First post. Getting the impression of a well run professional club. An administration that supports the football department, no off-field issues or media stories, head coach clearly in charge who commands total respect and who delegates to his staff, strong focus on development, well organised training programs, players seeing improvement in fitness and skills. There seems to be better organisation and method. Also greatly improved list. It has been a long time coming. Yet to be seen that this translates into results but clear improvement seen. Encouraging signs.14 points

I equate critiquing players with reviewing a movie. Actors/Directors are paid to produce entertainment that we the public pay good money to see. We discuss, criticise and applaud individuals and a performance as a whole. Football is no different. For me it is all about being constructive. Calling players wimps, spuds and hacks to me is unnecessary and serves no purpose. To suggest that Jack Watts impose himself more physically at a contest or McKenzie/Terlich improve their disposal worded respectfully is something footballer should expect as they are being paid to perform and "put on a show". I do like balance in criticism and also prefer posters who criticise but also praise when praise is earned.8 points

As someone who has only read this forum for a long time, you could all stop sniping at each other! I have never posted until now because I don't want to be taken apart for saying the "wrong thing". I am a new Demon supporter, because a family member is in the team, I am overseas and this is the best way to find out all the news. Interesting threads go way off track because too many people take offence to differing opinions. It is ok to have differing opinions, it is not necessary to crap on and on hoping to get everyone thinking the same way as you, or knocking them for thinking differently. Quite frankly some of you are just plain nasty.5 points

That's such a pathetic argument. As long as the attack isn't personal then we are well within our rights to pot players for certain reasons, whether that be skill level, commitment on the ground, work ethic etc. It's my right as a supporter and as a member of this club. It's no different than sitting in the pub with a few mates dissecting a loss over a couple of beers - we will praise the good moments and bemoan and criticise those that didn't go well. No-one is going to stop me having a crack at Jordie McKenzie for missing a set shot from 15 metres out by going: "Sorry but I've lost all respect for you now unless you rock up to training and tell him that to his face." That's simply ludicrous. You don't have to agree with the criticism of certain players, just as we don't have to agree with your bias towards many. But to say that you don't respect us because we can't say it to their face is childish and short sighted in the extreme.5 points

Living in Sydney, I look forward to reading all of Saty's training reports including football-related conversations he has with the players. That said, I agree with Wiseblood - that someone's not prepared to criticise a player to his face doesn't make that criticism unworthy or mean that it should not be stated here.4 points

Thank goodness for Burgo. By my reckoning if Saty set out for Maroochydore on his scooter from Gosch's Paddock immediately after training on Friday, he'd be at about Seymour by now. I'm not confident he'll make it in time to be of any value to those of us who enjoy his reports and interaction with the players and footy department staff.4 points

Went down to training at Maroochy this morning and jotted down a few observations. I'll be able to get down to all the footy sessions if anyone has something particular they want to know. * Kent, Terlich & Spencer doing intervals separate to main group. Later Riley running laps by himself. * Overcast & a bit wet under foot (fair bit of rain lately) but doesn't take long to dry up. * Fair bit of match simulation focusing on forward entries from the back half. Viney & Frost getting praised for their decision making & disposal. * Jimmy Plunkett from Leading Teams working exclusively with the Dees I think. Nice guy * Hogan like a caged lion wanting to rip apart his prey. Got a nice confidence streak/ swagger about him. * Toumpas getting a bit of kicking responsibility from the back half. Can't fault his kicking. I think he is becoming a Roosy favorite. * Dunn positioning himself for more leadership responsibility this year perhaps - very vocal. Just a hunch. * Guys looking a bit tired. Maybe the heat? I think they had been at it for an hour or two before I turned up based on the comments from Jones on website. * Noticeable compared to previous training/ coaches that there seem to be less standouts and more of an even spread across the Board. Similar to what others have observed - Sydney-esk? * Hate to say it but Crossy is looking a tad old. One last push? * Didn't notice Roosy much at first compared to other coaches. Not as egotistical. That seems to rub off on the players. There not as on edge about everything. Not quite as much fig-jam going around. * Watts is looking fit, lean and toned. Not lacking any confidence the young fella. * Weren't getting a drill right at one stage (I think) and Roosy made the point of moving to another oval to get it right. * Finished off with some games play. Seeing which team can kick from one end to the next finishing with a goal. * Progressed from Torps to Torps on the non preferred to drop kicks on the non preferred and wound up with a netball ring shoot out. Lumumba and Garlett surprisingly can stroke it alright. Still trying to perfect the photo gig so I'll see if can get a few good ones for you guys over the next few days.3 points

