  1. Signed up seven kid members to the club yesterday. Three of whom were new-born sons of mates of mine - fathers all support the Crows. Get Danger and we've got these boys for life. That said, it'll be bloody hard to dislodge Danger from Adelaide. But everyone knows that. As an aside, and I've posted it before, but my son is the youngest ever member of this club. In its entire history. Signed him up as soon as I found out his sex and could give him a name - he was 20 week fetus at the time. His favourite player is Bernie Vince. Well, I reckon it is - he can't talk yet.

  3. I wrote this in the equalisation thread a few weeks ago and I want to repost it. It breaks my heart to see what is going on with our great competition. I no longer have expectations that the MFC will ever play in a GF again....... this is not right. The reason is FA. It simply does not allow teams like Melbourne any opportunity to climb the ladder. Every year since FA came in we have lost a top 5 player. This year we will lose our best KP player in defence and our best KP player in attack. 2 of our top 5 (one to FA). How can any team rise when they lose there best players at the end of each season to the leading clubs. Unless urgent changes are made to FA Melbourne and other teams will die and the competition will be weaker as a result. This is what I propose as from the Equalisation Thread: FA is destroying our competition. Between 1996 and 2006 every team played off in a Preliminary Final, now we have a two tier comp with the smaller clubs nothing more than feeder teams for the large clubs. The AFL needs to step in quickly before its too late. The AFL needs to adopt the US NFL FA system and must urgently make the following adjustments. Tier 1: Teams 1 - 4: Forbidden from Free Agency. These teams can only lose players not gain players. There is no compensation for lost players. Tier 2: Teams 5 - 8: Restricted Free Agency. These teams can only gain players if they lose players. There is no other compensation. Tier 3: Teams 9 - 12: Open Free Agency: These teams can poach FA with no restrictions, they can also lose players to FA. No draft compensation. Tier 4: Teams 13 -16: Open Free Agency but can't lose players. All players wishing to leave must be traded. Therefore no draft compensation required. Making these changes would reverse the flow of players. The good teams would lose players to the poor teams, the reverse to which it is today. The big teams will still have an advantage when down the ladder as naturally players will want to play for them. I call on the AFL to urgently make these changes for the long term health of our competition. No one wants to see the same teams win every year like in the EPL. AFL is only played in Australia, destroy the competition and the sport will suffer.

  4. Roos was "startled" by the result Saturday. "Stunned". Said Sydney just didn't respond to the pressure. Key to Hawthorn's success is their impeccable ball movement. Hawks slow the ball down by keeping possession, allowing them to breathe, forcing Sydney to work harder for no result and exhaust themselves. Have to tread very fine line between spraying players and being comforting, because it can damage relationships permanently. Believes Clarkson is the best coach in the game. "You have to remember where they were, what they were like when he got there. They were a really poor team, building team, young team." On improving: Have to "start at the start", only way to get to their level is being as hard as the Hawks. The one constant in grand final teams, they're hard, tough, they tackle. Thank god this guy coaches us, he understands each team's strategies flawlessly.

  5. Titus O'Reily: Heritier Lumumba has nominated Melbourne as the club he wants to be traded to. "I've always wanted to work with disadvantaged people."

  6. Terrible post. Here we are, a club on our knees, and we have an All Australian, premiership player nominate us over a preliminary finalist as his destination of choice. Meanwhile, players of incredibly low character like Clark are manipulating the system to leave us in the pile of [censored] we're in.Welcome Heretier. He's prepared to play for our colors and I'll back him every step of the way. Not to mention what an actual coach like Roos will be able to transform him into.

  7. Not getting a player who was never really coming to us other than in our own heads is not getting shafted. We're not worse off than we were before, it just seems that way as the prospect seemed so exciting. Don't get me wrong, I was hopeful and I'm a little bit disappointed too, but you've just got to be really careful getting your hopes up really high on so-so information. I think that's what a few people have done.

  9. To me this sounds like Danger is almost certainly on the move. Firstly there is no way that Conners has not spoken to Danger in the last two weeks....... an out and out lie. Secondly Conners failed to commit Danger to Adelaide. Thirdly this is exactly the same language used for Clark, Frawley, Rivers, Scully. "Clark loves the MFC"...... PLEASE!

  10. Clark can't be a delisted free agent because of the terms in the settlement agreement. "The AFL Players Association view is that Clark cannot be considered for free agency, because the terms of his settlement with Melbourne were equivalent to a player retiring and the rules prohibit players exploiting retirement as a back-door way of claiming free agency. So, Clark's options are either to play at Melbourne or find another club via a trade or the draft." http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/magpies-make-a-pitch-for-mitch-clark-20140909-10eobl.html#ixzz3EfNWQSwr

  11. Unfortunately, I was interstate at a wedding and unable to attend the GF. The GF has in previous years proven the most fertile field for finding out who we are targeting and what is likely to occur. As such i have no further news on Danger. I will see how I go this week, but alcohol indeed loosens lips. It is disappointing not to be able to take advantage of such an opportunity. For those who are confused, unlike Roos last year, I have never said we will get Danger, I have only said we are going hard at him. We can offer him the most coin and offer AFC the best deal....... but we need to convince a Danger. Obviously this is a tough sell, Roos will need to weave some magic. I am however aware of other A graders we are targeting, some have been mentioned, others if successful will be a suprise to the media and demonland but are very exciting prospects....... much the same as Tyson last year. Danger however is the only superstar on the market this year. I am sure you all understand why it is not in MFCs interest for me to let on who these players are. Particularly since it has become clear that there are those in the media who follow these threads.

