I want a premiership coach not because it guarantees us a flag, but because a premiership coach will put us on the right track culturally.6 points
-
Except that of those eight coaches, there are a few multiple flags at their second clubs. Malthouse - 3 (2 at his second, 1 at his third), Matthews 3, Barassi 4, Jeans 3, Hughes 4, Worral 5, bentley 2, parkin 3. So those 8 coaches, once they had finished their first coaching gig, ended up with a total of 27 VFL/AFL premierships at their second or third clubs. That's 23.3% of all premierships won by a coach not in his first senior coaching appointment. Everyone feel better?6 points

Seems like the leadership light has turned on in his head which is great. With what I've seen and heard from Grimes, N.Jones, Dawes and Garland recently, my faith in our team leaders is really growing.5 points

what are you, high? every club in the comp would consider that kid to be the biggest asset in football.. there are plenty of midfielders bouncing around, but an 18 year old key forward like that is pretty much unprecedented I don't care what anyone says, to turn Scully's betrayal into getting Hogan, Viney and Toumpas in one go was an absolute masterstroke by those involved4 points

A number of Demonlanders have been in contact to ask if I know more about Roos. The answer is: I do not. What we know remains the same: Roos is seriously considering us, I don't believe a decision has been made, I don't expect a decision to be made until after our club finishes its administrative sweep out and replacements have been found. Saying that the commentary from Roos most importantly not ruling himself out of the gig, confirms to me that he is indeed seriously considering and that what I have heard about this since early in the season is accurate. For the record $1.80 is probably a fair bet. I put money on at $7 but the maximum bet was $20.4 points

64 games into Jack Watts' career he had the breakout game last week, at season 5 his worth is STILL being discussed... I don't know why anyone even bothers thinking about it for first year players... it is truly absurd IMO even a bloke like Trengove is in his 4th year and I am not comfortable forecasting anything about him, because you just don't know, nobody does4 points

Loved the way at half time he went to the senior players and told them to calm down and not celebrate a thing! Took control of the groups attitude. He is a tough customer with a lot of intent in his eyes at the moment. Col seems a gentle guy by nature but there is a huge competitive beast in there. He doesn't want his team pushed around anymore. Love it.4 points

Love the way Hogan gave one of the defender the f'off elbow in the ribs after he marked. Got a touch of the arrogant about him...3 points

Mitch Clark is back running ^^ Anyone who says he won't play, same as Egans etc. Complete and utter shite. Nothing like Egans at all. Just a matter of letting the foot settle without the screw holding the lisfranc in place before putting to much pressure on it.3 points

For those who didn't see the game and haven't got the time to watch the replay, this sums up the game in just a few seconds.3 points

I'm pretty confident that all of these 'things' that Roos says need to happen before he'd consider the job at MFC are on PJ's to-do-list.3 points

Healy supports Melbourne in the same way Kevin Rudd was a Gillard government supporter3 points

well my son-in-law is staying with me, in Australia on a medical placement from overseas, and when he'd read the Sunday Age lead article, he looked up AOD ( anti-obesity drug) 9604 on PubMed which hosts all research articles published. His take is that it is designed to act on (beta)adrenaline receptors and even increase their numbers in the body so that a given amount of adrenaline released may have more effect than if the drug were not used. This might explain the reason for its use in the sporting context There is more and if there is interest I will put it onsite3 points

Heard what? Hawthorn won't be able to match it. Not sure if Franklin will be restricted or not, but even if he is, Hawthorn can only match it if it fits within their salary cap, which the offer from GWS won't.3 points

He talked us up. Said we have a nice forward line and a back line, with very good KPP's at both ends. Just needed to sort the midfield. He said we have the talent and a good base to work from.3 points

Firstly comparing Garland to Maxwell is an insult to Garland. Maxwell cannot man up and when he HAS to he gets towelled up big time. U can also throw Harry Obrien in there to. He is only half good when he is the lose defender but allot of other players can play this role. He is so overrated its not funny.3 points

Reading Robinsons piece in the Hun today he says Essendrug are gone. ASADA will make no exceptions. So how long must the rest of the competition have to play against Drug Cheats??3 points