If your wonderfully negative first post is indicative of your usual attitude then you should fit in nicely.3 points

Just don't go discussing any of the players' flaws if you're not prepared to let them know personally. You hero.3 points

This is exactly what Essendon's strategy is: delay as long as possible, complain loudly about the length of time it is taking via their cabal of tame journalists, and then blame ASADA for the delays, and hope everyone will get bored and it will all go away. Exactly the same strategy was pursued by Armstrong and his army of lawyers in the US: it eventually got him nowhere, as this will with Hird. ASADA/WADA will be vindicated here too. By the way I have been predicting for some time on here that some personnel on here will get more than 2 years, incLuding Hird getting life. A number of my fellow Demonlanders thought this was fanciful. Armstrong got life in all sports: so will Hird, although not through the AFL tribunal system who are responsible for handing out local penalties. It will come via the WADA appeal to COS in Switzerland some time later. We have a way to go here yet. The local penalties will be far from the end of it.3 points

Mitch is no longer a Demon I have no care for him anymore. My interest in him is when they play us and I hope we contain him otherwise he is irrelevant to me. I wish him no personal harm nor do I wish to see him be a great success on the field at the Cats Time to move on. The old saying "You can't worry about who you haven't got, you can only worry/control those who you do have" is very appropriate in this circumstance3 points

That would make it a 50/50 chance between Geelong and North, wouldn't it? Thank you everyone, you've been a great audience, try the beef I hear it's great, and don't forget to tip your waiters.2 points

Yeah but the diff is its not a Melb player who is being speculated about so we can sit back and enjoy the entertainment and all the bs that comes with it.2 points

Yay for derailing threads. How about we just agree that we're ALL Heroes? Personally, I can't get to many training sessions, so I really appreciate the insights from those who do go along and share it with us. The different perspectives give us a great idea of how the team is tracking, and personally I love Saty's little interactions with the players as it gives yet another angle from which to view training. Great work to everyone who keeps turning up and I really hope you don't let the trolls get to you.2 points

It just seems some people are unable to have a discussion without personal abuse Bossdog. You would think we would be used to it by now. I guess the surprising thing is I am still surprised!2 points

I bet Margaret Thatcher would have been effective off the half back flank in her day. All knees and elbows scything through traffic like Bodaicea.2 points

I particularly like this bit: Training has come a long way, even in the past year under Roosy’s watch. It’s certainly noticeable. And the size and change in body shape has been evident on many.2 points

With this kind of ferocity shown at training (just like his brother), I'm sure he is just the same, and I hope we do someday pursue him: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=101524387051763242 points

Great goal. But who's the muppet commentator that says: "I don't think Paul Roos realised just how good Bernie Vince was when he picked him up." ? Yeh right...2 points

I think my favourite quote was something along the lines of: "All the boys want the same thing. To win games." What a unique thing for a team to unite over.2 points

I heard this on the radio late last year, Clark has done the opposite to Moloney. He's gone from Brisbane to Melbourne to Geelong (Monoley did the oppositie order). What does this have to do with anything? Nothing, but I found it interesting.2 points

That, and the fact it is absolutely routine in soccer for top sides to take a 'soft' team to the field against weak opponents, to rest stars for more important games and leagues.2 points
-
The reason a weaker EPL team is more likely than a weaker AFL side is to upset a power side on any given day is because a soccer final score could be two goals to one, therefor a lucky goal is far more likely to decide the result in a soccer match than in a footy match.2 points

If the players are found guilty I expect all the support staff to be subsequently charged. Including Hird and Reid. This may see Goodwin at risk too. I am I interested to know what the club has done to mitigate this. Hopefully, enough.1 point

If your FB/CHB is 'setting up play' you may as well raise the white flag, inform the bookies, and walk off the field. His pertinent skills involve what you don't see eventuating, not what you see him screw up a couple times a game. I really don't think that you could ask for a better 22 year old defender and his exposed form over his overworked first few years.1 point

The law is an a.s.s they say and can be bought just as easily.I would expect it is all a matter of discretion for our intrepid correspondent . If the pace was fair enough he is likely to be kind and merely bark orders. I think the Palanquin has been outlawed but I know Bitters was lobbying the Indos to bring it back. The addition of the wheel would be of great relief the guy doing the monumental Task of moving Bbo post diet failure, from eatery to eatery ,like a grotesque, sweating sloth.1 point

How to attract members in two steps: Advertise. Get members to wear demonland caps to games or something. Stop the trolling BS. The mods need to do their jobs and keep threads on track. Every thread I read winds up being derailed by the same few posters reenacting the same tired arguments. You'd be amazed how much these two things would do to improve the place.1 point
