I'll say this: For a bloke that it seemed a lot of people wanted traded, due to their paranoia he would bolt at the first opportunity, as he hasn't yet signed a contract extension... it's good to see James Frawley showing the commitment of attending preseason training well before he is required to, when others with the same requirements, but with far more that they need to prove, having not yet attended. Gotta love the bloke, and I'd say anyone who claims his declarations of love for the club in recent times are a smokescreen, are clearly poor judges of character.

Indeed, I thought it was inevitable that one of he or Nicholson would go. He was a player I always wanted to make it, as he played with the right type of aggression and, as you said, heart. Didn't really have the tools in the end - no shame in that. Really nice bloke too apparently. Thanks Nev.

That sums up my position pretty well BRFE. I'd love Scharenberg or Billings to slide but doubt that will happen. I've been on the Freeman bandwagon for some time but feel he's the kind of pick up that will go one of two ways. Either his pace and inside ball winning skills will translate to the AFL and he'll become a star or he'll be a bust. Can't see him playing 100 - 150 solid games. Acres was my pick for the MFC competition. Not quite sure why but he's had me interested for quite some time. Tall, versatile and skilled. Good combination. Anyway, I've actually committed to going to the draft so I get to tick another thing off my nerdy footy experience bucket list!

I don't know why so many attack Dunn. He has played in 3 out of every 4 games since we got him. He is in our best 22 ATM. He can play forward, back or in the middle as a tagger. He has a booming kick and can kick goals. Yes he isn't a star, but he is a very serviceable player and better than so many others we have drafted. How many stars have we drafted lately? I could delist plenty before Dunn.

i agree with this. I train in it and wear my jumpers a fair bit and to be honest. i have never noticed the the collar to the point where it became annoying. Its different but i dont think it would be a factor in not playing decent football

I hope they are not wasting more money on graphic designers to help 'evolve' the jumper again. Just get the blue right, put red above it, and let's try and win some games. I honestly stopped caring about the collars and stars a few embarrassing losses ago.

I haven't posted for a while but the topic of what Roos sees in Dunn has sparked a reaction. We all cringe when Dunn tries to intimidate (although he had a reputation as a bit of a sniper in TAC). However, he does manage to have an impact in most of his games. Early on he established a reputation for kicking goals, sometimes multiples. Later he developed a reputation for annoying an opponent, and I'm all for this. The only problem was that he frequently gave away free kicks for diving on an opponent...going to ground... giving away an unnecessary free and being out of the contest. Through all of this he has been able to get his hands on the ball... he is still able to kick distance (one of the biggest kicks at the club in 2013). His stats are very good... just turns over the long kick on occasions when other shorter options are ignored. He has a good body and he has a good motor. If Roos can impart a bit of 'good decision making' then we have a weapon off half back.

IF Roos thought that Dunn was as bad as some posters here, would he still be on the list? (I qualify that by admitting my unawareness of his contract status). I suspect he has a "secret plan" for him.

Untrue. Dunny nearly always beats or at least breaks even with his opponent and he is part of a back line that was bombarded and under extreme pressure last year. He lead our rebound 50's, Was top 10 for effective disposils and contested marks. He did however average 2 clangers per game but that wasn't high considering the rest of the team averaged about the same if not more. He finished 6th in our BnF and people think is isn't in our best 22?

That's not how it is, BB. There are 5 cars on the lot and one maybe two of them is the porsche, another two are solid toyotas and there is one made out of cheese and doesn't have an engine.

I saw a group of 15 or so players (not Dunn or Chip) doing repeat sprints up the Anderson St Hill. Not sure how many they did as I was only there for a couple, but they looked like they'd been going for a while when I got there and were still going when I left. McDonald leading all of them with Toumpas very hot on his heels, Trenners not far behind him and Jack Watts really putting in, consistently in the next group. Spencer, Fitzy and Pederson were lagging behind and Westrupp was being beaten by several of the coaches. Interestingly Roos was doing his own sprints but setting off well before the players and being beaten to the top by some. Not a bad tune up pre-Christmas.

My favorite part is where they talk about integrity framework. Please, VCGLR, tell me more about integrity while you rob pensioners of their pension and serve alcoholic drinks to alcoholics. I forgot all about this "investigation" which was clearly just a publicity stunt, which was always going to go nowhere.

Having trained in a MFC jumper with a collar, I can categorically say that I don't notice them, so would be surprised if they were uncomfortable to play in

I certainly have him in our best 22. Of course i can see his limitations but i reckon he is our most underrated player (if Demonland is a reliable gauge). Of course he is in our best 22. When was the last time he was dropped? Has played 117 games since his debut in 2006.

