"Now the whole Pavlich thing is too much. We won't even have first pick in the PSD. Where has the reality gone?"

1st pick is Judd. We get Pavlich.

"the rich, successful, powerful environment of Windy Hill."

which wasn't there until after Sheedy helped develop it.

but its all dreaming anyway,

don't you know about the secret clause in Wallace's contract that if Sheedy becomes available Wallace gets sacked.

They are just waiting until its mathematically impossible for them to make 15th and then they will announce it.

I remember reading in the Age a while back about Sheedy's love of the Norm Smith Demons and how they influenced Sheedy as a player and a coach. He used to go and watch them play in the late 50's.

Yes Sheedy used to sell lollies at the 'G and was a regular watcher of the Demons in the '50's with his brother (who was a Collingwood fan). Also, there has been much comment on this thread about Sheedy interfering with recruiting. This is a myth. Essendon have had two very good recruiting men in Sheedy's time in Noel Judkins and more recently Adrian Dodoro. Sheeds had a say, but it was Judkins call on players like Long and Wanganeen for instance.

As I have said elsewhere here, he is exactly what we need.

G'day Fellow Demons Supporters!

I actually heard on tonight's news that Tom Hafey thinks Kevin Sheedy would be a good choice at the Demons? :o But thats only if Richmond don't sack Terry Wallace before the end of the year!

Personally, I think the Demons will choose a younger bloke as our coach. But because next year will be the Demons 150th year we may want to go for a good quality and well-respected coach that would attract a lot of attention to the club.

Do accountants opinions count? :)

Talk about stereotyping!

Mike Fitzpatrick's an economist, so i guess he know's nothing either!

If I told you my accountants surname you'd pretty quickly retract the comment.

Gabriel Szondy?

Personally I would 100% welcome Kevin Sheedy at the MFC in any capacity. That may sound irrational but in the context of a club which needs to redefine itself in an aniversary year then he is definitely worth considering if not as a senior coach then as a mentor or Football Dept Manager.

Get Him!

I am not sure which way melbourne will sway when they look at a young coach or a more experienced coach. However i wouldnt be suprised if they went for sheedy, and used the whole "Team Melbourne" (which comprises of melbourne storm, melbourne tigers, and the new melbourne netball team next year) as a bit of a draw card to lure him. Because what better face could you have to promote "Team Melbourne" than Kevin Sheedy?

Thats just a thought. Having said that, i would like his experience at the club. IMO with a couple of additions eg tall ruckman and another KPP and a clean out of a few of the older ones, our list is pretty good to make an assault on the flag in the next few years. Beings though we have always stumbled late in finals, we need that extra experience of someone who has been there before to get us over the line. I really don't think we need a complete re-build of the team. Fresh ideas to players like green, johnstone, bruce etc are just what they need to get them going.

I have faith that melbourne will choose the right person for the job, whether it's Sheedy or someone else.

Walls hates Sheeds n he heads our selection commitee.

or does Walls just hate Essendon rather then Sheeds?.

Either way, i wouldn't mind having Sheeds take the reigns.

He is a Marketing machine n PG should know how to exploit it considering what he does for a job.

Funny you should mention that.

Their spat related to Walls' crticism of Sheedy that he had had soft ride in terms of his coaching career being at a stable and financial club and lacked the experience of having to coach at a bottom of the ladder struggler such as Walls did at Brisbane.

In the context of stuffing it right back up Wallsy the MFC would provide a perfect fit for Sheeds?

The smiley face there actually means something, god people get touchy on this board unless you spell everything out in black and white.

Would welcome him with open arms.

It'd be the best move we've pulled off in more than 40 years.

Great for marketing, great for the players to have a tough coach with a great record to play under, and whoever we bring in as assistants would be lined up to replace Sheedy in a few years.

Perfect fit, and in reality it's Sheeds only option if he wants to coach again.

Carlton take too long, Freo are a basket case and Richmond won't come up for at least another twelve months, maybe two years if Wallace sees out his contract.

Some one on SEN today bought up the fact that Sheedy said "there is something on the landscape" in reference to Paul "Gardner"

I laughed for its a massive long shot, but i then thought , well it could be, it is sheedy we are talking about and it wouldn't surprise me if it was.

Well he is a very cryptic person.

Interesting and astute post WC. Definitely food for thought. I for one hadn't seriously considerd Sheedy but the landscape's changed significantly in the last week.

My thought is that Sheedy is such a big personality and recognised as a legend of the game that he could make some hard moves, disturb some 'comfortable' players and really change the culture. A little like the Return of Barassi in the 80's set up a renewal of vigor.

I'd predict a 3 year job to kick in a few walls, shift the attitude and groom a successor (I still think Viney eventually) and be remembered as a Richmond champion player, the greatest Essendon coach, and the man who restored the glory of the original football club after almost half a century of faltering.

I think the timeline would suit Sheedy's retirement plans, I think the goal would be 'worthy' of Sheedy's ambition, and I think it really could revitalise the club's image - you can't ignore or not care about the club Kevin Sheedy coaches...

Totally agree mate, very good comments.

I feel that Sheedy can coach us for a few years and recover us back and have a platform to launch from and then the one who takes over will not have failure to build on, he will have the success foundation laid

My accountant, a huge long-term Bomber member, berates me each year at tax time as says Sheedy was the underachiever of all time who plays favourites constantly and watsed the last 7 seasons at Essendon, constantly playing others out of position.

Bombers supporters have shown, over time, they have no idea about football. 27 years, 4 flags. That's one flag every 6.75 years. Hell, at 50 years without a flag i'd take that. Essendon people don't realise that before Sheedy they hadn't won a flag since 1965 (20 years) and prior to that 1950. So prior to K Sheedy they had won 1 flag in 35 years. They don't know anything BUT Kevin Sheedy success - they simply expect too much.

They are morons, pure and simple. I hope they experience 50 years of PS drought. Getting rid of Sheedy - pathetic - although a blessing if Melbourne get him.

I know it should be merged with the other sheedy thread, but forget the other candidates, this guy is our man!! We have the list, we just need the specialist coach!

I'd love to have Sheedy!

It would also make for a very festive occasion, both he and the MFC can celebrate their 150th birthday's together

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
