You are dead wring! of all the disposals Grimes had yesterday one didn't go to a MFC player. Instead, a number of passes were spot on including a 50 m left foot job on the member's wing People in this site are absurd about Grimes. His courage is remarkable and he's a damned good defender8 points

Have you forgotten this post already: So they are 'twice as good as us' until we beat them, at which point they are a 'team dwelling in the same bottom of the competition as ourselves'. You were either wrong to be so pessimistic about our chances, or wrong to dismiss the value of this win. Or, actually, wrong about both.7 points

Just watched the reply. VANDENBERG was IMMENSE!!!! Did so well with the ball, but what he did off the ball: pressure, tackling, harassing, blocking etc. was HUMONGOUS too. What a pick up. http://www.afl.com.au/video/smart-replay7 points

Your constant whining about Bail is very tedious. He actually put in a huge effort on the weekend and kept the pressure up. He might not have had many touches, but he cracked in hard and was hugely important. Everyone gets you don't like him but stop banging on about it.7 points

Go to 1:14... Toump putting his body on the line in defensive 50 and getting flattened in the process. Great courage and more proof hat the fools that allude to him being timid are clowns.7 points

Lol OD, does your entire day involving skimming the forum for a positive post and finding a way to make it a downer? I went from the 400 game thread to this one and both posts were you being all sad. Cheer up mate! Someone else is crap instead of us! Having said that I enjoy your predictable negativity. It is a bastion of certainty in these volatile times.6 points

Team balance, I reckon the games we have won the match committee have the balance right. Go back to changes for the Freo game, few on here were worried about Dunn on the tall forwards, he was getting towelled, some suggested bringing in Fitzy for that balance, it enables Dunn to take the third tall, makes sense. The forward line, it just hasn't worked with the three talls, Dawes has been ordinary, we revert back to two talls with Howe, all of the sudden we score. Playing two defensive forwards worked, unfortunately the two we played are limited but it worked. The two most questioned players on the wings, both gave us skill and run. The back six looked good again Garland was our fourth defender, this is the best role for him, add in Cross and Grimes the balance was good.6 points

Its good to see Jack Grimes enjoy a win. I have seriously felt for this bloke and if anyone that deserves a bit of success its Jack Grimes. Been through some horrid losses during his time To make it even more sweeter he played a beauty of the game. I hope he continues his form and stays in for the rest of the year.6 points

Love the Bugler playing when we have won! I couldn't make the game on Sunday but caught the last qtr and a half and could hear him on TV. Awesome! Just picture this...... it's GF day and the dees have just kicked a goal to go up by 35 points at the 22 minute mark of the last quarter. Enter the bugler playing the grand old flag.... That would be the greatest day of my life (sorry to my wife).5 points

The fact they undertook an injection regime of this scale and can't produce records of it should in my opinion mean every person involved should be banned from the AFL. Banned substances add another layer to what is already a disgusting situation, and I'm yet to hear a single quality argument from anyone associated with Essendon that justifies the actions of the club and certain officials. Until that happens my respect for the club and code is all but lost5 points

I had a personal experience at a Hawthorn training session in the late sixties. I was invited to train and was paired up against the thug. He hit me every time I went near the ball. He got invited back, I didn't.5 points

We will crack 40,000 when we win a couple of our practise matches and stop getting a flogging in the first 7 or 8 games. The capitulation against GWS & the beltings from Freo & Hawthorn killed off the membership momentum. Supporters have been given too many false dawns.5 points

You can guarantee that will be a thorough investigation and that the AFL will leave no stone unturned to get the truth.5 points

Not really...we were much worse than this. If they bring in Mark McLure to overview the football department and appoint the next coach then they will be close to par.5 points

Watch the replay - the moment of impact was a split second after Murphy actually kicked the ball. Jones was about 5m away & not going to get anywhere near Murphy. There were a number of similar occasions in the game - player running with ball being chased by opponent - where the shepherding player just put their body in the way of the chasing player & blocked them, and sometimes even tried to cushion the impact. Goodes, who had had a few minor scuffles during the game (e.g. with Hogan after Howe marked over him) and had been crunched in a few hard tackles, chose to accelerate, jump off the ground and hit Jones front-on, late and high. It was an unnecessary high hit that resulted in Jones being concussed and being subbed off. It's the sort of head hit that the AFL was trying to stamp out not so long ago. If that was "careless" and "medium impact", I'd not ever want to see what "reckless" and "high impact" to the head looks like. Many players have had careers cut short because of "fair bumps" of this nature. Being in the health field, I hate this sort of injury, especially as on this occasion it was totally avoidable from the health point of view. I like the Dogs, and I like Goodes as a player, and if my favourite Melbourne player did what Goodes did, I'd say exactly the same - the MRP need to come down hard every time on this sort of incident. And Douglas hits a GWS player (Callan Ward) & gets 4 weeks (down to 2 by some magic formula), while this is 2 down to 1. Seems that some heads are more "sacrosanct" than others. The MRP is just a bad sitcom, week after week. They continually fail the "common sense" test.5 points

