Emma Quayle did the calculations (so if I'm wrong, blame her .... and me for being too lazy to check them!) and she said that the tipping point for the Gold Coast trade was 11th next year. In other words, if we finish 11th or better next year then we win the trade, but if we finish worse then we lose. But we clearly knew that we could quickly turn pick 10 into pick 7. So the tipping point for a win in this trade for us is now 14th (but still 11th for Gold Coast). Plus GWS get more points than they would have. That's a win-win-win and good trading from all parties because we have all come together with the same assets and all walked away better off. Plus it's a tremendously fulfilling way to screw Essendon and Carlton .... especially since we did it with the picks that originally came from Collingwood!11 points

Some of us have left it a bit late this year but I'm confident we can make up for lost time and become draft experts within a month.9 points

Naturally Ive spent a significant portion of the last 18 hours rolling around the scenarios in my head. Pick 7s a bit of a game changer in our strategy. Weideman was highly unlikely to get to 10, but is a reasonable chance to be there at 7 IF Melbourne take Parish. I suspect that Essendon wont go with Curnow & Weideman given they are looking for a midfielder as well. Francis would be a good fit at GC, but they would like Milera as well (a Scotty Clayton type if ever there was one), Weideman is in the frame, but Id be slightly surprised if they went there. Meaning we could get the mid we need as well as a key forward. If we go with Curnow (who is still very much in the frame), no way Parish gets to us, and we miss Weideman when Essendon snaffle him up. If we go Parish and both key forwards are gone, then we probably take Francis, who can play forward and on talent I reckon is still top 3 quality. We have a greater chance of meeting all of our needs if we pick Parish at 3. In deciding to go for the mid at 3, I think we'll definitely bid on Mills if one hasn't already been matched by Sydney. I suspect we'll leave GWS alone in the academy bidding given how accommodating they were in the trade period.7 points

Giving up the first rounder in 2016 says to me that the club is backing itself in to be competitive next year. After so many years of being in the doldrums, it's nice to see the club being confident about its prospects. Hopefully it rubs off onto the players and it turns into more wins.7 points

Dees sign SOS aka Son of Smith Interesting. About time we used a Category B spot. Anyone know any more?6 points

Thing that gets me is Luke Hodge, a poster boy for fhe game, a club captain gets caught drink driving which kills how many people on our roads each year and everyone lets it slide fairly easy... A bloke snorts a line of rack and it's the end of the world, yes drugs are illegal but is a bloke doing a line of coke compared to some driving under the influence of alcohol more of a danger and a worse scenario ? I know which one has holds graver consequence. Yes drugs kills thousands of people each year but that's a different argument. People (mainly media) need to get this into perspective6 points

Parish is compared to Whitfield who hasn't set the world on fire. We need to go for bigger bodies unless we want to wait 5 years for him to put on some size without losing confidence or being constantly injured in that period. Francis for me.5 points

It does seem that Parish is the consensus pick 3. If one of Curnow, Francis or Weideman were available at pick 7, it's a win no matter how you look at it.5 points

We haven't lost it, we've taken it this year. You'd have to jump through a lot of hoops to see today's trades as a negative/loss. Still, true to D'Land form, there'll always be at least one.5 points

Today should be a lesson for those who wanted to do the trades early and for those who continually wanted to play hard ball. MFC and GWS clearly had a plan from the beginning of trade period to use the system to benefit both parties. They were prepared to do this because of a trust between the parties. This trust was also evident in the initial GCS trade. Playing hard ball only puts people off side. MFC with Mahoney and Roos have built a reputation of being sensible to deal with and trustworthy. We have clearly worked on outcomes that are "win win" which is the key to all successful negotiations. Well done MFC. Let's hope the posters who shot off at the mouth learn from this. I'm so sick of blokes coming out slagging decisions and then saying "I'm happy to eat humble pie" and then being stupid enough to make exactly the same mistake two minutes later. On another note, I wonder if Prodee is still "underwhelmed".5 points

Hyperbole. There is a required role to be played and he, Pedersen, and/or Frost are the players that can fill that role. Frost is not a good enough forward from his limited time up there. If Pedersen's form keeps Dawes out of the team then great - but he isn't 'completely ineffectual' and he will play games. And he will play in games that we will win.4 points

Love this bit from his dad Shaun "He can definitely jump higher than me" Wow! I can see why we were happy to turf Howe!!!4 points

The players coming in are all faster and more 'aggressive' than the players going out. I'm very happy with that. I'm also very happy knowing that the club has targeted a top kid from well in advance, and is so sure of them that they've gone to great lengths to secure the pick to guarantee getting the player. Even better, if we end up going Parish+Curnow, everyone on here will have someone to be happy about from the draft, and we can spend the next decade running a thread debating who is better of the two.4 points

My mail is that Curnow is not nearly as competitive as Parish. He also "struggles defensively", which I also picked up on when I watched him this year. When the ball hit the deck after a marking contest, there wasn't a whole lot of effort to apply pressure from Curnow. Also, the Stringer/Darling comparisons are off. He's not nearly as explosive, and this is evident in his sprint times from the combine. Even this far out from the draft, I'm pretty comfortable saying that I'm 95% confident Parish will be playing in red and blue next year. Pick 7 is harder to pick, but I think at this stage Weideman is most likely to be selected based on who I expect to be available.4 points

Wouldn't it be prudent to be there just in case something falls out of the tree ? There may be something happening, or it may be due diligence.4 points