  12. Finally get a player to nominate us as his preferred destination. Shame it's not the player any of us want. #melbournelyf

  13. I think what stings the worst was remembering the way he played for us. There was such passion in the way he went about everything. He was aggressive and put his body on the line. He was magical to watch. I think the feelings of betrayal are worsened because he embodied everything we wanted from a player, even for so few games. He cried when interviewed about Jimmy. Seemed to me to be as Melbourne as anyone could possibly be. I'm really disappointed it didn't work out.

  16. still can't believe people, nope sorry, MFC supporters are bagging out a 27 year old All Australian backman that wants, and i stress WANTS to come to our football club. Which i remind you has been and still is the laughing stock of the AFL. YOU ACTUALLY HAVE NO [censored] IDEA IF YOU THINK GETTING HIM IS A BAD IDEA.

  17. Man cant believe Collingwood isnt listening to his trade ideas Very clever article from Titus O'Reilly here that, when you think about it, sums up a vast majority of our posters during this time of the year. Well worth a read.

  18. ........waiting for Frawley and required compo. Picks 2 and 3 but we'll get Adelaide's first pick back with Danger.

  19. It looks like double speak! For us to actually announce we are approaching Crows there must be some real possibility that he can be had. By all accounts there have been plenty of overtures to him. Otherwise why would we make a public statement and waste time and energy.

  20. You have to take into account that free agency was introduced at a time that the AFL removed the priority pick and two new teams dominated the draft. It has been a perfect storm for bottom clubs like ours.

  21. I'd take their first round pick, we need to play hardball I'd rather see Mitch try his luck in the draft than accept way unders for him

  22. Agreed, also Bomber is a terrible liar. He's off to the Gold Coast. He was clearly uncomfortable answering the question.

  23. Gerard: Will you trade picks 2 and 3 for Dangerfield? Roos: (wry smile, took a moment to get his composure, didn't seem to be anticipating such a direct question). "First and foremost, he's a terrific player who is contracted for next year." Speculation started with Roo saying he was tradeable. "We haven't spoken to him." "If Frawley goes, we... everyone expects us to get pick 3". "We'll talk to Patty.. if he says he wants to leave Adelaide we'll look into it." Mentioned Robbo asked him about it before the show. Either way, all deflection. Saying they haven't talked is, for my money, another complete lie. There's a script all involved parties are following here. AFC, MFC, Roos, Patty, his manager.

  24. What a ridiculous thread! Danger coming to to the Dees! FMD!!! We are a bunch of poor desperate bastards - this is a fact. However some poor sods on this thread will pull their dicks clean off if they don't settle down.

  25. I'll put my hand up as one who didn't want him, have concerns about causing dressing room unrest, but he has upside and is improvement on Terlich, Strauss and Grimes off HBF. In Roos I trust as a coach who has the ability to appease players from varying backgrounds with varying character traits and get them to gel. I'm pleased an AA has nominated us as his club of choice, anyone who wants to wear the red and blue is someone I'm prepared to give a go, so if the deal gets done welcome aboard H

  26. Absolute rubbishI know for a fact being good friends with a Collingwood player the guys absolutely love H. They respect his views in life and is a genuine leader with the players especially the young ones as he does alot of off field work with them. He is also a pretty intense trainer and professional in his recovery. Players will be absolutely devastated that H is leaving and this will be a big win for us. Our player will come to love him and respect him. Also massive respect for H to choose us over north. Could of went to a club that was a game away from a grand final yet he chose a club thats been the bottom 4 for the last 8 years. I have more respect for him the Mitch Clark and Tom Scully.

  30. The way I see it is that the MFC has to get stronger on every line, not just the midfield although there is a weakness there in our depth and quality to be sure. I actually don't think we will have to give up a lot for HL, possibly less if it involves Clark. So if he can strengthen our half back, or move to a wing like some have suggested, I don't see this as a bad thing.

  31. I'm utterly sick of this doctor's orders bollocks being bandied around. I don't care where he goes - collingwood, Geelong, Timbuktu - the fact of the matter is that a player who was just about our best player and certainly most highly rewarded and regarded player last time he was injury free has abandoned us and we're getting so very little for him. It's not like he's leaving for 'home' of wa either or another unsuccessful club in need of a a key forward - he's going to a powerhouse. Being a feeder club sucks.

  32. AFL trade radio starts tomorrow and we could learn more about some of these draft rumours judging by the list of invitees:- • Paul Connors (manager of Ryder, Beams, Dangerfield) • Ben Niall (manager of Lumumba) • Josh Mahoney (Melbourne) and • Dean Warren (Brisbane Lions)

  35. Pick 2, 3, and 21 For Dangerfield, pick 10 and pick 29. Then Pies want to seperate the Clark/Harry deal and we agree Harry is a mid second round pick. Pick 29 for Harry.

  40. Another way for free agency is for the bottom 4 sides to be able to pick up free agents without it watering down the compo if you lose a player aswell, I bet we would be all over free agents this year but don't want to lose pick 3 as its to valuable

  43. If they are wanting in Roos words our equal best player and they see him in their 22, then we should be seeking a player in their 22 or a good pick.

  44. We need a strong midfield and a strong forward line - It's entirely possible to build all areas of a list. When Frawley played back this year our forward line was close to useless (and it looks like he is leaving) Dawes is a 3rd forward only and Hogan is a rookie recovering from stress fractures to his back (or such like) We need to start winning games and our improved midfield will need decent targets in order for that to happen. I say improved midfield because I expect our midfield to be bolstered with ready made talent. I also expect us to bolster our forward line. That extra key forward may or may not be brought in at the expense of one of our top end draft picks (if we end up with picks 2 & 3) Some creative thinking might have to be involved but given Roos' track record, that creative thinking can happen.