Just watched the replay last night. I can't believe Jesse has only played 7 games. He is absolutely amazing. My heterosexuality is now seriously in doubt.5 points

There is mongrel and then there is going when it is your turn. ( for the record - Robbie Flower did not have any mongrel about him but absolutely went when it his turn) He may not have mongrel in him like Riley has mongrel but he showed on the Sunday that when the ball is on the line and he has to go - he goes - see post 285 and his effort in the second quarter. One swallow doesn't make a summer but even with some "panic moments" it was a pleasing to see a lot of hard efforts, hard running and clean first time gives. As for Grimes - he had his best game on the weekend for almost 2 years. What I really like is the way he attacked the ball and attacked the contest. So ....if Sunday was one off for both of them then like all players who don't perform they will be on shakey ground but if they both continue to have games like Sunday then they will be here next year5 points

Always been a huge Leon Cameron fan. Loved him as a player and he's as smart a coach as he was a player. But let's face it, GWS had so many high draft picks that they couldn't lose. They were always going to be a fearsome team at some stage. It was a matter of when, not if. It's like someone who's inherited a trillion dollars telling everyone the secret of how to make money.5 points

I will also add that you need clean contested possession to get better uncontested possession and we got clean possession away from the clearances on Sunday.4 points

Just watched the final quarter again and it was honestly one of the best quarters of football (if not the best) that i've seen us play since 2010-11. Jones, vandenBurg, Brayshaw and of course Vince were immense in the midfield. All were hitting targets (Brayshaw had some cracking touches) and crunching the opposition (Reily's tackle outside the Bulldogs' 50 says it all). Both Watts and Toumpas had some important touches as well. Loving the Hogan/Pederson forward combo with Garlett crumbling at their feet. That handball From Hogan was Scott Pendlebery like. He was aware of everything around him and knew that Pedders was running towards goal. Although Garlett didn't have a huge game, he backed his talent and ability to kick the goal from the boundary. (Must've had a couple lessons from Fitzpatick) Speaking of which, how good was Fitzy down back?! That combination of size and speed is a rarity in the AFL these days and he applied it well in the defensive 50. He also allowed Howe to go forward as well where he looks far more dangerous and interested. No complaints anywhere....Bring on the Power4 points

Well, you must have loved the 5 contested possessions Riley had then... Toumpas had 17 UPs, Jones also had 17 UPs, vanders had 16 - it's a huge part of the reason why we won. And why any team wins; GC, Brisbane, Carlton and us are the only teams averaging less than 200 UPs a game. Elite company... I hope all the players got some confidence from the weekend - Riley included, but the biggest reversal of form was for Spencer and Toumpas. I am happy for them, and not still pointlessly bitter about what could have been they way some are.4 points

One of the big differences on radio is that unless you are at the ground you can't see all the mistakes he makes in the call. A very average caller with very little understanding of the game.4 points

The joke of an award has just been slapped by the AFL..... Jesse Hogan named in the Team of the Week - yet no sign of McCarthy. Seriously WTF?? One must assume the award is purely a marketing campaign now for the West Sydney Merchant Bankers.4 points
-
I have no issue with McCarthy getting nominated. He's had a great year, and probably could have been nominated three or four times by now. The problem is the practice of nominating average players who have one very good game (eg McIntosh, Honeychurch, Gregson, Hartung) over players like McCarthy and Hogan who have made a solid contribution every week. Plus the fact that it is much more difficult to play key position or ruck as a young player, than it is to get cheap kicks on the flanks. Ten possessions by McCarthy and Hogan in their positions equate to about forty possessions by McIntosh.4 points

