  1. On Monday 14th December I ventured down to the paddock to record some images of the Dees training as I'm want to do from time to time and posted around 100 photographs of the Dees at work. To post the 100 pictures I take around 500 pictures and share what I consider to be a representative cover of the boys effort on the day. You don't see every frame that I take. I thought that because we are now in a bit of a hiatus with the cub shut down till next year that I would spend I bit of time exploring one of my passions (photography) examining the result of my afternoons work and sharing an extended view of what I see at training covering one of my other passions (The Dees).. I'll go through the full 500 shot gallery and pick selected shots and sequences over the next couple of weeks until the boys are back in town. You'll see shots you have already seen in the original post but they will be in context with other shots. If you have no interest in this, have a lovely Christmas and I'll see you in the new year. For all of the rest of you, the first small set is of the big Gawn. Two of the shots were in the original post. 3. From the Hun (apologies tried but for some reason could not get past the pay wall, so no link): JAMES Hird’s lawyer says the AFL is “reaping what it sowed” after the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Wednesday announced the Essendon drugs saga would spill in to a fourth year A couple of things come to mind. Firstly if anyone is reaping anything it is the essenden players - they're the ones who have to wait. And secondly it shows terrific chutzpa to blame the AFL for delays when Hird launched two appeals that stopped things in their tracks. Twice. Not to mention a better argument would be efc is reaping what it sowed given it decided not to take the cop in the way Cronullla did and instead elect to fight and drag things out.

  5. I don't think they do, do they? Do the Hawks ever do altitude training? I like the idea of mixing it up but I get the feeling while this is great for first year players this is more directed at a handful of senior players who still don't get it. We as a team are still mentally weak and don't understand the need to come mentally switched on to play every week. The games against Carlton and Essendon said it all.

  8. That they had a mass spectrometer reading of TB4 is pretty much what the afl tribunal wanted because they wanted proof that it was actually TB4. Well there you go guys, it was. Dots joined.

  9. Another leak from the CAS hearing. Queries over sentencing discounts for Bombers It doesn't pay to read too much into this kind of stuff, but it strikes me that none of the CAS hearing leaks have been favourable to the bombers.

  12. Great to see that distinguished climate scientist Lord Monkton getting a guernsey. the list is actually a bit short on Aussie climate scientists - some dude from the IPA (and we all know what their agenda is) Bill Kininmoth, who is a retired meteorologist. bit surprising to me is their rather unscientific certainty that they are right (for example, stating that Sandy was not caused by human factors) Any decent scientist would say something like "on the evidence available, it is unlikely that...." Not unlike Black Saturday - you can't be sure that it was caused by global warming, but equally you can't be sure that it was not my basic stance: we need to do something. If the deniers are right, we will at least have reduced the amount of pollution in the atmosphere. If they are wrong, and we do nothing, our children will face a catastrophe

  16. Little McD. Told me at the last session they are back on track on the 4th. I didn't think about the Tennis. Does that start on the 11th? just checked Google. The tennis is from 18th-31st. So we should be safe for the first week.

  17. Nothing has really changed since day 1. The lawyers got involved and started bending the truth, or blaming someone else. It happens in all cases where you have a prosecutor and defence lawyer. When the truth finally raises its head, the arguments change to procedural problems. All this has now diminished and we now have to rely on the Truth and Fact. How Novel. By the way Merry Xmas & HNY to all D'Landers.

  18. even if essendrug emerge from cas with little penalty it could be argued that eesendrug have already paid a large price i'm not arguing that as a reason for a light sentence but just stating a reality. i won't bother listing all the "penalties" they have already endured as these should be self evident

  19. Surely the point here is under the WADA code it is the players personal responsibility to monitor and consent to what they swallow. This is drummed into every athlete who plays under the WADA rules at regular occasions throughout their careers. They cannot then turn around and say they did not know what they were taking. If that were the case and they still took it, they are very clearly guilty under the WADA code. The rules are very clear: if the information is not given to them before they take anything no matter what it is, it is the individual players responsibility to refuse to take it. If it subsequently turns out to be an illegal substance, then they cannot then say they didn't know as they are doing now. It is of course Richard Young's job to establish that CAS can be "comfortably satisfied" that it was an illegal substance, but that is a the level of proof at CAS which is much lower than was applied at the AFL Tribunal if past CAS cases are anything to go by.

  20. I'm only a newbie in the Apple sphere and I've got an iPhone 6 and the battery life is sensational - far superior to anything I've used before (mainly Blackberry). At the time of purchase, they told me that the extended battery life on the 6 was one of the big improvements from the 5, so it might be worth checking out. My phone gets heavy usage at certain times during work and the 6 has always come through - battery almost always lasts through the day. It's a quick re-charge too, which is beneficial if you're on the road and only have a small window of time to juice it up again.

  21. Well it didn't come from the club, it came from the bloke who ran it. In this day and age most clubs would have called the 2 papers and asked for pics and a "story" to go with it. To me that is pretty secret in the AFL. Maybe old mate was trying drum up business?

  22. Well actually they are two different things. 1. Taking the money. Agree he would have been stupid not to. I don't blame him for leaving, considering what we got, I am thrilled about it. 2. Lying to Jimmy. Disagree. Whatever Jimmy got wrong as President, he was a Legend Player of the Club, who happened to be dying. He deserved the truth. It could have been kept confidential if needed. 3. I add this one. Lying to the members. He didn't need to. He could have just said he will consider it when the season ended or no comment.

