibberd, and in particular Hurley, are going to cost us. I'm thinking smoke/fire. Hoping like hell that there is something to this. This is a true test of our new found, or should I say, newly declared "destination club" status. Still think we need to get some more wins to make ourselves look like the place to be. Dion would be great for us, but you dont pay that sort of cash, without removing yourself from the market where other players are concerned.

  25. Jong is a respectable player but I don't think he is a priority 'type' for us at the moment. I wonder why there are so few rucking tall defenders? We could really use one of those. And no, I don't mean 'really really' tall defenders, ok?

  26. I'd agree that he is better than those listed, but, is he in our best 22? There is obviously interest from elsewhere, so should we focus on someone who might cost a little bit so he can play in the twos, or focus our energies elsewhere?

  27. Why not? (because we don't give him any........boom tish)

  28. Let's offer the Dogs pick 27 and give Jong a 4 year 400k a year contract and give him a years holiday to freshen up. we're in desperate need of a mediocre backman to run the ball out of defence

  30. Pretty dodgy of him to be touring another clubs facilities in the middle of the year. Has a bit of talent, but at what cost? Would the Dogs just let him go for cheap or play hard ball? Do we even have anything to trade that would interest them...?

  33. I don't know about you guys but players like Hunt, Garlett and (probably soon) Petracca* are the reason to go to the footy. They are the ones to make you sit up in anticipation when they have the ball. When they are in the play, footy is fun. Can't wait till Hunt is getting the ball 22 times a match instead of 12. Will cause major mayhem * And equally loving watching Watts this year play some really good footy. It must be very rewarding for him to silence his detractors in the media

  34. one thing i think that is worth pointing out is that all the brickbats that t mac cops is very, very similar to that which beset rance at about the same stage of development. rance is now clearly the premier tall defender in the competition. when t mac is up and going, he's the equal of rance imo. i would not want to lose him without the equivalent coming back in. we are already light on for genuine key defenders - arguably t mac and dunn are our only truly physically strong and imposing tall defenders, and the latter is clearly out of favour - and if we lost t mac our defence would be under even more pressure than it is now.

  36. I agree - he makes mistakes. I also agree that his mistakes are frustrating, because a lot of the time they are really basic errors, and so stand out more. And I'm not comparing Jones and McDonald - you must be able to see that. My point is that all players make mistakes it's one sided to just point out their errors (frustrating though they can be). Equally, you can't ignore all the really excellent things McDonald does when making an assessment of how important he is for us.

  37. I think I heard Roos say he will be much better in 12 months (when he has more games and a pre season under his belt), of course he may mean with another club but that's not what I took from it.

  38. Thanks for that KC and as you say the VFL as a support comp for the AFL is in my view a disaster. The problems with the draw is way below what the competition should get. Come on AFL ( they control things ) you are responsible get it improved.

  40. Wagner good chance to play: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-07-05/wagner-a-good-chance-to-return Btw the game is at night so it won't be 33 degrees. Overnight low f/cst is 21 so game conditions may not be too bad with no rain for some days and low humidity. Freo have only about 28 players fit to choose from. So even allowing for their extended break it will be a shock if we don't beat them.

  41. Good news it seems! Latest injury report says he is 2 weeks away from playing. Great to see he is getting healthy again. Hope he gets a few games in, in the last month of the season.

  42. I don't know if this has been mentioned to date but I was listening to a pre match interview on SEN with Josh Mahoney and he was asked about the selection of younger defenders like Sam Frost and Oscar McDonald ahead of the more experienced defenders like Lynden Dunn and Colin Garland and Josh said that players were being picked on form. There is also the need to get games into the legs of the younger players. On this basis I think the futures at the club of Jack Grimes and Heritier Lumumba for that matter would also be limited. And if that's the way to go then Chris Dawes is skating on thin ice because the selectors might well decide to give Liam Hulett a chance very soon in his place.

  44. Do the same analysis with Nathan Jones. I bet you can find at least that many moments he stuffed up during the game. Do you hate T-Mac so much that you'll sit through an entire replay watching out for his mistakes?

  45. Was that the one where he nearly made the smother on Jenkins on the goal line when Jenkins got the Joe the Goose? That episode showed the high level competitiveness he has - most would have stayed on the ground, accepted the inevitable and not gone on to the next contest. It was the tackling equivalent of unrewarded running.

  46. My favourite thing about him is that he uses his pace defensively. He made up probably 20 metres to take that intercept mark which let to Kennedy's goal. So many quick players only use their pace offensively, so it is great to see someone that will use it going both ways.

  47. James Frawley would surrender one or two goals a week with unforced turnovers. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to happen now he's playing for a more experienced side. That could be the moral of this thread.

  48. Are you joking??? He is 7th on the league goal kicking list, is on the same amount of goals as Tex Walker and has kicked more goals than Hawkins and Gunston. I would hate to see if he was switched on