This has been probably the most exciting end of a season i have experienced. Usually around this time im thinking about the Cricket season coming up and i usually look down at the people counting down to the start of the AFL season and laugh to myself. Im not saying i never look forward to the next season but the last few years it hasn't been a highlight and the off season has given me a chance to restock my faith (my faith is always there but it takes a beating some years) and prepare for the first round. This year after playing most of the year with a caretaker coach under a cloud of who will coach us, rumours flying that its Roos no its not its Williams, no wait its Roos again etc then finding out that one of our major sponsors is leaving, then losing the other. Well we got our man in the end and i feel we have done a amazing job with our free agency/trade period. Having the likes of Hogan (i know he was already ours), Vince, Cross, Michie, Riley and Tyson all in the mix for our seniors, does make our list look a lot more like a decent playing list. Then there is all this talk about new sponsors but as all the leaks from the club have now been plugged there all rumours. There is also talk around about getting new jumpers. That's exciting for me too. not that i hated or loved the old ones and either way i was going to be getting new jumpers at the start of the year but that too is exciting. Obviously we will be getting a new sponsor/sponsors for the next season (hopefully for more then one) and new or old jumpers well as long as its red and blue and worn with pride, i am behind it (and in it). Now onto the topic of this thread. As i type we have 19,170 members and i know a lot of them are die hard roll over members but it still impressive. All of these factors have made me so excited about next season. Now i know ill probably be jumped on here about keeping the lid on it etc but i am not saying we are going to win every game etc or make the finals etc. I am just saying i am excited about watching us play. I have spent the last decade between Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra and watching game after game on TV or at the ground when i get a chance. It got to the point where i would support because i am a life long demon supporter. Always will be, Whole family are, my Sydney supporting partner is going to be, she just doesn't know it yet. This time i am one of those people counting the days. I am on the MFC website daily, im on Demonland all the time. I don't say much on here but i read a lot. Im so excited im am looking into having a couple of trips to the NT next year along with a lot of road trips to see my family, at the MCG, when the boys play. Hopefully we can keep the numbers rolling in and next year will be the first of a lot in the right direction for the club. Go Dees

I think you're definitely onto something here in a way. While the AFL can please itself and chose to be selective about who it takes on and who it doesn't, public bodies don't have that luxury and would be subjected to far greater scrutiny and higher standards of integrity. I will no doubt be shot down for saying this by those who don't understand how the system works, but Don McLardy and the team that defended our club deserve credit for the way they conducted the difficult process that led to the rather contrived settlement with the AFL over the so called "tanking investigation." We know now that the strain of that period had a role in destabilising the club and our team and ultimately brought down many of the board and officials. One hopes that at some stage in the future, history will record the truth about how it all happened.

I remember this investigation (a by-product of the tanking fiasco) by the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation caused quite a stir on here, with some fearing for we could potentially lose our gaming license which would have financially crippled our club. It seemed the investigation largely focused on AFL policy rather than our club itself. As the last post was in February, I don't think 'landers were too concerned (or had forgotten), but for those that were you can now rest easy.

If we do it again next year we could bring in a 2/3 rule (rewarding those who correctly tip 2 out of 3) I reckon picking the 3 roads winners should remain as the main basis of the comp. Say 1 point for 2 out of 3 and 3 points for getting all 3 correct ( 2/3 is quite achievable whilst 3/3 is rather difficult and should have a greater proportionate reward) 'cfh' would most probably still be in front if we had that revamped system but at least the points rewarded to all of us would be far more frequent! We could still have the 4 bonus weeks. I originally thought about picking the winners of each game as a tipping comp but that could easily become rather cumbersome (you kinda need something that's quick and easy if the goal is to have a number of regular participants) I also believe that posters should be able to enter at any time next year - starting late really wouldn't have an effect on those who are already involved (especially if those involved already had a number of points up) Having said all that, if someone was to come up with a whole new concept that was acceptable to all (or most), I'd be happy to roll that way. This years comp could best be described as cruel fun! (and I certainly never meant it that way!)

Freeman or Acres for me unless Sharenberg or Billings slide which must be unlikely. Salem did nothing for me in the championships and although some of highlights look good a 17 possession average as a midfielder is worrying.

I quite like the NFL site, if you can avoid some of the trash there are some decent analyses and videos, behind the scenes stuff (I always love the Sound FX clips they do, hearing coaches and players on game day is quite a novel insight), statistics are pretty good. Leaves the AFL site for dead.

Had some tools to play AFL, but the game against North Melbourne summed him up. Got a few early touches, than didn't go near it. As we were getting spanked by a team who wanted the ball more, he raised his elbow 2 seconds after Lindsay Thomas got rid of the footy and was lucky to get 2 down to 1. He missed the following week, an important game against Gold Coast which we got spanked and didn't play another game. He's clearly a great fella, been told that by players too, however he just didn't have what it took; had footy smarts.. but just didn't get it. Saw he got married recently, so hopefully the news is somewhat broken up by that. All the best Neville in your future endeavours.

I like the MFC logo/crest. It stamps us as who we are. I actually didnt mind the stars thing but if they go they go. Just make the jumper comfortable to wear, collar or none...not fussed personally. The most important aspect for the 2014 jumpers is company A on front and company B on back !!

As a lifetime Melbourne supporter, I have got used to us rolling straight out of one disaster into another. Perhaps that is why I tend to agree with you. The VCGR is a conservative box-ticking bureaucracy which would love to upstage the AFL. It is answerable only to the Minister (Michael O'Brien) who ( for all we know) might drink at the same water cooler as Ms Wilson. In our favour is the fact that if they overrule the AFL on us then they will be duty bound to look at the whole AFL competition. They will also have to factor into their findings the effect of the priority pick system which has now disappeared.Thinking it all through - I think you are probably drawing too much of a long bow. But you are right in alerting us to the potential seriousness of the development. It is not something we should dismiss lightly