  24. My only interest is to see as many stirring wins from my beloved old side and watch their rise up the ladder. I want to see them play tough hard contested football and gain the respect of the Demon tribe and the football world. I want to feel hope and feel passion. God almighty I want to embrace this old footy club and be proud of its exploits on the field. I want to see our old club become a force and regain its standing as one of the great clubs. I want to replace my feelings of loss and depression each weekend with hope and joy. I want new weekend Heroes and not dwell in the past. I want to be able to celebrate most weekends with my favourite glass of Ricard and not drink myself into oblivion with the sadness of defeat. I want to walk to the MCG with a quickness of step and a feeling of anticipation of watching our boys demolish the opposition. I want to live with the excitement and passion of the contest. I want to feel the adrenaline rush through my veins after another famous victory. I want to see a premiership before I die. I want my children to see a premiership before they die. To say, our boys did it !

  25. Jara your last para sums it all up in my opinion. The do nothing option could be, in my opinion, will be catastrophic, the do something option will provide jobs, new industries, innovation, economic stimulus etc, etc. the winners are us the community , the losers would be the current fossil fuel big boys and I don't give a flying about them and neither should any of us.

  27. I am an Apple fan - iPhone 3 for 3 years and i5 past three. I don't stream , don't face book, rarely watch you tube and never play games. I hammer Viber, Wattsapp, Wechat though. I can reach zero from full charge in 3 1/2 hours. Genius Bar tell me that's "within specification". They've updated iOS, factory reset it, replaced the battery and replaced the phone. No good. I recently read an article online - 34 ways to improve iPhone Battery life. I implemented all 34, turning off things I did not even know existed like saying "Hey SIRI". 34 modifications, new LOW POWER MODE SETTING - and no difference. Maybe four hours. My nephew and mate both report high battery usage on iPhone 6. The Guardian review says "Great phone but rubbish battery." Thanks for your comments but I really worry the 6 will let me down. From reviews the 6 Plus seems better than the 6. Do you guys have the 6, 6S or Plus? I have a MacBook, not keen on learning an android but the quoted 2 day battery life on the is tempting. Thanks

  28. Definitely true... I went from on iPhone 5 to an iPhone 6 and the battery life is now so much better. If you like the Apples interface and OS and battery life is the deciding factor to you wanting to change, then I would definitely upgrade to an iPhone 6 if I were you, radar.

  36. I watched a clip of Jesse Hogan on AFL360 after his Rising Star win. He said that the club is only bringing in players with a competitive nature when recruiting, rather than putting the most emphasis on skill. While this is something that is obvious to most of us, it gave me renewed confidence in our list building strategy having heard it straight from a player. I think that competitiveness is something that drives loyalty in football, as most players want to be a part of the rise and see out all their hard work, rather than jumping ship to a club that's already successful. While it may be harder to achieve the ultimate success by starting at the bottom and remaining with a team through lean years, if you can be part of the change the reward will be that much greater.

  38. Lazy mans blender. Just add the same amounts to your blender and hey presto the same result. If your feeling really paleo, you could grab a tea strainer (or, fine straw) and a tea spoon and press your fruit and seeds through that. At least your building core strength while you make the drink.

  41. When I go through our list and think who will be delist at the end of 2016 to make room for the next trade/draft period, these two names are at the top of my list. They were good for us as a bottom 4 team but as we start to fight for a top 8 spot these two guys need to make way for other players who will make our team stronger.

  42. I recall enormous amounts of pressure being put on GA Jnr to say something about his intentions, to the extent that Bomber Thompson and he had a spat. Ga refused to say anything except "end of the season". He appears to also have made his deal well in advance but at least he didn't stare down the camera and say I love the club and want to remain a one club player. At least GA didn't stare down the camera and say no deal has been done. It was never about the money for me - it was about the outrageous press conference statements he made.

  43. And there it is. Don't think for a moment that I think what I said will make a difference to you. But it needs to be said. By all of us. You are a pain in the arse that ruins almost every good thing around here, You aren't alone, but you do make the top three. People come here to read and talk about football, not to see Stuie up on the bar, pants around his ankles, telling everyone what a figjam he is. Anyway... floor is yours. Gif or sarcasm or troll away. I'd prefer go away, but do what ya gotta do, bud

  44. Anyone see Beckham Jr. lose his marbles and try and take out Josh Norman from Carolina? He is likely to get suspended which is horrible cause we play them next week ?. We all know wildcard teams can win the whole thing and the two best teams right now in my eyes are Pittsburgh and Seattle. Both offenses are putting up big numbers and I wouldn't want to be playing them first up in the playoffs.

  47. I'm not convinced by Geelong, even after their 'bumper' trade period. There top liners are elite but their fall away dramatically after that to a lot of overhyped players. I don't think they'll be playing finals again in 2016. I think Freo will be in the bottom part of the eight as like Geelong, they haven't replaced their quality seniors over the past three trade/draft periods. North and Richmond have topped up again on senior players, but I see them holding steady at the 4-6 range. one of them may make a prelim, but they certainly won't win it. Port will be the big climbers this year IMHO; they remind me of Geelong in 2004-6. Geelong played deep into the finals in 04 and 05 and were desperately unlucky not to make it into a Grand Final. Big things were predicted of them in 06, but it unravelled dramatically. Similar story to Port for 2015, many had them tipped as a flag fancy but form, injuries, luck and even a bit of complacency combined to see them miss the eight. I'm expecting them to be back at the pointy end of September in 2016 and may even take the whole thing. Then of course there's us... should win the flag.