Thought it deserved its own thread that Paul roos has been backed in from $6 last week to $1.80 this morning.... Looks like a done deal2 points
-
Well it is Demonland,......Roos for coach, Kennett for President, 70 y.o Northey for the Board, seems realistic, depends on how much drink you have consumed I suppose.2 points

This. They will be monitoring the irritation he gets with increasing weight bearing, and given that this season is effectively about next year, erring heavily on the side of caution. The last thing they want is a chronic irritation. In respect to the stability of the Lisfranc repair, that's not in question. It's about not getting into an ongoing synovitis, which is an inflammatory irritation of the joint and surrounding capsule.2 points

Its funny BB59, I've always assumed the AFL would enforce the full force of whatever ASADA recommend, but the longer this drags on the more I think the AFL believe they are above the law (in this case WADA). I notice the AIS have withdrawn their support to the AFL academy, supposedly to increase funding for Olympic sports. I might be jumping at shadows but I’d expect that sort of thing to happen if the AFL didn’t adhere to the ASADA code too? I would respect the AFL as a code and organisation if they had stood down Jab Watson after his admission, and if they punish the Essendon Football Club to the appropriate level, but the eerie silence is making a mockery of the black and white nature of ASADA and WADA’s code.2 points

And why would buddy go to GWS if hawthorn can match the offer? He'd stay at hawthorn if that were the case... He will get some extra from the AFL, but the contract itself would have to be much bigger for him to leave I would think...2 points

I just hope that if they strip Jobe of his Brownlow medal that it is televised, so we can see his heart break, and revel in the exact moment thousands of Essendrug supporters will no doubt be mourning. It will be sweet.2 points

Swoopers years at the club were easily my favourite as a supporter. Aside from the success he brought to the club his Melbourne side played a wonderful mix of tough, skilful football. It was a mostly beautiful era. All of us who were around at that time would remember it fondly However, as a director Northey would need to offer substantial skills to the board and not just be a feel good appointment2 points

Not sure if this made sense PJ! I was meaning that Nik Nat's selection last year would challenge any AA/Maxwell decision.2 points

Did ok against Hawthorn. Byrnes and Rodan, and by extension Neeld, have been catapulted into the Realm of Reasons our List Is Terrible and it isn't fair at all. The draft, trades and FA allows a certain amount of potential or actual A or B grade players to come onto your list. Nat Draft top 50 picks, PSD top 3 picks, about 4 or 5 FAs, and a few trades can get those players. Once you get past that point you are looking at what you can do make your list better for that next year. We went older with the selections after that: Terlich, Matt Jones, Dawes, Rodan, Byrnes, Pedersen, Clisby and Gillies were targetted for that reason with the outlay being: ND Picks 20, 45, 70, 88, RD Pick 19, Martin and Gysberts. IMO: Dawes is worth the outlay of 20 and 45. Jones was worth Martin. Terlich was worth Pick 70. Rodan and Byrnes were worth the spot on the list ahead of whatever speculative player that was out there. Clisby was worth RD Pick 19. I don't know whether Pedersen was worth Gysberts - frankly neither look like making much of an impact on the AFL. Gillies was not worth the outlay of an early PSD pick (which is what we gave up when we signed him as a DFA). Our list is thin for mids because of decisions made in the past.2 points

Sitting in amonsgt the Cheer Squad saturday night (first time i've done that since i was about 8 years old - i'm 34 now!) there was a bit of a "Tooooooooummpas" sound going around when he got the ball...seems it's the 2013 "Ooooooooooooooze"2 points

Perhaps, but I think that Professor Diesel is putting forward the mathematical theorem that "Winning is equal to, not less than, or greater than, winning," in short "Winning = Winning." Hard to disagree with someone screaming the bloody obvious. And yet here we are...2 points
-
Agreed. I've gotten to the point where if I see him involved, I have complete confidence that he'll get it done, be it win a contest or make good use of the ball.2 points

If he played for Geelong he would be talked about as the best medium defender in the comp, certain All Australian and will go very close to winning our Bnf, only jones would compete with him.2 points

Loving everything he does lately. That moment where he took a mark running back with the flight and then knocked Griffen flat was absolutely brilliant, definitely one of those hell yeah fist pumping moments. From watching the replay, he's starting to get some recognition from the commentators as well. Lot to like about Col.2 points