Sacking Malthouse would be yet another idiotic move by a blues board who still don't seem to understand that their list is rubbish. First they decided that Ratten was under-performing and that they needed a better coach to take the team deep into finals. Then they discover that the team was actually doing better than it had any right to, and now they want to sack Mick for not being able to magically conjure success. How long exactly did it take for the Pies to win a flag under Mick? 10 years was it? He took a declining list, made hard decisions and rebuilt the squad until they were a consistent threat and eventually won. That's his game. If they didn't want to back him in long term they should never have hired him. Right now they need to accept that their list is shot and back him to start over. Give him a long-term extension and license to trade off their under-performing high picks while they still hold some value. With some astute trading they could see some serious improvement in five or six years.4 points

I don't have a problem with the misinformation, to me it shows how foolish they really are. The more they say the worse it gets.3 points

Yes people are kidding themselves about Frawley. Sadly he will have a much easier time of it at Hawthorn, less inside 50s to deal with for a start. He's usually drawn even with Franklin or just lost the contest in a team that gets unceremoniously spanked by Hawthorn every game. This is no surprise with a great team around him. Free Agency is ridiculous to say the very least.3 points

Some of our supporters complain that Roos isn't in the job for the long haul and took the role for all the wrong reasons.... They must be confusing Roos with Mick Malthouse. Nobody has ever succeeded doing anything out of spite.3 points

'I'm jealous of Hogan. If i was playing against him i'd king hit him behind play when he wasn't watching. Like that good looking Smith fella. See how pretty he is after a broken nose. I could mark and crumb. Hogan will never reach my level. Did i say i'd king hit him?' At least i think he said that. I could be wrong.3 points

McCarthy has been excellent and was excellent again on the weekend against the crows who are a good team. Quite amusing listening to the conspiracy theories on here.3 points

My favourite was when he claimed that Brett Goodes bump was good, fair play. Not only did goodes leave the ground and make high contact with his shoulder but it was also unnecessary contact and Matt Jones was very lucky to not end up in next week.3 points

Lots of love this week PF. This must really be pi55ing you right off hey? Everyone is just laughing at you and SWYL now. Not even one argument, just mirth at your bewilderment, and your ability to keep [censored] on one of our kids. How dare he have a good one!!! why that little plick! You must be humiliated. Don't worry, you won't go hungry, the Humble Pie is nearly done mate. You can thank Toump on the way out the door.3 points

Great game wonderful to watch and one of the best and most conssitant matches I have seen from us in a very e. Fitzy was great (and for anyone who has read the Farseer trilogy, Fitz's new nickname should become the assassin!) Spencer had the best game i have ever seen from him, the tapwork was great and the mongrel was huge for us. kicked well this week and looks to have found some confidence Hogan... well The hulk is the best thing to happen to this club in living memory, and the difference he makes to the side, the way he straightens up the way we play is enormous. he is not just a full forward to this team, many times he was up the field, making the contest and doing the right things. vanDemon will go down as one of the best rookie pickups of all time the pressure he applied was fantastic. the Toump will gain lots of confidence that he can actually play this game from that performance which is great The transformation of Vince into a tagger has been a revelation and he seems perfect for this role, freeing up Jones(who performed this most of last year) to do his thing. Pederson is great, and so much more valuable than doors, especially as he is flexable where he plays and can actually mark a footy. Brayshaw keeps blossoming, and the fact he had a killer final qurter is a fantastic sign from a young kid. Jones was his usual (2012-2014) self Cross, Dunn, Garland, T mac were their usual selves, the great defence we have seen all year a few matches under grimes belt and he is starting to remember how to play the game again Watts did not get a heap of the ball, but when he did, and what he did with it was brilliant. Howe looked good again in the forward line, and some passion that had been recently missing seemed to return Newton Garlett and Lumumbia were both servicable The last quarter when reily came on was a good display, and I look forward to seeing more Matt jones had a good third quarter and did some good things and bail played for us the pressure we applied for the whole game was great, the amount of times not one but two or more demons were tackling one dogs player, and the amount of times we would put their player on the ground after they disposed of the ball. it made the dogs look over their shoulders and worry about us no periods of poor football!!!! how nice is that to watch!!!!! absorbing pressure, without panicking and making an inspired comback at the end, the boys certainly did not look tired in the last quarter finally to sort-of quote queen "And bad mistakes, they were quite few" --- it is so nice not to get frustrated with poor/stupid kicks/hanballs/decisions we were the cleanest i have seen for ages. I am proud of you boys, lets see more of it! Carn The Dees3 points