IMO our improvement next year will come from the fact that these players missed huge parts of the year and will make the team better should they play most of the year: Frost played 3 out of 23 Salem 10 of 23 Tyson 15 of 23 Pederson 7 of 23 Kent 4 of 23 Petracca 0 of 23 Viney 16 of 23 55 games played from top 22 players out of a possible 161 If these players play 140 games next year, we will improve significantly.4 points

BF has some excellent junior football watchers. I'm not sure of this persons bona fides, however, they state that Curnow is a mid first and foremost. 7. Charlie Curnow - Vic Country (191 cm, 95 kg key forward/inside midfielder) Style/Comparison: Jake Stringer Charlie Curnow is one of the most underrated prospects in this draft and partially due to an unfortunate dislocated knee that forced him to miss the championships, has flown under the radar strongly. While many salivate over his highly rated teammates Rhys Mathieson and Darcy Parish, Curnow has quietly gone about his business rather impressively. Curnow is a strong-bodied midfielder who has starred up forward because of the lack of key forwards at the Falcons. In many games, Curnow has kicked a handful of goals and then gone into the middle and won plenty of inside ball. His style is not too dissimilar to a Jack Darling, Jake Stringer or Jarryd Roughead type with his combination a dominant forward presence and physical and athletic inside grunt work through the middle. There is scope for Curnow to develop a similar game to Josh Kennedy at the Swans should a club decide to play him as a pure inside midfielder. But forward of centre is where I think he has the most potential, as, like most kids who have a late growth spurt (which Curnow has), he has got the height of a forward but athleticism and nous of a bloke much shorter. With his rate of development both physically and in football terms, it is likely that Curnow continues to progress and becomes one of the best players from this draft.4 points

No games, don't overthink it - just pick the bloke you think will be the best footy player available at that pick. Big bodied mids win tough footy, finals are tough footy. Just keep that in mind...4 points

Well, that's the best thing about us having pick 3 and 7. We're in a position to be the club that takes whichever player Melbourne foolishly overlooks at 3!4 points

Its all a game. Possibly not over. Im now very impressed with the gamesmanship employed by JM and mates. If the first rule of fight club is not to talk about it. Then first rule of Trade Period is to keep all guessing and baited. No disrespect to any here but i would offer up the idea of 'believe nothing of what you hear, little of what you think you see and take on board the results. Its a game. ..and the most relevant rule to it is....there are none.4 points

The AFL decided to ignore the Treloar 'secret surgery' which ostensibly his manager, Bulcher arranged and paid for. Apparently, Collingwood knew nothing! Very Sgt Schultz like . Bulcher has form...was Scully and Tippetts manager when they 'conned' their clubs. (He was suspended for a year and Tippett for 6 months.) GWS have asked AFLPA association to investigate: "Greater Western Sydney has written to the association, which is responsible for the conduct of player agents, asking it to examine the role played by Peter Blucher in arranging the secret operation". http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-10-22/aflpa-to-investigate-treloars-manager-after-hip-surgery?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=RSS+feed%3A+AFL+Latest+News Will Bulcher take the fall or will he dob in Collingwood! Kudos to GWS for lodging the complaint.4 points

Trade Period = A. Not for the fact of the players and picks that we have managed to get but by the attitude in which we have got them. Can't say i can remember a trade period where we got on the front foot and planted a flag. Here's my prediction for the next few years. 2015 - I thought 6-8 wins. we got 7. Should have won 9 but you gotta lose some to win some. 2016 - i'm thinking 9-11 wins to set us up for a massive trade period next year to bring in some top end talent to add some polish. May sneak in or just miss out on finals . Ladder 8th - 11th. Crowds back up, membership up, the love is back. Hogan signs for another 5. 2017 - Lock for finals. 1st year of Goodwin's reign. Close final win / loss first week. Ladder 5th - 8th. Massive off field signing to catapault us on and off field. 2018 - Top 4 smokey. Ladder 3rd - 6th. Will win first final. Lose in heartbreaker in second week.. The premiership clock is at 10 PM. Our window opens now. A 2007 Hawthorn type year here. Goodwin extends by three years after 2018. 2019 - The years of buildup and patience now start to show. A top 4 lock. Ladder -1st - 4th. Goodwin's 3rd year playing attacking exciting football. haven't had this feeling since the days of "Run and Carry." Will make prelim. Injuries get us at the end of the season and we just couldn't sustain it. 2020 - It's 12 o'clock on the premiership clock. Our core that came through in 2013/14/15/16 are in their prime. Top 2 finish guranteed with the competition having us as favourites. It's an Essendon 2000 type of year. We just want it more than anyone else. This is Goodwin's team now. membership at 54,000. The siren sounds. The drought is over. A 6 goal win. Let the party of a lifetime start. We won this for Jonsey and the warriors who kept the flame burning through the dark times. We can all die happy now. 2021 - Do you think we would stop at just the one? Top 2 lock again. fly through to the Grand Final where once again our class and experience are just too good in a scrappy game. A 5 goal win. It's back to back . Goodwin doesn't say it, the players don't say it but we are all thinking it? 3-peat? 2022 - ?4 points

Think of a smaller Angus Brayshaw/Nick Dal Santo in terms of he is a footballer first before athlete. Can play inside and outside, his first 20m is quick off the mark. Not your typical soft outsider as i have seen him burrow under packs and use his quick hands and smarts to get him out of traffic. In saying that though i have no doubt that he will start his career as a wingman and we'll see that outside dash and polish we lack big time. Also has the ability to go back and become the number 1 distributer off a half back due to his precise disposal.4 points
