  1. Dean Bailey discussed the managment of jack Watts with Dermot Brereton (IMO one of the most insightful opionators around) on SEN about a month ago. Most impressive debate on the game, and player management heard for ages. Bailey has it in spades - edevlopment wise. Other test will come late, but for now he's OK I reckon

    MCC

Further to Rhino's execllent coverage - the MCC funds the full MCG redevelopment, not taxpayers etc. and if your A**se points to the ground - your in! That's my idea of egalitarian. Secondly, the MCC memebers who DO attend MFC games are as passionate and abusive lot as anywhere else in the ground. I waited 20 years and got admitted the year Barassi arrived back in '81. It seemed a good thing at the time.
  3. [quote name='Yze_Magic' date='May 26 2008, 06:30 PM' post='150080] As always, the problem is the MFC demographic, which is comprised primarily of rich bayside toffs who would rather be at Mt.Buller than be at the MCG.
  4. 35 metres out , last quarter and nearly kicked it out on thr full. Not acceptable at this level.
  5. fair point, except i didn't see them when i posted, and in any caae they are all about what he did and didn't say on the show. Who gives a rats. I'm about dignityin the twiligth of one's career. Then again, if i was on megabucks, maybe I'd stay till they tiurned out the lights. Let's not be precious about this.. We need re-building and if your not in the mix then move on.
  6. I had lunch with a die-hard demon member today (I am one as well). Topic: "did you see Robbo on It takes Two..." If it comes to this, then I would rather remember how he would take a speccie probaly once a match, but that's about it. Players need to recognise when their time is up. Some do, but most don't and it's really sad. Does the word dignity ring a bell when referenced to retirement. The future lies elsewhere, but unfortunately dollars speak louder. Dean Bailey - i'm relying on you to make the big calls soon.
  7. Cliches are easy , but life is not that simple when you have a poorly perfoming product to market. I have booked a Corp. Box through the club for my company (for the last 4 years) and when calling the club today to confirm arrangements, my contact , who did a fantatsic job of handing my enquiry and locking in the deal, didn't anwser the mobile, but was operating the switchboard when i finally made contac - Talk about multi-skilling. I, and I expect Paul Mc namee would want them out marketing. Like Dean Bailey rebuilding the team from scratch , these things WILL take time. You either hang in there, like I did in the 60's and 70's , or you don't . If its the latter, you weren't that rusted on anyway.
  8. Rivers is the best 'reader' of the play I have seen . Malthouse recently bemoaned that you needed to get 35 possessions a game and play midfield to win the Rising Star Award. What a [censored]. Rivers won it as a centre half back by his inate ability to control a backline at , what 19 years of age!
  9. Robbo...count yourself very very very lucky and show us something!
  10. Bode makes a good point about being inundated with media. People forget that there are around 1400, yes 1400, journalist/media whores accredited with the AFL. There aint that much to write/comment/film about so they need to get out there and create product. Without stories like Carey, MFC performance, Fevola, Didak, ben graham wearing a black armband when his dog died, etc, SEN would have to play Muzak all day. There are only 400 journalists who cover the political scene FCS!
  11. One of the great all-time posts RR! keep up the spirit.
  12. His decisons and skills against Hawthorn were slack at best and appalling at worst. Times up if it wasn't for the big $'s in final contract year, and should consider doing the right thing and avoid embarrassment all round Sadly not part of the future.
  13. Correction much appreciated Spirit. That's my view as well. I didnt appreciate the 11 year bit.
  14. For interest this is on the Web re: Karen Hayes. Seriously impressive "...Karen Hayes has extensive general management and strategic consulting experience in Australasia, Canada, the United States and many European countries, primarily in the financial services and information technology industries. From 1998 to 2006 Karen was the CEO of Planpower, a provider of project management and training services in Australia and one of 15 Business Units of the ASX300 Business Solutions Group, UXC. In October 2006 Karen was appointed to the role of Director Corporate Engagement and Human Capital with UXC Limited. Karen was a finalist in the 2004 Telstra Business Woman of the Year Awards and in January 2006 she was appointed to the Board of the Melbourne Football Club. Karen is a breast cancer..."
  15. Terrific post Jaded. This will show us a lot about DB's thought processes if he has had input into the group's composition.
  16. [quote name='Nasher' date='Jan 18 2008, 04:38 PM' post='124232] Good post demonscoast. I've gone from skeptical but accepting to totally disinterested. You could have everybody or nobody in the leadership group and it probably wouldn't make a lick of difference. I think we've all overreacted terribly here.
  17. Well spoke ML. The cost of having a decent sign on a V8 Supercar is $350,000 (I was told this was per race meeting, not per season, but find that hard to believe). Ditto, the value to the league of having serious signage exposure money coming in for free to air TV matches. TV marketing dollars are enormous and the AFL will ALWAYS bias TV games to the collingwoods of this world. Those without that drawing power must be compensated or lets just cut the arguments and go straight to a 6 team comp. That's the alternative.
  18. When Barassi joined in 1981 he interviewed all players and asked each where they rated their football in importance with other things. Monday answered that in order of priority was 1. girlfriend 2. His studies (he was doing an engineering degree at the time - the source of my story. He relayed it to a friend of mine in his classes) 3. MFC Yep, wrong answer. After that he was a goner in Barassi's eyes.
  19. Well argued DD. Old Xav. seems to conveniently forget/omit two points. 1. If all the CFC mythology was correct, how did THEY become insolvent in the early 80's through the efforts of the 'New Magpies", and indeed, if being so well organised, why did the new magpies even come into existence. Its all cyclical, (see Carlton FC) 2. Eddies unfortunate performance in running Channel 9 into the ground to the extent that they have lost the annual ratings competition this year for the first time in nigh on 30 years, and with the major owner selling out, speaks volumes for his 'buisness nous' .... not!. I too prefer PG from that angle, but recognise eddies amazing spruiking abilities.
  20. Ridiculously emotive post - but I agree with every word. he was a key component of the engine room in the '98 onwards renaissance. Can offer a huge amount to the new regime. Well done to the Board for making this call. Anyone who marries a ballerina has to have something going for him too - more good off-season news. Thanks for the post.
  21. Compulsory reading. We have 'Rehab and Sports Science', and a 'Wellness ' Managers? This smells of "..leavinbg no stone unturned'. I'm tipping this guy has a Plan B as well. Go dees.
